A quick visit to Blizzard.com reveals a cryptic new splash screen. For those unfamiliar with Blizzard, this generally means they’re on the verge of announcing something in the coming days. Anywhere you go someone has a different opinion or justification about what it means. Some have confirmed the presence of Frostmourne’s runes, which would mean that the news is about the Warcraft universe. Others have convinced themselves beyond all reason that this is somehow related to Diablo III.

It’s very likely that this is the lead-up to a release date announcement for the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King. You never really know with Blizzard, though. They might have something completely out of left field. Keep your eyes on Blizzard.com, as the splash screen seems to be changing as time wears on.

Personally, I’d love to see a new property out of Blizzard. The Diablo universe is basically over and done with, Starcraft II is already announced and the Warcraft universe is well explored with their cash cow MMO. Let’s see something fresh, Blizzard. Please?
