In a recent issue of Famitsu, a new edition (no, not a remake) to the Suikoden series was announced with scans of the game. The title is Suikoden Tierkreis and will be featured on the Nintendo DS. Konami has stated that they are about 50% done with the game’s process.
The main hero’s name is unconfirmed as of right now, but he is from a small village called Sidro. Voice acting will be enabled, but like the previous Suikoden games with voice acting, it is unsure if the hero will say anything other than a few grunts here and there. The game’s story is said that it will begin at the final battle or the end of the game, but not much else has been really confirmed about this. New to the series, a race has appeared which seems to resemble a porpoise. Also, the scans include many pictures for the other characters in the game, and it will continue the tradition with the 108 stars to obtain.
Characters mentioned thus far:
- Hero (name?)
- Jail
- Marika
- Ryu
- Dirk
- Yula
- Misrach
- Asuado
- Belfrayd
- Robert
Regarding the use of the DS screens, the top will include character status information in battle, and the bottom will use the touch screen to its advantage by letting the gamer give it commands during battle. Also, up to four players are used in a battle, and something that is easily recognized is the MP status of a character. This seems to be replacing the traditional style by how many times you can use a rune. More information on this will be released to confirm more about the battle system. Here are two screens from the scans:
