Hey folks. I came across the Lite Surfing idea from another board and thought it would be a good idea for us to have it since some of us are still using Dial-up from home and/or slow Internet connections from our workplace. How does it work? Following is the question & answer from the profile page that I captured:-
Question:-
For anyone who wishes to not see any signatures and avatars while browsing [insert board name here]. This helps lowband users surf [insert board name here] with faster loading times.
Choice of answer (choose one only as it was in radio button):-
- Yes
- No
- Show Avatars Only
So what do you folks think?
Good idea eh? ^^
Immediate benefit for us all:-
- No more gigantic size image from Pafywhatever's signature with this idea implemented

There are options for that in your User CP.
On the side under 'Settings and Options', go to 'Edit Options', and then you need to scroll down to 'Thread Display Options'. You should find the checkboxes for avatars, sigs, and images. You can also choose between a few different thread layouts that quicken things up a bit as well.
Hope that helps you out.

You're a true hero Jarrid. I found it. Sorry folks I did not realized about this earlier ya. Is under Visible Post Elements. Just disabled the signature thingy. Damn, Joe's random pix are just too large! Guess, someone from the admin can close this thread now.

No problem. Dial-up is a bitch. Hopefully, by the end of the year, I will no longer have it.

I would use this if I had dial-up: http://finch.ploogy.net/
Too bad you can't login to anything with it.

Why share one strategy only when you can share six? Here you go folks...
Source/ full story: 6 ways to Access Websites Faster In Slow Internet Connection (http://www.techno360.in/6-ways-to-access-websites-faster-in-slow-internet-connection/)
1. Use Skweezer
Skweezer is a service that compresses and reformats Web content being downloaded to a device, so that it loads faster, looks better.
Just point out your web browser to http://www.skweezer.net and then type the URL you want to Skweeze and hit enter. You can also create bookmark in firefox to automatically skweeze web pages by typing skweeze http://www.your-url-here.com
2. LoBand
Which lets you to access the websites fast even in slow speed internet connection. Even more you can have the all original text minus formatting, colors and images. In order to use this facility you just enter the URL or web address of the sites which you want to access quick. After hitting the ?GO? button you will have the ?text only? mode quickly. Incase something fails to load you can just click on your ?original? button to view the original link.

3. Google Transcoder
Google Transcoder was built as a search engine for cell phones, but it also can help reduce the complexity and visual clutter on Web pages. You can use google transcoder to simplify webpages to make them load faster.
Visit http://www.google.com/m
or
Google Mobilizer
You can have the same features which are available in LoBand with an additional option to display the images. Moreover you can select the ?No images? option to surf without the images.
Visit :http://www.google.com/gwt/n
4. Mowser
You can have the webpages in a compact and cute format. The webpage?s images will be shown in a scaled down format.
visit:http://mowser.com/
5. Finch
Nothing special in this beyond Loband and Google Mobilizer. Finch takes out the CSS, images, Flash, metadata and iframes. With this you can have the texts in a clean format.
visit: http://finch.ploogy.net/
6. Opera Mini on PC
All the above are web based services to view the webpages with little format while this Opera Mini is downloadable to surf the internet easily even in slow connection.
According to our knowledge Google Mobilzer and Mowser are the best to view the webpages faster as they are showing the images in scaled format. If you feel free to install any software just go to Opera Mini and Firefox users may use ?No Script? addon to access the same function.

Cool. Coincidentally, the neighbor's wireless internet I'd been using seems to be down, so I've been using DSL, which feels like dial-up. I'm getting a max download speed of about 80 KB/s d/l, 15 KB/s u/l; as opposed to roughly 700 KB/s d/l, 150 KB/s u/l.
I was actually just looking for some user css out there I could use with Opera to emulate some of those websites' styles, but no luck. Textonly.css isn't that bad though, especially for media-heavy blogs. I wish I could find a good one that works like Finch.

Write one Moogle! Write it and they will come!! Or contact the guy who made Finch and see how easy it'd be to modify...

Well, I'm not very good at any kind of coding, even something relatively simple like css, so I don't think I'll be tackling that on my own.
I have been meaning to look into web design more, though. Something I hadn't really been thinking a lot about lately, but why not?
