From what I've played I'll have to say FFX had the best cast, because the reason why they are a team actually works, it's not something like "Hey I've just met you, now we will play for ever and ever and ever". Also in the game every single main character had enough of a background to write a book about, which made the game really exciting.

I like the FFX cast. Always have.

But in my opinion, the current winners are the cast of Tales of the Abyss. Wonderfully complex, all of them. And they're all amazingly developed.

If we're going with main characters only, I like Suikoden 2.

Damn, this is hard.

I think I am gonna go with Persona 3. I almost went with Xenogears but both Elly and Fei kinda sucked ass and I always wanted something bad to happen to Bart. Almost went with Shadow Hearts Covenant but remembered that Gepeto and Luccia were pretty much non existant once you got over their first appearances.

Persona 3 has the most balanced cast. They have sufficient well developed personalities and with the exception of the main character who is a SP, even Junpei has his charm, very little, but the whole thing about the redhead gave Junpei a much needed development kick.

I hate to go with Final Fantasy, but I loved the characters from both FFX and FFXII.

Not quite as good, but up there are Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, and Digital Devil Saga.

I loved all the characters in Tales of Symphonia. Although Collette got on my nerves sometimes with her getting kidnapped and just her voice sometimes, but all in all a great cast of characters. I even liked some of the enemies, which is rare since I usually just want them dead.

FFVI & Chrono Trigger have the highest caliber list of characters.

I thought Lunar and Lunar 2 had great characters. CT also had good ones, I liked everyone a lot, FFX, and FFXII I liked everyone but Vaan for some reason.

I agree, Suikoden has some good "major" characters, but it's always hard to flesh out 108 characters in one game.

Unfortunately :( But they do an okay job of it. At least they tend to do well with the main characters, Riou, Jowy, Nanami, Luca. Too bad a lot of the cool background came from sources outside of the game.

Persona 3 is a very good choice because the game actually centers most of the viewer's attention into the character's lives and personalities.

Yeah how do we feel about characters that become invisible and irrelevant to the story as it progresses?

I was incredibly pissed off when I play SO3 and the two characters I picked (Albel and Nel) were just standing there and no one gave attention to them at all.

I would have to say FFVI. the cast was legendary. Locke is probably my favorite character of all time but on top of that you have Shadow, Sabin, Edgar, Celes, Terra, hell I loved all of them even Relm, and Mog and Umaru, and Gogo....shit I loved them all and they all deserve mad Respect!

Also FFIV was another good cast of characters as well as FFVII excluding Cait Sith.

I guess I'd have to say , SO 2. Excluding Chisato and Noel, every other character has a background story back at expel. Grandia 1 had interesting and awesome characters. The Lunar games kept each character involved with one another. Finally, Valkyrie Profile 1 for taking their time in having a variety of characters having a background story before or after their deaths until Lenneth decides whether to take them or not. The one thing VP2 lacked wholeheartedly..
