What is your personal favorite console ever? Do you have a fondness for the 16 bit era? 128 bit? What is it?

I know for myself I have a particular fondness for the Dreamcast. There was so many great games and it has a wonderful variety of games even for such a small library. NBA 2K1, Skies of Arcadia, Grandia II, Shenmue, Street Fighter III: Third Strike, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Soul Calibur, Test Drive Le Mans and the list goes on.

My second would probably be the Genesis. I've been playing that thing for ages it seems. I've got a collection of over 110 games and my goal is to get all the North American releases ever produced. Crazy I know, but I want to do it.

How about everyone else?

I don't know if I really have a favorite as such. I'm tempted to pick the TG-16 because I had one; unlike the vast majority of gamers. It makes me unique. Plus I have the CD attachment and with it games like Y's Book 1 & 2, Dungeon Explorer 2, and Dragon Slayer.

Then I'm tempted to cheat and name the PC. After all, no single platform has had as many games for me to play. I can play everything from a simulated version of Tennis for Two to the latest release in the Avernum series thus spanning 50 years of gaming.

For me it's the PS1. It had such a huge library, with tons of great platformers, RPGs, puzzle games, action titles...pretty much every genre was covered. It's actually quite remarkable how well the transition from 2D to 3D went in that era. (Not to say the PS1 didn't have lots of great 2D games, because, in fact, many of my favorite games are 2D PS1 games, like Castlevania:SotN, Klonoa, and Tomba).

I probably would have said SNES if I hadn't come into gaming pretty much at the end of it's run. Just about the only games I really played on it were Chrono Trigger, FFIII/VI, and Breath of Fire 1-2. So for me, I guess it would be both Playstation and Playstation 2, because those are the two consoles that really got me into gaming, and that I put the most time in on. The newer FF games, the Suikoden series, playing the CT remake, and so many more. The 360 is starting to come into play now that it has more RPGs, but I'm still not having as much fun with these games as I did the PSX-PS2 era of gaming.

right now the PS2 because it also plays PS1 games...but sense the new PS3 plays all of them as well, im sure when I get that next week my answer will quickly change. :p

Dreamcast. No other console has given me so many easy to get into addicting games like the great late chubby little white box.

Second probably the PS2, it truly has a great library and its a real champ sometimes. We are way into the current gen and there are still so many good stuff coming out. Its like that chick you keep on ****ing even after you have upgraded because she is so awesome and likes to slap you while cowgirling you.

It's really hard to choose. I'm torn between the Super NES and the PS2.

Both had an amazing library of games, and I've spent a good portion of my life playing dozens of those amazing games. Notable mentions include:

SNES
Super Mario World
Super Mario Kart
Super Mario RPG
Final Fantasy II
Final Fantasy III
Chrono Trigger
F-Zero
Mortal Kombat II
Street Fighter II Turbo

PS2
Tony Hawk's Underground
NHL '05
Red Faction
James Bond Nightfire
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy XII
Grandia II
Jak and Daxter
Grand Theft Auto III
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Most of my favorite games I've played are on the PS2 console. I really like other consoles like the Wii, SNES, etc., but I wouldn't say that they are my favorite. Other than the PS2, the only other one I might mention is the Sega Genesis.

I'm going to deviate a bit here and throw out mention to the Nintendo 64. While I loved the SNES as much as most people, I never got really into gaming until the N64 hit. It was like one of those moments you waited your entire life for. The N64 more or less saw the breakout of the party game, and thusly I have far more memories and certainly more hours of gameplay on that console than any other. The console didn't have the broadest library of games out there, but pound for pound could still hang with any. Nintendo seemed to make an infallible leap into the third dimension with Mario and Zelda, and the golden age of Rareware entertainment was unparalleled in sheer fun factor. GoldenEye 007 anyone?

Right now my favourite would have to be the PSP. I just love FF7: Crisis Core so much. The summons are so beautiful!

My favourite of all time would probably be the SNES. Too many fond memories!

I thought that was chemically impossible, figuring how much the psp sucks ass besides 5 or so games that havent been ported to the ps2.

Ohh believe me is worth more than that. I got 15 DVDs of games. Just need to load them into the Micro SD memory and voila!

I have always had a very hard time liking the N64 myself. I never found interest in the 3D approach of Mario and Zelda for some reason, despite loving basically all the games that led up to their N64 appearances. There are some really good games on the N64, but it feels like they are few and far between at times. I know for myself, my personal collection doesn't even amount to 10 games. The N64 has always been a tough sell.

Raidou you are a good guy, but it sucks that you steal games.

No one insane uses UMD over here coz they are way too expensive. Not only that, even the retailers do no sell them. If one is interested to buy a particular title, they would need to pay through their nose. Lodis, is right, you're wierd. I don't steal it, it comes with the whole package, I need to buy it.

My favorite probably has to be the PlayStation. That is the one I played the most. Still do enjoy playing the games.

Certainly, I must be weird for actually BUYING all my games. Heaven forbid that I help stir the video game economy so that more games can continue to be made in the future. I have to import my games even, so it's not like I even have an advantage of access to games like other people do and I pay more for shipping and the like.

Around 70 or so percent of my N64 library is composed by the same games I got for the console when it was given to me as a gift.

One of the many regrets I have is selling my OoT cart. I dont even know why i sold it, I guess I really needed the money or something.

N64 had some really great games, I remember it had one of the best games that regrettably didnt hit hard, Blast Corps. Thats a game it wouldnt hurt to have again. With Banjo Kazooie showing up again, I hope someday we will have a new Blast Corps.

Sushi_b

Blast corps was actually pretty fun now that I think about it. I wonder if Rare would consider bringing the series back to life. It's too bad it could come back on the Wii because it could be a really good fit on there and having 4 players blasting away swinging wildly could be pretty fun.

Was referring to the N64 comment actually. May all pirates sulk their heads in hell. Grumble grumble.

I've always been a Nintendo fan girl. While my brother was playing his Sega systems, I was playing with my oldest brother's SNES (Street Figher II for the win?)... I grew up loving Nintendo, but able to appreciate the other systems. The only non-Nintendo system I own is a PS1 (and even for that I've got three games!).

While I absolutely adore my Wii, I don't know that I'd say it's my "by far" favorite console. It's close, but I think my Nintendo 64 beats it out. Maybe it's the nostalgia involved... My good friends and I, in high school, would play the N64 every weekend, for hours upon hours. Mario Party (1, 2, 3), Mario Kart 64, Super Smash Brothers, F-Zero, Golden Eye, Mario Golf... It really was an awesome multiplayer console. Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time was fun, Majora's Mask blows me away (still one of my favorite games of all time).

I never had a Gamecube, because after I graduated High School I fell out of gaming for a little while. I did get a chance to play Wind Waker when I borrowed my brother's Gamecube, and a few other games (Eternal Darkness, and others but that's the only other game I feel is really worth mentioning). The Gamecube didn't grab me much, but Nintendo had my attention again when the Wii came out.

I got my Wii a year ago or so (I just remember it was last summer), and I've been utterly in love with it...but other than Wario Ware: Smooth Moves it doesn't really have a whole lot of awesome multiplayer games (Bust-A-Move Bash was a MAJOR let down!)...but the Wii has quite a few great single player games... I think as a whole, as of this moment, the N64 had better games available than the Wii... The Wii has the potential swarm of shit-tastic games (read: Cooking Mama? You serious? Fer reals?), and the N64 didn't have as much of that...

So long story short: Nintendo 64, barely beating out the Wii.

Now for more sad stuff that you need to know. PayPal is not allowed and not recognized over here. Credit cards from here are usually not accepted in Amazon, eBay, etc.

I suck for not noticing that Lodis. I know you better then that. Sorry :D

Raido, there must be other outlets that you can get your games from then just those sources. Can't you direct pay from your bank account? I can't really say much against you I suppose, since I think just about every country outside of Japan (in Asia) has lots of game piracy going on.

I suppose the main reason that the N64 didn't have as much crap as the Wii was because they had basically NO 3rd party support.

I know some people really love that system but I just can't find much reason to love it myself. To each their own. I know this much simply because I love the Saturn and just about everyone hates that system.

Online debit you mean? No thanks. The online banking infrastruture over hee is not of a security standard that a sane person can trust. Renting for games is also not an option because the game vendors don't do that over here.

I'm going to have to go with the SNES. It had some of the greatest RPGs of its time, as well as an assortment of other decent to great games.
