Just curious to know if there are any wine drinkers here and what they like to drink. You can suggest any kind of wine that you like and why.
It would be helpful if you can mention as much as possible about the wine so that other posters can get a better idea of what it looks, smells and tastes like.
I know that for myself I'm more into sweeter wines. I like Blush (rose) wine a lot. I like that is has the feel of both a white wine, but hints of red in it as well. I'll drink red or white, as I really have no preference of one over the other.
When I drink red though, I prefer to have a Shiraz or a Merlot. I mostly drink wine from the southern hemisphere for the most part but I would like to try Canadian Ice wine some day as well.
Who else drinks wine and can suggest a label?

If you like sweet wines, you might want to try out a riesling. It's a dessert wine, and I find it too sweet..but you might like it.
Alot of German wines are really sweet as well, you so might take a look at those.

I had bottled wine once. That stuff messes you up!
I love a good Merlot or White Zin, myself. I'm also fond of Pinot Noir.
However, I love a good sweet Sangria more than anything.

I don't know if I just never gave it a decent shot or what, but I've never really enjoyed wine. Is it an acquired taste or do some people just take to it while others don't?

Well there's zillions of types of wine. Some are fruity, some sweet, some dry.
Basically I recommend you just try out a bunch of different kinds and pick out parts of each you like. Then go for wines that have those characteristics.

I drink wine, sometimes. I mostly enjoy red wines, like Roamnian, Spanish, and Italian wines.
El Gato Negro, Vampire, and Red Biciclette are all good.

I've never liked wine either. Maybe I just never had good wine, but it always just tasted like rotten grapes to me.

Another thing to realize about wine is that unlike many boozes, price != quality.
That makes it really easy for almost anyone to experience excellent wine for an average price of around $12-15

You mean that two dollar bottle of Boone's Farm was never supposed to be good?!

Ha!
Well that's malt liquor anyway...but...blech.

Very true....You can get a bottle of Beringer White Zin around here for $7 and a bigger bottle for $15....
....or a single glass of it at TGI Friday's for $4.
I get a bottle of White Zin Beringer and I'm good to go for a few hours. I'm gonna use it to make an AMAZING Sangria for the party I'm throwing in August.

Sangria is good stuff. Basically just garbage mix of anything you can find, but it always ends up pretty good.

I've never had sangria, I'd like to try it some time. I have had PJ, which is just a mishmash of liquors, Sprite, fruit punch and fruit.

Probably if I ran in circles that appreciated wine, I'd be inclined to taste a bunch and figure out if there's anything that appeals to me. But otherwise I probably would never go out of my way to buy stuff just to taste it. Really the only exposure I've had to wine has been dinner parties with relatives, and nasty communal church wine.
It's one of those things that I do want to like or understand just as a foil to the flavors in food, because there's a depth of flavors there. Dunno about just drinking a glass of it.

I absolutely love wine. I can not remember the names of all of the ones I have tried, however. Smoking Lagoon is one of the ones I can think of that I really enjoyed.

Cabernet Savignon isn't bad, but it's a fairly bitter red wine. Similar to Merlot.
I'm a big wine person. My wine of choice is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Shaw_wine. I mean i do appriciate good wine but i'm a college student on a budget so I go for the $2 stuff. Plus it really is yummy. I prefer red over white but I tend to spill red wine a lot of white is a safe option.

Yeah, I will go with a cheaper wine most of the time, but not so cheap in a sense it is going to taste like shit. Most of the wine I get comes from California. However, whenever I can find a good buy, I will go with something different. Sebeka from South Africa(?) came last year to my favorite place to go which is called the Wine Rack. It was alright. I did enjoy Red Bicyclette from France quite a bit. I have really been wanting to buy a bottle of Marilyn Monroe just because of the look of the bottle.

I never drink... wine.
I am not that big in wine. Back when I was in high school and college I did drink it and always had any type of Boone's wine in my fridge (Blackberry for the ****ing win!) and also i would enjoy a nice cabernet suavignon or chardonnay depending on the meal.
Preferred brand was Concha y Toro.

I am actually thinking about making my own wine after my grandfather's muscadines are ripe. I absolutely love muscadine wine. Mmm.

My grandma used to make muscadine wine. I always called them "muskey dimes". I was little though, so no one let me try it. :(

I love wine, but not in a dignified sense. Red wine is delightful, and I like all kinds. I have yet to develop a preference or anything. I like bitter and sweet wines. And a medium-rare steak with red wine is heavenly.

Well, this is odd. My friend and co worker just told me about this wine party going on tomorrow at this chick's boyfriend's house. Its gonna be filled with foreign chicks and they are gonna be getting drunk, this is the perfect opportunity for two immoral young lawyers.

Most people have been around here so long, there aren't really a lot of kids left right now anyway. I've noticed even most of the newbies are college age.

I split a bottle with a friend a while back because it was the most alcohol per pound on the menu... probably doesn't count though.

I don't like wine that much. My father makes his own and I'll put ginger ale in the white to cushion my tastebuds if I'm visiting. Mixed drinks are more my cup of tea.

I drank some wine at work today. We kept it cold by throwing ice into the box (which had bottles in it... not a bag of wine). It was delicious.

I'm a little surprised at the lack of wine lovers at our fair forums. I thought there would have been a number of more users. I guess more people enjoy beer or spirits. Nothing wrong with that.
I think wine can be an aquired taste, much the same for beer or anything else. Wine typically goes best with food to bring out the flavours of both. I still feel that wine can be great served alone as well. For those interested in getting into wine, it might be best to go to a wine expo or a tasting event of sorts. This will give you the chance to taste a variety of different types of wine without having to spend hundreds of dollars choosing what you enjoy the most. That or perhaps friends can also be of help. Just want to get more people drinking wine here. :)

Although if I had to choose between Boone's and Maddog, I think I'd take Boone's.
I think I'd just be sober that night...

They sell them at gas stations here too, I dont see your point. I think its a simple fact that Boones's is a cheap fruty wine choice, that kicks ass.
Jarrid
06-22-2008, 04:33 AM
They do not have them here. However, all of the gas stations here except for Exxon are almost impossible to walk through due to the amount of cases of beer down every single isle. Good thing I am tall, or I would get lost.
I've actually been drinking wine this whole last week I have been down in boston. so I really do love wine, plus it shows I have class while everyone else is drinking beer and im getting royally ****ed up off of $15 glasses of wine. Mmm I love wine!

I can't wait until I'm in London so I can take wine connoisseur classes. I really never know what to try.
My wine experience has largely been limited to what my parents have given me and now, in Iceland, whatever is cheapest at the Vinbud. Generally boxed red wine that stains all of our mouths.
I could only imagine. yeah the wine in North End is very good, but I would love some real Italian wine freshly imported from Italy.

I have a fondness for port wine. There's a warmth to it that I appreciate and it makes a nice after diner wine. Then there's a winery in Ontario called Rush Creek Wines that specializes in fruit wines. They make a strawberry and chocolate wine called Decadence that's really nice. They ship within Canada.

Sounds quite tasty, Priest.
I might go by my favorite store today and see what kind of specials they are having on wine this week. Hopefully, I can find something worthwhile. If I cannot, I will probably try and find a nice wine from France.

I ran out of Peach Schnapps (the 90 proof kind wooeee), going to have to get more soon. It's not wine, but I'm not cultured enough to like wine I suppose.

My roommate and I split a bottle of shiraz at dinner. I'm not a huge red wine fan but that's all I've had lately, and shiraz is certainly my favorite red wine.

You should stick mostly to the stuff coming from South Africa or Australia then. They have some of the best tasting Shiraz IMO. It's my personal favorite red wine as well. Also, since you like a sweeter wine, Chile and Argentina make wonderful wine as well.
For Shiraz, a nice bottle is Jacob's Creek: Grenache Shiraz, which is typically at an average price of 15-20 dollars American.
Argentina: anything from Mendoza should be pretty good, but a usually a little big higher in price.
Maybe it will be nice after the Shark dish that is famous in Iceland (can't think of the name). Just to wash it down. :)
