Has anyone ever gone to this show or shows like it? If you could go would you?
It seems like it could be an interesting show to check out. Some of their selection is really great, of course some of it isn't. Overall it seems like VGL travels around a lot and has been to many countries. If I had the chance I'd check it out.
Also, if you could arrange an orchestrated show of your own, what soundtracks or songs would you include in your show?
My show would have a very 8 bit focus with some 16 bit soundtracks and more modern stuff. I would likely include tracks from:
Super Mario Bros. 3 and World
Sonic the Hedgehog
Chrono Trigger
Streets of Rage series
Double Dragon 1 and 2
Shining Force 2
Panzer Dragoon Series
Dragon Quest theme song and overworld (in particular)
Xenogears
Skies of Arcadia
Phantasty Star IV
Bayou Billy
Raiden (Stage 1)
Sunset Riders
TMNT IV: Turtles in Time
Others just aren't coming to mind at the moment.

That's all Phak? It would be a pretty short show I gather... :p
I forgot to add Castlevania series, Contra, Grandia series, Final Fight, Zelda, Ninja Gaiden, Outrun, Lunar and Megaman just came to me.

I was planning on going awhile back, but then they cancelled most shows around the country. Haven't really paid attention to the event since.
My picks for games would be:
Castlevania (any)
Sonic (any)
Klonoa (any)
Bionic Commando
Gradius (any)
Earthbound/Mother
Suikoden (any)
Wild Arms
Xenogears
Final Fantasy Tactics
Zanac
Cyrus the virus

I've never been, but I would definitely consider going with a particular group of nerdy friends. But I'd really only consider it if the price was reasonable, as clips are readily available on the internet.
I went to one last year and was sorely disappointed.
Tommy Tallarico (I think) spending half the show on gay-ass music from his shitty games, with about one song apiece on all the other (decent) stuff.

I've seen video game music performed live countless times and it's fun, but I don't think I would pay to see orchestras and choirs performing the music. I will watch it on YouTube, but to go and sit and listen to it for a couple of hours would probably get boring. I guess I could just bring my DS for all the songs I don't know or like though!
Once in a while I have to listen to loads of video game music on YouTube and VGMusic.com in order to help select new material for a local video game cover band, and some of the songs I would like to see covered just don't convert well into the drum, bass, and guitars type of band, so those would be my picks for my own orchestrated video game music event. Songs like: Magitek Research Facility from Final Fantasy 6, Boss Battle 2 from Chrono Trigger, or the Forest Maze song from Super Mario RPG.

I can understand that. I was thinking about it would be nice to hear good music but If I have to sit through a bunch of stuff I don't like ( and each song being more then 5 minutes) it would suck. I don't really care to hear One Winged Angel, when I could hear the Zelda theme instead.

So I finally checked out some of the videos on youtube to see what the show was like and for the most part I wasn't that impressed. There are some cool ideas with the screen and such but other then the arcade medley, the screen does nothing but show a bunch of random shots that don't really follow the music at all. The Zelda and MGS parts were good but the others were pretty crap. For the love of....can they honestly just make a good mix of Castlevania music without a bloody rock guitar?
Tetris
Super Mario Bros 2
Super Mario Bros 3
Final Fantasy IV
Chrono Cross
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Sonic the Hedgehog
Shadow of the Colossus (I've heard some sweet variations of the track where you're actually battling the giants)
Ace Attorney
Donkey Kong
Doom
Half-Life 2
Sonic Adventure 2
Final Fantasy XII
Digital Devil Saga
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (there are some sweet remixes in this game, but most of the original tracks are great too)
And a few more ambient-type selections I would like:
Tetris Attack
Resident Evil
Animal Crossing
Asheron's Call
Legacy of Kain: Soulreaver
Gears of War 2
Halo 3
Shin Megami-Tensei: Nocturne
Jak & Daxter
Diablo
Basically I tried to mostly choose games that I would like to hear more music from that don't get much attention. There are some games I threw in there (Tetris, SMB, FF, etc.) that already get a lot of love, but that said, I'd rather see shit from the more obscure games.
