View Full Version : Things that piss you off

As I was reading Dreamless' thread about things that are awesome and posting in it, I received a text message from a friend of mine.
This friend, I dont really know what she did with her address book and what goddamn service she is part of, but practically every day I receive an automated message from her either with a quote from a write/painter/philosopher/asshole or a stupid joke. Every day its the same thing, my phone beeps and if its a message from her (usually in duplicate) its the quote or the joke. And it pisses the **** out of me. Like really angers me.
So this made me think of doing the complete opposite of Dreamless' thread and discuss the little things that make your day go to shit.
As you would expect from seeing me post here, I am easily pissed off. It can be an average morning but I am one taxi/random car cutting me in traffic away from getting pissed off, one little paper jam from making me curse the gods, an email from banging on my desk.
One thing that always screws up my life are taxis here. I think it just might be that Neanderthals didndt actually go extinct and that they are actually living here as taxi drivers. These guys are complete waste of life. They drive like madmen, stop anywhere. Like you could be going at 60 or 80 km per hour behind a taxi, and the prick would just flat out stop and almost make you crash into him. I think that there should be a taxi serial killer, like Jack the Ripper did when he only targeted prostitutes.
So what pisses you off.

This is going to sound extremely petty, especially considering the field I work in, but I haaaattteee coming to work on a Monday and having an email with an urgent request. If something is due Monday at noon, email me when you get the ****ing inquisition, not when you first pass the socially acceptable "Workday" line.

People who don't tip, or tip poorly. I, like Swashy, also know this is petty considering the field I work in. But seriously, don't go out to eat if you don't have enough money to leave a respectable tip. And to all the people who say they are good tippers, unless you leave 18% at least, go eff yourself.

- When my mom sends me a text message that says "call me." Why not just initiate the call yourself?
- I use the locker room at the gym on a regular basis, and lots of the little girls just stare at you when you're getting dressed/undressed. IT'S WEIRD. I know it sounds dumb because they are really young and what have you, but still. I actually have buttloads of things that piss me off as far as the gym is concerned, but I guess my number one would be walkers on treadmills, followed closely by people who hog machines/weights by rotating with each other and teenage boys who like to eye**** themselves in the mirror.
I generally tip around 15% unless we're talkin' Applebee's. They get 10%.

Bad tippers/no tippers. I work at a place where $48 is the price of the average meal, so getting $0.00 as a tip from many people is a pain in the ass.
I also hate when stoves don't work and every prime rib made is rare-medium rare and my customers are picky. Understandable that they are, but we can't take custom orders for mass cooking. Medium-rare is fine.

- When my mom sends me a text message that says "call me." Why not just initiate the call yourself?I get so peeved when I get 1-3 word text messages. I pay 10 cents a text, so I get super peeved, and bite the heads off of anyone that sends me those.
As for the whole tipping thing, every Californian I know tips a minimum of 15%, I tip 25% if the service was better than expected (even if just slightly). If service was average or less, 15% is all I'll give.
One major thing I can think of right now that pisses me off...:
When my brother, who is a year and a half older than me, reverts to acting like a 13 year old boy. When we're having a discussion and I say something he doesn't like, he goes straight to my Mom and Dad and says "Milissa's being a bitch!" It reminds me of the episode of the Simpsons when Lisa goes to the museum and Bart comes home from the hospital and is told by Marge to apologize to Lisa. He goes to her door, and she's not in her room. He's apologizing, and she's "ignoring" him. Then Bart yells to Marge, "Mom, Lisa's making me feel bad!" Marge responds, "Stop it Lisa!" Yeah...it's like that.

California has the highest minimum wage for servers. New Jersey has the lowest at $2.13/hour. Not to mention the various people I need to tip out at the end of the night. Most people don;t think about this when they are leaving $5 on a $50 meal.

Most people don;t think about this when they are leaving $5 on a $50 meal.California is $8 straight across the board. Servers get $8. My friend Debby is a server at a Cracker Barrel in Phoenix, AZ, and she was going on about how she only makes a couple of dollars an hour and everything else is expected to be made up in tips. I was actually oddly shocked, just because I live in a state that has a flat minimum wage.
I've always tried to compensate for all of the people that may not tip at all. Actually, even when I was in Montreal and the people I stayed with suggested I get myself a pizza for dinner, I gave the delivery driver a 30% tip. Hello, it was covered in snow...EVERYWHERE! My friend's Mom was like "What!? Don't give them that much money!" I guess in California we're just different like that.

That's ****ing crazy insane. Your country has certain things it needs to regulate. I forgot how much minimum wage in certain places piss me off.
Montreal's minimum wage for servers just want up to $7.75 an hour. But my boss makes each customer pay like a dollar service fee, I think. I make a ridiculous amount per hour, sometimes, based on tips.

One thing I hate is when people take bad food out on the servers. I've seen a lot of my friends and family do this- just chew the poor server out because the food isn't prepared properly, when they had nothing to do with making the food. And I always try to leave a decent tip, as long as the service is good. Now if my drink glass goes empty for too long, and the place isn't busy, then yeah, that's gonna take away a bit.
I hate the way Gamestop seems to just push the hell out of pre-orders these days. The last time I was in there, the guy started pushing Gears of War 3 on me, saying how " oh it's going to sell out very fast, only so many will be shipped, better get in on it now yadda yadda yadda" and I get home to find that it doesn't come out til like November. ( I didn't pre-order it btw) He also tried to push DMC4 and MGS4 on me.
I also hate the way just about everything you buy from Gamestop now is opened, even new stuff. It's enough to make me buy a lot more games at Wal Mart and Blockbuster these days. ( doesn't hurt when Wal Mart gives them away, teehee like today teehee!)
I hate when I get a library book and people have made notes in them- correcting grammar and spelling and such. It's not your book, don't write in the damn things, the rest of the world doesn't need your notes!

Oh you are so right about Gamestop. They rip you off for trade in value and they really push the pre order thing like it's crack. I drive 20 minutes out of the way to go to Best Buy. I only go through Gamestop if I need to get an obscure RPG.

Regarding Fallen's comment about 'raging homosexuals.' I often become angry because of the people that are obviously a homosexual but will not admit it because of 'issues' with their life. Please. Come out of the closet people. I know to some it may wind up being a huge problem with family, friends, etc., but nothing makes me more upset than seeing somebody put themselves through pointless suffering.
Ignorant people that I talk to over the phone at my job. Dear Horus, I can not stand them. I almost snap every time when a particular person calls in with an issue, and they do not even know their telephone number or any account information whatsoever. Yay. That is almost every other call.
Extreme religious people cause me to make myself angry as well. I feel like I have to wash my hands every time I talk to one of them. It is very common here in the Bible Belt. My hands are raw.

Since we were kind of on the whole tipping thing a while ago, it made me wonder, why is it that tips aren't just included in the cost of the meal? I mean, I wonder because over here it's included, and cabbies and waiters just get paid. None of that tipping shit. Tipping in itself is kind of annoying. That and tax. Why can't they just put it all on the cost? It's such an annoying scheme. Whenever you buy anything, you're getting something, say 19.99, but it's not $20, it's $28. Just make it goddamn $28, and stop scheeming people into thinking it's less. Burrr, I guess those are a couple of things that piss me off up north- why?

We have the same thing here, I think every single restaurant here charges tip automatically, 10%. Legally you can opt to take it off and some receipts say so in them.
Here there is always a disclaimer for the VAT or have VAT already applied to things since its so high (15%) it greatly changes what you are gonna be paying.

For servers in my area, minimum wage is $7.75/h. Otherwise I think it's $8.45 or something close. So yeah, it's not easy, but you can afford an apartment and food with a full-time job and support a kid or two. You're limited on where you can afford a place to live, of course.
Why is minimum wage's existence bad?

Yeah, I don't understand why they can't do that in the States and Canada (not sure how it is anywhere else), but wouldn't it make sense to have the whole price of the meal, including the service charge? Because it's not like you can really not tip. It's happened in Montreal a couple of times, they DEMAND tip, even if the service was obviously absolutely brutal. "Yeah, dude, I know tip's not included and it's 15%, I'm not tipping you not because I don't know, but because you sucked". Can't really go around saying that.

I think that its better to have a stated, fixed amount that way people cant be too cheap and others cant be too giving showing off how altruist and crap they are.
10% is ok, everybody tips it and it is not that hight for service. Like if a meal goes to 20 bucks, tip is just two dollars.
it's suck having tip built in because then a lot of servers wouldn't have as much motivation to do a good job. I've had some really really crappy servers before so it was nice to have the ability to tip them shitty.

Yeah, I was thinking that that would be the issue, but based completely on my own experiences, I've never had a problem here (where it's built in), whereas I have over there (where it's not). And also, I don't know why, but I tend to give whoopin' tips to cabs and delivery guys, but I hate tipping waiters. I don't know why. 0_o
Edit: No, man, it's not about being stingy at all. I just don't understand WHY it's not charged to the meal. I wouldn't mind if it 18% of the bill every time, but jeez, they should just have a set salary instead of having to rely on our mercy. ESPECIALLY if they're going to give shitty service and demand tip anyway. ALKSDJ:LSDkHLAS:D. And on that subject, why isn't tax included on products too? Does anybody know?

It's also pissing me off that I ordered two books on Amazon last night, one that's already out, one that comes out in August, and they are shipping both of them at once in August, instead of sending the one that's already out now first. I should have paid closer attention to the directions, I guess

It happens. Whenever I moved to my current house right now, I thought I entered in the right address for them to ship the book to me. I always like to look at the order e-mail, and lo' and behold, I typed in 2303 instead of 3203. Haha, I drove down the highway looking for the house and found it. Thankfully the owners of the place were really nice, and they gave me the package. Close one. :p
Matron
06-23-2008, 04:13 AM
Since you order from them a lot, maybe you can answer a question- will I get charged now, or in August when the books actually ship? I wouldn't want to over draw my debit card, but I might end up using the money if I won't get charged for a month. I tend to just put as much on as I need to buy something.
Jarrid

Honestly, I am not 100% on this because I have never pre-ordered anything from them, but I believe they will charge you right when you order it. That would be a good question to e-mail them, though. I had to e-mail customer care for Amazon before, and surprisingly, they were quite fast with a response, but I believe that was during business hours.

3. Colleagues that uses office resources as though they are owns them. Cheap!
4. Friends that visits you without prior notice. They will walk in and start giving their lecture about how your life are suppose to be. What do they know???
5. Friends who brags about how great, how successful they are in what they do. Who the hell care? If it so great, go and advertise in the newspaper and broadcast it in the national television.
6. I also f**king hate people who does not like to take accountability on what they do/say and keep avoiding the issue eventhough it is obvious they are the one responsible for the problem/ mistake.
7. It also pisses me off that people cut lanes without giving the signals when driving. Don't even get me started with reckless drivers! Arrgghhhhh.. Double parking, double line violation, etc.
Phakiel, I hate the taxi drivers over here too. They never like to use the taxi meters. When you say KL city, they will automatically ask for $20, now with the fossil fuel price surge, they are asking for at least $25. If they were to use the taxi meter, it would barely come to $15.

Absolutely. There was a case the other night when I was coming home from a friend's house. I was driving down the road that I always drive down to get to the highway, and I noticed a biker was behind me quite a good amount away. Well, as I am getting closer to the highway to get to the house, I notice the biker is on my ass the whole entire time. Turns out being a guy on a crotch-rocket, and well, I really do not care for those all that much. Well, I take this little side-road to get to the highway faster, and sure enough he took it as well. He started swerving back and forth right behind my car. I brake checked him, and then he decided to speed up and pass me. This might sound a little crazy because it is, but as he was passing me, I decided to do a little swerving myself. Yeah, I came really close to causing a pretty bad accident. Would not of hurt me in any way, but he would of been flying through the air. He eventually gunned it, and I lost sight of him. Oh, well.

Customer service reps that just cycle through the same questions over and over again. I was having issues setting up an online login for a credit card. It kept saying that the information I was entering didn't match the information they had in their system. I called in, told them the specific error the website was giving me, and they kept having me "try again" over and over again until I would get locked out from the site, and then tell me to wait 24 hours for the lockout to expire and try again.
The first two times I shrugged it off because I didn't want to waste any more time that day getting it set up. The third time, I got into it with the rep. He kept saying that I couldn't log into the site because the username and password that I was entering (on the registration screen) wasn't correct--that they didn't have record of it in their system. They didn't have record of it because I was still trying to register.
I told him I wasn't going to "try again" and asked for his name and his supervisor, and he got really helpful. Well, as helpful as you can get for being a complete idiot. I asked him if my SSN was entered wrong, since the last 4 digits are almost identical to the last 4 digits of my phone number, sometimes I get them mixed up when I fill shit out (though I was entering it into the registration screen correctly). He must have glazed over that fact because he was telling me that he couldn't change any information until I could confirm my most recent transactions.
I looked through my receipts and listed off my most recent transactions but he said it was wrong because they weren't the ones that were on his screen (non-pending transactions). How the **** am I supposed to know what's on HIS screen? I chewed him out over that shit for like ten minutes and we just talked in circles.
Finally he relented after I gave him every bit of information he could possibly need to confirm my identity, did a little clickety clacking on his keyboard and asked me to try again. I tried again. Shit didn't work. I just hung up on the sod and registered for the website with the wrong info that they had in their system.
The thing I don't understand is, how is my credit card in their system under the wrong social security number? Ugh. Yeah, clearly I was pissed off by this.

Inari, I hear you on the poor customer service. I've got an HP laptop (it was on sale at my old job + employee discount made it a pretty sweet deal), and I had to call customer service a few times because the touch pad spazzed out a lot. It would freeze horizontal movement and only move vertically... and vice versa.
I talked to my brother before I called customer service, and my brother was like "well, we'll reformat, and we'll reinstall the drivers...that's what they'll tell you to do first." Okay. Done and done.
Called customer service a few days later about the problem, as it was still there. Their call center is obviously in India or Bangladesh, as the accent is unmistakable... "Hi my name is Sarah, how can I help you?" I giggled to myself, Sure, Baljeet... I explained the problem. She told me to do the same things my brother already had me do. I explained to her that I already did them. Basically it was like I was talking in circles, because she didn't believe I'd already done that, and on top of that she wanted me to take down my firewall so she could do it herself... No. I already did that. She logged everything, and we hung up.
I called back two days later... I think the man said his name was "Pete." ...Riiiight. Basically, the same thing happened... 30 minutes of arguing on the phone "been there, done that." He logged all the information.
I called back again a few days later...then...FINALLY, I got my call transfered to the department that arranges to pick up your laptop and have it looked at.
It took talking to 3 different people, over about a week...to finally have it arranged to have my laptop picked up. They replaced the touch pad...and it still had the same problem... So I ended up adjusting the sensitivity settings on it and shut off the scroll bar portion of the touch pad... No problems since.
Luckily, the only other thing I had to call them about was the "Y" key popping off on my keyboard... that's a big enough issue, apparently, to just have your call transferred right away to be arranged to be picked up. But the touch pad? Nah.
Since, my laptop has gone out of warranty... And the fan died...I just had my brother fix that... heh It's easier to deal with your brother than customer service anyway...:p

I should have posted this right after I saw the movie, but The Happening pissed me off thoroughly. I simply waved an old ticket stub at the guy and he let me through, which really paid off considering the movie was hardly even worth my time. I'm still mad about that whole thing. Kung Fu Panda was very good which was nice because I actually paid for that one. That cheered me up.

You know, I geta kick from messing with taxi drivers, you could mess with utah drivers. I hate taxi drivers with every single fiber in my body, so whenever I have a taxi tailing me, I slow down so he gets desperate and as soon as he is speeding to pass me, I accelerate to be on his same speed so that he cant pass me and gets stuck with the next car he find in front of him, I try to take it as long as I can until I get stuck with a car in frot of me for instance.
Also when they cut me off at night and we reach a red light, i get really close to his tail and turn on my high lights.
Today, I alsmost saw a bus crash into a taxi. Buses are pricks too, it would have been the highlight of my month to see them crash. Moreso if a biker wouldnt have gottn injured too.
I hate bikers. Not those slow lowrider bikers, they are annoying but you can ignore them, its the other assholes that grinds my gears, the little bastards cutting you off and appearing out of nowhere from your right or left.

Those automized customer service telephone system pisses me off too. The number of buttons and choices are extremely long and waste of time. Is worst here in Malaysia since they support all kinds of language and they love to offer multiple services together. The first question related to language selection itself is f**king long. Press 1 for Malay language, Press 2 for Mandarin, Press 3 for English language .... next Press 1 to check your balance, etc etc. I just want to talk to the stupid customer service officer, god damnit! Can't they just sequence that as the first question? The nightmare is when you finally able to choose the option of talk directly to the customer service officer after like 3-4 minutes of pressing buttons on your phone, the stupid system tells you... "currently all our customer care line is busy. if you choose to wait, you are caller number 10++/ 20++ on the waiting list!".

Ahh sometimes if I just want to pay a bill or something, it gets on my nerves when systems are voice activated to try and simulate real customer service. Either just send me straight to a rep or let me press buttons all the way through. I feel like a jackass when I'm sitting there enunciating into the phone "MAKE A PAYMENT".

Here's a new one that none of you have to deal with, but, working with tech support and dispatch at my job make we want to go on a killing spree sometimes.
I get sent out on a job to replace the hard drive. After changing out the drive the system still doesn't see it. First thing I do is go in the BIOS to see that NONE of the drives are being recognized. I drove for about four hours to get to this job and they misdiagnosed the problem. This is something that they should have been able to see. Instead they see the system won't boot and can't find the OS so it must be the drive. Then the other day I was arguing with dispatch who wanted to send me to a site to replace the fuser on a printer that I had just replaced the fuser on. I told him that wasn't the problem and he told me is was easy to change and it would only take five minutes. I yelled, I know you pompous ass. I just changed the fuser in that same printer. It's not the printer. Oh, and it takes 20 minutes for the fuser to warm up so it's not a five minuet job. Turns out it's jamming after the fuser. The stacker on that side was unplugged. Problem solved.
Damn Neanderthals. I swear, it's that only the start of it.

It's just really upsetting to me, because for once in my life I felt like I'd truly accomplished something, and within 2 months it was yanked out from under me...
Quick run down: he didn't pay attention to the fact that my catalog year had a 124 unit requirement for graduation... Each catalog since then has been 120 units. On top of that, CSUF only accepts 70 transfer units... I have 51 units at CSUF. Total of 121 units. I'm 3 units short. (Overall I have something like 140+ but because CSUF only accepts 70 transfer units, I'm screwed.)
I'm still utterly depressed about it...but I know I'll just have to get back into CSUF for another semester to actually get the bachelors... Luckily, after doing a lot of staring at the wall today and thinking about it, I just need two more classes for an MCJ minor... So I'm going to do that, too.
