The only two I was familiar with were the Friday the 13th and the Chrono Cross game over screens. Friday the 13th's is classic though: YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS ARE DEAD. GAME OVER.

I always adored the Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne screen. The imagery of the spiral of angels leading up to heaven always appealed to me.
I'm surprised that Chrono Cross's screen made it in over Chrono Trigger's, though. I mean, I love the music and the text is haunting, but I don't think it can top watching what happens if you allow Lavos to emerge in Chrono Trigger. "But the future refused to change," accompanied by Lavos's scream, is still pretty creepy to me today.

I love Colonel. I loled at the Friday the 13th ending. I never had a game over in Chrono Cross so I had no idea how badass that game over screen was. Then again, I never got passed the beginning haha. The soundtrack is awesome though....going off topic.
I dunno I really liked the SF2 screens where you lose and your character is beat the hell up and then the counter starts. Does that count as a game over screen though?

All of the Resident Evils had a haunting 'Game Over' screen, with the eerie voice and all, but I think RE4's particular game over screens have to take the cake.

How about when Samus dies in the GBA Metroid games, and you can finally see what's under all the armor? Why didn't they do that with the Primes?
