I know that a lot of us have grown up/ are growing up and have less and less time to dedicate to our favorite genre RPGs. Do you find that you have become less inclined to spend the time playing them and focus on faster paced quick saving games instead?

I know that for myself I seem to find different times when I can get very engaged into an RPG and other times I feel too busy and can only play a quick game of something. As much as I would like to devote more attention to a good cozy RPG, I'm finding it harder and harder to do. My stacks of unopened RPGs continues to grow and grow. Unopened copies of Growlanser:Generations, Wild ARMs 3, Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata and others are starting to build up quick no matter how fast I try and finish the other games. I can only hope that I can get around to them some time in the future.

How about everyone else?

I still love RPGs....they're a good 90% of the games I enjoy.

I like my yearly madden games, and Team Fortress 2 is awesome. The occasional FPS is fun too...and lest we forget my fanboyism for Silent Hill(even though I consider this an RPG in a way)

But nothing gets me REALLY involved, really enjoying myself, like a good RPG with an excellent Narrative and fun, immersive gameplay.

I've noticed my attention span getting worse each year. I just can't sit at home anymore and play an RPG like I used to. I've been getting more into sports/action games as of late just for the sheer pace of gaming they have.

I've certainly distanced myself from Japanese Console RPGs over the past generation. The predictable storylines and linear organization leaves much to be desired in terms of customization. There are obvious exceptions that I'm willing to play. I'm somewhat anticipating Disgaea 3 even though I haven't played Disgaea 2 yet (still wrapped), and never liked La Pucelle nor Phantom Brave.

I've been playing a lot of morrowind at the moment, and probably logged more hours into that than my second playthrough of persona 2. However, the quest bugs are starting to get on my nerves.

My attention span is terrible nowadays. Unless the gameplay and story are completely submersive, I find that I can't play the game for more than 1 hour at a time before getting bored and wating to play something else. I guess it also has to do with being grown up. You realize that you don't have the kind of time to dilly dally like when you were younger, so you tend to not waste time with things you feel aren't worth it. That's how I see it anyway.

I think my preferences are starting to change too. I've pretty much always played your typical turn based RPGs, ala Final Fantasy style, and I've always preferred them. But I don't know if it's playing games like WoW, and hack n slashers like Champions of Norrath, but I'm noticing turn based ones just don't really hold my attention like the used to.

This year, I've tried real hard with both Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon. The stories are fun, the characters are nice, but I find myself wanting to snore during the battles now, and so I end up quitting. On a lot of games, I've started playing them on split screen, and watching tv on the other side, only switching them during cinematics or when there is something to be read, just to get through the battles.

I love to read news about all of the new RPGs coming out, but I honestly do not play them at all like I did back in the day. The only console I really play now is my DS, and I will buy once in a blue moon an old GBA RPG or new DS RPG. Also, games in general, I do not play them. I just have not had the time or really been in the mood, however, I like to try and keep up with the big titles that come out so I know what the hell you guys are talking about.

It depends. I don't go out of my way to sample every RPG that comes out (still haven't played Blue Dragon or Eternal Sonata), but I'm still a big Tales, Final Fantasy and Bioware fan.

Part of the problem is, as Zeal said, keeping up with smaller titles that come out. I know that for myself I really enjoy playing games that most people would skip over and try new things as much as possible. The problem is that it's hard to keep track of them and also find time to play them as well. Basically I just avoid the big title games for the most part now and check out unique titles instead.

I'm still a traditionist in RPG genre. Yup, still prefer the turn-based types of RPG now and forever. I do play action-based types of RPG but I know longer have the patience for SRPG as compared to during the SNES era. I used to enjoy Feda and FFT but I find it really tedious to be managing an army of characters. I tried to get back to SRPG a couple of months back playing Poison Pink, but I just don't have that kind of feel for it anymore.

Right now with the PSP, I'm enjoying every moment I have with FF1 20th aniversary version. When I got time, I will go back with FF: CC and Rogue Galaxy. But I most likely will continue my gameplay of SMT: P3 which I target to complete by the end of this year.

I enjoy many RPGs, though I yearn to see more that, though not necessarily push anything new, feature some real fun. Let me walk around and get to know my allies, let me learn new things in battle that will totally open things up. A story doesn't necessarily NEED to be deep, if it's well-written and entertaining.

My taste for RPG's was huge a few years ago... then I got hooked on FFXI and didn't care much for new RPG's coming out. In addition to that, I wasn't interested in games that used the active battle system where you were only in control of one character. To me, it takes away the "fun factor" of having control over your team.

Since there were a large number of those games that came out recently, I stayed away. Now that I'm spending less time on FFXI, I've been trying to play catch-up on some RPG's. So to me, my taste has grown a bit again... especially with news of some upcoming 360 and PS3 games.

I don't really care for RPGs that much anymore. I need that sense of control, now more than ever. I suspect eventually the RPG will go the way of the beat-em-up, it will kind of be absorbed into more emcompassing genres. I suppose it's already happening, but I don't really have the opportunity to play those games.

This may sound a little odd, but when I look at some of the newer RPGs that are coming out for the next gen consoles, I am really turned off by the graphics. Yes, they look great, but when I was growing up and playing RPGs, the graphics did not matter at all to me. Yeah, I like a pretty game, but I just have been turned off in way, and I think maybe some of the companies focus way too much on the graphics than anything. I suppose there are plenty of RPGs out there that try and stay old school in a way, but I have not really made time to check them out. I know that games are going to continue to advance in pretty much everything, but I still have so much joy from playing the old ones that came out back in the day. and really, those are all I really play. Yeah, I will buy a new RPG for the DS, but I just do not get that same giddy feeling like I use to. However, it is probably just my feelings about it all changing.

Things changes, everything changes. Nothing remain the same. Get used to it.

So how it is for you? Same or changed? It won't hurt anyone to explain yourself eh!?

I change with the flow.

No more 2d characters, got used to 3d characters. No more lousy game movies, got used to the good graphic ones.

Only thing I could want is better storyline. Games nowadays have lousy storyline, like Shadow Hearts 2 (when compared to Shadow Heart 1) and FFX-2 (when compared to FFX).
