View Full Version : Favorite Game Town
Do you guys have a favorite in-game town, city, or burg?
It can be from an RPG, Adventure game, strategy game. Whatever.
What are some of your favorites?
As for myself, for some reason I always liked Treno from FF9. Kinda had it's own atmosphere away from most other RPG cities. Maybe because it was perpetually nighttime whenever you went there.

Thats easy, Shevat from Xenogears. It has high technology and is suspended in the goddamn air. And not like Solaris which also was but in Shevat you are just like going out on the town and see earth below your feet. Must be scary as fucking balls but also cool.

FFIX really did have some really nicely designed towns. As did FFVII and VIII. Hard to pick a single favorite though. I have to say, Midgar as a whole really drew me in. I wish there was even more to explore in the game.

For me personally it's the Kingdom of Zeal. I don't really know why... Maybe something to do with the music. Whatever the reason, I always love that very short initial visit.
Indeed. I love the music in 12K BC. My favorite song from any RPG ever.

Oh, shit. That one town from Chrono Trigger... I forgot the name. It was all high-tech and advanced and had that uber awesome music playing in the background. If someone could enlighten me on the name, it would be much appreciated.
I also loved Esthar and Winhill from FF8, as well.

Cosmo Canyon from FFVII because of the music and the crazy layout. And, Traverse Town from Kingdom Hearts because of all the various nooks to explore and the plethora of tall buildings that you can climb on top of in order to jump off and glide around.

Not exactly a town, but I'd definately want to visit the "Temple of Worship" from Shadow of the Colossus if it were a real place. I'm an architecture geek, and I found it very beautiful and impressive. Love the bridge design as well.
As far as towns go, I'm going with Lea Monde. More of a ghost city than town, but back in it's heyday I bet it was awesome. Man I want another Vagrant Story...Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter was the closest thing to another Vagrant Story that will ever exist I'm afraid.

Hyrule Castle Town in Twilight Princess would be my favorite. The city showed a great attention to detail, down to the last character.
Lindblum in FF9 is also another favorite of mine, although all the cities in that game were well done.

Based solely on looks Id say any town in Chrono Cross. I thought the whole game was beautiful. If I could live in any game world that would be it.
Midgar is an obvious choice for me. There was so much depth to that place. They could have made a whole game that took place there and I would have been happy. Theres so many layers to it. It just felt like there were so many stories waiting to be told there.

Zeal. That place and the music were tits.
Burmecia from FF IX.
Fuck yes! The music, the rain, and the general atmosphere are totally epic. It's probably one of the most complete places in any game I have ever played. Ever.
Termina in Majora's Mask was pretty sweet, as were the various towns in the Wind Waker, and the Twilight Princess. I absolutely loved the towns of Final Fantasy X, and X-2. And then of course Final Fantasy XII has a slough of towns and settings which are extremely captivating to me. I think Final Fantasy VII should get a nod for having so much atmospheric draw for a game of that era, and similarly, the scale of the Gardens, Deling City, and Esthar in Final Fantasy VIII are all worth mention.
I'm gonna throw a twist in here, since this place has SOOO much love for shooters. Jacincto and generally, most of the city settings in the Gears series are awesome, if at all repetative. That said, as far as cityscapes go there's not much more to ask for considering the global setting of the game. New Mombasa from the Halo series also gets my mention. And of course Raccoon City (Surprised no one mentioned it earlier, though).
And this is kind of a personal favorite, which I wouldn't be surprised to get shunned, but the town in Digimon World was awesome. If Pokemon did something similar, I'd probably be a virgin.
