You know what they say, history does repeat itself. I'm just going to blab on for a paragraph or so. This thread, it is my "props" thread. I was thinking about my time here at allrpg, the time where I had the most fun. Where I believe these forums were at it's peak, at the very beginning. I ask myself; why was it so much fun? This is because allrpg was a small community, a very tight nit community, if you were an active member, then you knew just about everyone. Today, this is exactly was allrpg is, I'm very impressed that dispite how bad things got a lot of our current members are still with us. This also goes the same with our original members, 7 years... I can't believe its been that long.

I want to personally thank the current site and forum staff for keeping the dream alive. Not to mention any of you that have worked for allrpg.com in some, way, shape, or form. And of course the members.... obviously, if it wasn't for you guys, there would not be an allrpg.

Last but not least, Hyde, you're not the easiest person to get along with, but I'm glad to call you a friend. More times often than not, you've looked out for this sites best interest. I honestly do not know where allrpg would not be without you. You took allrpg under your wing, if it were not for you, there is a good chance allrpg would be done and over with. You got my props.

I also would like to give a big thanks to Hyde as well as Blue and all of the other people that pitched in to help out with the new forums. I hope that I can possibly contribute more to this site when we get things rolling again.

To Serge: We go back a long ways thanks to the chat. I am glad and happy to still see you around, man. I hope you will always find some time to drop in and say some random shit like you always do. We have had deep conversations, and a lot of conversations about beer and women. All were great. When I first started going here at AllRPG a long time ago, you were one of the two people I looked up to. The other person is no longer here with us. You are still the man. Serggggg!

I'm a fairly busy person, and I like to spend a lot of time here when I'm not doing anything exceptionally important... so thank you all for really putting the effort in to keep this place alive.

Thanks for letting me be a mod, Serge... Seriously, that's just the ****ing tops, bro. The cat's hats... or something.

Movin' on up, bitches.

I don't know, AllRPG seemed a lot bigger back then than it did just before this change, and seemed a lot more exciting. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Well at least we got rid of all the non actives.

That's one thing I really like about the move. I no longer have to look at the bottom at all the birthdays of people I've never seen post.

I also enjoyed this place when it was more active and had many more users than it currently does. It seemed more fun than having just a handful of regulars. I've been encouraging friends to join, but it seems like they don't want to.

I also have to give kudos to Hyde for doing what he does.

I don't think AllRPG has really been at its peak since between 2000 - 2002. And by "peak", I don't mean the spammy, "Whoz cutter -- Sepyroth or Cluud?" type of posters we used to have. I mean, back when this place was my one-and-only stop for true RPG discussion. Ever since Kingdom Hearts was released, this place hasn't been the same.

Still, I do love it here. The people keep me coming back, whether we talk about RPGs or not.

I think I agree with Serge on this one. It's a very tight-knit community now where everyone has some sort of relationship with... well, just about everyone. Despite my extended absences in the past, this place is still a sort of home to me, even now. I'd say it's all because of the members who've stuck around and the constant attempts to improve. While the new layout and such still feels a little foreign to me, it's growing on me. Aesthetically it's different, but it's still the same AllRPG I used to know I love.

I don't think I'll ever leave. It's very odd to wonder about that.

I'd like to hear constructive criticism about what the older, more established members think.

I think AllRPG is doing just fine, personally. I used to think that it was always just another lost member away from dying off. Though, most of the same people who were here when I thought that are still here today. And more people, yet.

Though, the hay day that King Zeal talked about was probably my favorite time to be a member of AllRPG, I like it just the same today. I think the main page is doing just fine, and some day expect to volunteer my time to the staff again to help with news.

And I assume I will be here as long as AllRPG is here.
I think things will stay pretty much the same as they are, though. Spiking up and down every so often. Hopefully there will be some more games like Chrono Cross, or the various Final Fantasy games that made this place interesting to debate in.

And I assume I'll be here till the end, if it ever comes.

Unless we have an allrpgforums.com website, it will come soon if we do not gain any site staff members.

This was directed more at Hyde, but I'm not sure if he ever read it. I more recently sent him suggestions on a new logo (just as ideas, I'm not trying to dictate all art direction around here). I understand why he shot that down (a logo change would be too drastic) but most of my previous suggestions would probably be fairly easy to address.

I know they're strictly aesthetic criticisms, I hope that's okay.

We need more RPG discussion, there's no denying that.

If not then these forums might as well be called "allcommunity.com"

I love RPG discussion, but I can't afford to keep up with all the new games. I tend to play stuff a year or so after it comes out.

We can discuss any RPG really.

I don't buy them anymore. And I gave up on gaming, now all I play on is my DS.

I agreed with most of your points in that post.

I don't think this comment should be taken without consideration since it's obviously for the better.

How do you feel about the quality of discussion? Does this place still feel like "home" to you? Stuff like that.

I'm pleased with the quality of discussion, though it's not what I originally joined for. I've said my own and know the opinions of others on just about every topic I'm interested in discussing, unfortunately. Unfortunately, getting more of that kind of discussion pretty much depends solely on a bunch of big name RPGs coming out at the same time, and attracting people to these forums.

EDIT:

I always liked the old system of having forums for individual series and producers, as well. I feel that people are more willing to make threads on those subjects if you give them a subforum to post it in. I use Creative Corner merging with Community Discussion as my example.

That's cool, man. Yeah, Hyde would have to be the one to talk to in terms of aesthetics.

Mainly what I wanted to get some feedback on from the older members here, was how they felt about the overall feel of the forums. Things are a lot different than they were even just three years ago. How do you feel about the quality of discussion? Does this place still feel like "home" to you? Stuff like that.
Well, to be honest, the "look" has a lot to do with how a forum "feels." The quality of discussion pretty much entirely depends on what people want to talk about. That's not something you can really change. There is the matter of how the sub-forums are layed out, but that's always been a mess (no offense, it's hard to fit things nicely into sub-forums when the primary focus is a genre, and you then have to worry about the non-RPG gaming discussion).

I will say this, though. One of the things I thought was pretty cool about AllRPG was that it had connections with other communities, and there were all-in-good-fun (for the most part) rivalries that kept things interesting. AllSquare, Dire Legacy, (the short-lived) GameSeers, PGNx, and probably others I'm forgetting. I don't know if there'd be a way to rekindle anything like that. But, if anything, that's what I miss.

Dire Legacy, (the short-lived)

I really miss that place, it had lots of old members from this forum (most of the annoying flamers).

I also recall Dire having a clear cut schism which branched off into another site called True Anime, I don't know what happened to that, though.

Just an idea, but why not game or series specific forums like we used to have?

We could get the SSNP and CSNP back together or something. Spur some more RPG conversation.

We've always contracted the forums, maybe we should add a couple?

Yeah I can't believe it has been 7 years since I joined. That's fucking ridiculous. I haven't always been active (I've taken years away from this place in total, and videogames in general), but I do enjoy listening to the opinions of the people around here. In the Community Discuss, there's usually current debate and new things to talk about, and it's not full of abunch of spammers or idiots who don't know what they're saying. Regardless of the RPG discuss that goes on, I enjoy the rest of the board. I don't buy a lot of new games either, just NHL's, RE's, and the odd RPG that sparks my interest.

It says a lot that we still, after all this time, come here to talk with one another. I just think the constant rebuilding and all that weakens the Allrpg name.
