I know there are a few of us here that like to watch anime. What have you been watching lately? I do not really keep up with it all, but I do enjoy watching a good series every now and then. I think the last one I watched was Serial Experiments Lain, and I really enjoyed it.

I had a long anime phase, but it stopped ages ago. During the year a friend and I would watch Neon Genesis every now and again. I actually have a list of animes to watch from years past and Serial Experiement Lain is number one. Maybe I'll check it out one of these days.

That actually sounds a lot like me... I stopped being insane about anime a few years ago... Now I'll only watch a few of the series' that I've enjoyed (NGE, Bebop, Lain, Love Hina), and anything by Miyazaki. Otherwise, I think I "outgrew" my anime phase.
I'll watch a new one now and then if I have friends raving about it long enough...but the last new one I checked out was Fooly Cooly, and I wasn't impressed.

I also stopped years ago. It was sort of how I stopped playing soccer when i was in high school. One day I simply stopped. I think that the last anime I saw day to day was Neon Genesis Evangelion.

I dont think they have made any worthy anime after that. Then again it might just that I lost any interest in watching it so i dont see any good series anymore.

I was thinking about making this thread, and I know you got the idea from my drunken post about Cowboy Bebop, Jarrid. ;=)

I love anime. I'm really into samurai based anime. I love Samurai 7, Samurai Champloo, InuYasha, etc... And, of course, Cowboy Bebop.

I've also been watching a bit of The Death Note, which is very good.

I fell in love with Code Geass other than a few holes in the story and a lot of bs in parts . The manga needs to be translated more but as much that has been clearly out performs the anime in scripting at times. You can almost tell at times when the director pulled bullshit out of no where to try to justify the main character's actions or to make the bad guys no different from Hilter with exaggerated racism.

I use to watch a lot of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z back in the day. If I were to watch it now, especially in English, it would wind up being a night of laughter. Man, it was horrible. I have not had the chance to see it with subtitles and in it's original language. However, I do not think I could sit through it. The story is just absolutely horrible with Z.

Bleach isn't any better or worse than most shonen anime. The main draw of the show, arguably, are the main villain and the ridiculously overwhelming odds the hero always finds himself up against.

Would you say is better than Bleach?

Heh. You want the real deal of anime/manga? Watch and read Hitman Reborn. The only anime/manga saving other shounen titles.

Bleach... I really tried watching but there's always filler episodes in between and usually it would be 1 or 2 episodes but this is more than that. How the hell you're gonna squeeze in a filler arc between Arrancar and Espada ? Seriously, I had high hopes for this filler because they took it back with Soul Society but that didn't even help. We see lots of bloodbaths but guess what ? No deaths that can build up character personalities. It's always another power training arc before the climax. Boring. Now we have sub-bosses for each hero.

Sorry to all Bleach fans but at least you have to admit that it's getting out of hand. One Piece isn't really doing that great either. Although I do like it when they air one episode once in a while because of it sticking too close to the manga. Anything's better than a filler. Naruto is the same thing when it comes to filler but the way the story's going in the manga is a huge improvement.

But yeah, Rai. Watch hitman reborn ;p.

Don't really care for the majority of anime that I've seen. Unless it's an OVA, it's usually cheaply produced, badly translated, loaded with filler, and bursting with cliche. Sadly, even being an OVA doesn't save most in terms of quality.

The last anime that I watched and enjoyed was Samurai Champloo, but the English version was a real disappointment over the original.

I spent some time with Zombie Loan last year. Watched all 11 episodes. Not necessarily great, but flashy. Kept me busy during long work hours. Reminded me a bit of Death Note in terms of how the series was setup. I don't particularly care for Death Note, however.

I tried to watch a bit of Naruto as well. Mind numbingly bad. Horrible animation, boring characters, cliche setups. A kid's show through and through.

I tried watching Full Metal Alchemist as well. Several really good episodes, a few bad ones. The story just ran a bit too long for it's own good. You can skip about 20 episodes in the middle and not really lose much of the story. Filler.

I can dig Shin Chan from time to time, if they manage to translate the jokes well. If not, I'll accept decent substitutions.

I could bring up Cowboy Bebop, but there's not much to say about it that hasn't been said.

You know what series of OVAs kicked ass? Iria. I think it was made before Cowboy Bebop but rode on the space mercenary thing too. Iria was this badass bounty hunter chick who could kick an absurdly amount of ass and fought this weird being with a hat on that looked like her brother.

Gungrave is actually a really good anime. I was surprised by just how much I enjoyed it, seeing as it was based off of a semi-interesting PS2 action game. I definitely recommend it.

The only show I watch right now is Bleach. I keep up with the manga as well, and as much as I love Naruto and One Piece, I don't find their fillers to be up to par, so I just stick to their mangas entirely.

The last series I watched aside from those were Sorcerous Stabber Orphen and Orphen: Revenge. Entertaining, but the latter was by far not as good as the former.

I pretty much outgrew anime, like many of you have said. The maturity level of so many series is just... way too low is all. I can't get into it. I like something a little more realistic (I'm really not asking for too much here).

I actually really liked Naruto when it first came out. As far as Shounen series go, it's pretty rad. I stopped watching after like 150 episodes though.

Um.. my favorite series has always been Cowboy Bebop. Big fan of series like Azumanga Daioh or Jungle wa Itsumo Hare Nochi Guu. Random but not excessively so. As for "shoujo" series, Fushigi Yuugi was suprisingly great. Similar to that is Ten Kingdoms, which I really liked.

Odd series that I took a liking to.. Go. A show about a board game. I don't know why I liked it so much but I watched the whole thing.

Shows that I hate.. pretentious "thinking" anime. I never watched more than a couple of episodes of NGE here and there.

Ok. I look for it later in the evening at the Anime video renting store. Is a new title rite? How many episodes?

For the manga, vol 1-7 is out. The anime won't see light of it in another while.

The only problem with the anime adaption is :

Blood : There's basically no kind of blood. My only guess is because they have the anime running on a kid's network channel but I do hope they do something about it because of the recent arc that's running.

Episodes : From what I have, there would always be 3-5 episode fillers in between the more important arcs. What they lack is the gore and possibly one or two important characters from the manga. Not that it puts critical damage to the anime adaption since the filler episodes are nothing but cover ups from the manga. So it's only right they add 2 filler episodes between or within the arc. Otherwise they'll lean very close to the manga. At least they made it this far to not let it suffer like Naruto and Bleach. I'm satisfied.

Music : Done by Toshihiko Sakahashi. If you loved music from Big O, you'll definately love this. My problem with this was episode 1-19 had me pullin my ears cause of the same shit. 20-65 delivered more awesome tracks but there's two tracks that always comes up which'll annoy the hell out of you. The current arc at this moment is doing alot more better and you wont hear any of the songs from the other arcs except one song.

The only features they lack at this moment is widescreen picture, stronger drama music and the blood. So far alot of people are sleeping on the show because of the wrong ideas they get about the "little mascot characters" in the show. Do NOT let that throw you off. If you're loyal to the mafia world as well , then there's no doubts ;p.

When you reach the 3rd anime arc (V.R. battle Arc), Make sure you look at the manga version as well to see what I mean by it being toned down.

Really, who doesn't love Kiki's Delivery Service? That was a damn good movie! :D

And Taleran, don't worry. I've read every available chapter of One Piece. It's only now starting to pick up after what was an extremely mediocre arc. Naruto, on the other hand, is finally getting into the real meat of the story. I can see how you would have no interest in that because you've never been a fan of the characters. I, however, love a lot of the characters, and this is very satisfying for me.

And Sorcerer Hunters is an all-time favorite of mine. I can always look back on it fondly :)

Akira will always be this quintessential anime for everyone not only because of storyline but gang rivalry and supernatural elements. I can tell you that the manga/novels are 100 times better only because the movie didn't cover up most of what's in the books. If you loved the movie, check out the novels.

The movie's been praised for quite a long time. Berserk is underrated and deserves tv run on either AS or Sci-Fi.

Is Berserk really that good?

I only saw one episode and I wasn't that impressed with it.

It's an odd thing but I look at the title of this thread and I see the word anime. As in the Japanese word for animation. As in not a comic book/manga. The latter are rather weak in the animation department. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against manga and am certain that indeed the original manga is more often the better. But that still doesn't make it any more relevant.

Is The Wizard of Oz any good and should I watch it? Read it and judge for yourself. Notice the slight disconnect there. That's my point.

So I've watched most of Berserk now. Entertaining certainly, but it hasn't exactly made my top ten list. I am, however, probably going to read the manga once I finish the anime, as I hear it goes much further into the story.

I haven't even posted here yet...

In general I don't really like anime, but Death Note is brilliant. As a kid I watched stuff like pokemon, evangelion and there was this one about these robot women, i forgot the name but the plot went something like "after a war every woman on earth died so women were relaced by robot women" or something like that, and dragonball, of course. That's all.

What's wrong with Death Note? I liked Death Note :( Well, I liked the manga at least. The anime just wasn't up to par

Death note rules. It's the only decent anime out there.

Just watched the final episode of Deathnote. Overall I was pleased. The suspense was almost unbearable at times.

There can be different kinds of disturbing. Urotsukidoji is certainly very disturbing when the kid...
I was watching some prime time family sitcom on TV once and they made a reference to Urotsukidoji.

That was a pretty good show. I enjoyed the music, characters, story, and fighting scenes. I took a couple days to watch the entire series in intervals.

Yep, Samurai Champloo was very fun to watch. I fell in love with the characters. Hell, it was written by Shinichirō Watanabe, so I had a feeling I would like it. The music was absolutely amazing as well. I listen to the soundtracks all the time, and I enjoy listening to Nujabes, which helped out with the music in the show. Good stuff.

Yeah, I absolutely loved it. I don't watch a lot of anime so I was surprised to enjoy Champloo so much.

I'm going to watch Cowboy Bebop next. I've seen the movie and the animation kicked my ass.
