- Build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

- It's a funny thing that when a man hasn't anything on earth to worry about, he goes off and gets married. - Robert Frost

- It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt. - Honest Abe

I should be able to think some up but the only one that comes to mind right now is this classic:

"Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves." - William Pitt.

Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society.

I don't give a damn for a man that can only spell a word one way.

In religion and politics, people's beliefs and convictions are in almost every case gotten at second hand, and without examination.

Good breeding consists of concealing how much we think of ourselves and how little we think of the other person.

I thoroughly disapprove of duels. I consider them unwise and I know they are dangerous. Also, sinful. If a man should challenge me now I would go to that man and take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet retired spot and kill him.

(all are by Mark Twain...what a clever man)

Peer pressure killed Jesus!" - Chris Pitts

You can really tell people's sense of humor by the quotes they choose. It's interesting.

I am almost positive I did, I even remember copying and pasting my quotes. The only thing I can think of is that I hit the preview button instead of reply. But I don't think I did. Either way, not an issue I guess.

Some quotes:

"You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time." - Abraham Lincoln

"Democracy is the worst form of government except all other forms that have been tried." - Winston Churchill

"It is better to vote for what you want and not get it than vote for what you don't want and get it." - Eugene V. Debs

"Insanity in individuals is something rare; but in groups, parties, nations, and epochs it is the rule." - Friedrich Nietzsche

"If we long for our planet to be important, there is something we can do about it. We make our world significant by the courage of our questions and by the depth of our answers." - Carl Sagan

Yet more evidence that I should become a teacher... Geez. It's embarrassing how ignorant the average American is about Geography...

Most of my favorite quotes are things my Dad has said, a couple of examples:

"Don't look at me in that tone of voice."
"I wouldn't keep that nasty thing in my mouth either." (In response to someone sticking their tongue out at you.)

And there's one he said once when I was a teenager and my boyfriend broke up with me, but I've heard it other ways and from other people...:

"You'll have to kiss a lot of frogs until the frog you kiss will turn into your prince."

There's also the treasure trove of quotes that is Futurama...
"Did you ever try simply turning off the TV, sitting down with your children, and hitting them?" -Bender
"Why couldn't she be the other type of mermaid, with the fish part on top and the lady part on the bottom?" -Fry
"Funny story, the script called for me to say yes, but I gave it a little twist." -Calculon
"Anecdote accepted, snappy comeback not found." -Humorbot 5.0
"Then we'll have to really land on the moon. Invent NASA and tell them to get off their fannies!" -President Truman
"The number you have dialed, has crashed into a planet, please make a note of it." -Operator message
"Wait, what would the robot do?" -Zoidberg
"Good way to avoid frostbite folks, put your hands between your buttocks, that's nature's pocket." "Uh, I think I'll go check on Bender." "Watch that he doesn't pick your pocket." -Leela and Free Waterfall Jr. (or whatever his name was)

Barack Obama quotes that I like...

"A good compromise, a good piece of legislation, is like a good sentence; or a good piece of music. Everybody can recognize it. They say, 'Huh. It works. It makes sense.'"

"Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek."

"If you're walking down the right path and you're willing to keep walking, eventually you'll make progress."

The Rock has had a few quotes here and there, all altered in some way or another. Yes, sometimes it was "Can you smell..." But most of the time it was "Do you smell..." Then there was a point in which he would ask people "Do you like... pie?"

Oh, and of course

"And that's the bottom line, 'cause Stone Cold said so."

How could I forget that one?

Now onto more serious quotes. One that's always stuck in my mind: "When someone shows you who they are, believe them." ~ Maya Angelo.
