View Full Version : AllRPG.com - The Return?
Right this second, in the AllRPG IRC Channel, there is a massive discussion about bringing the site back. Originally instigated by our beloved Fabs, and with a surprising amount of fervor, the conversation has been generally positive. Alot of good ideas are pouring out here. This is more excitement than I've seen from people in quite some time.
So here's the deal....
We're leaving it up to all of you.
Blue_Eon and I have tried several times to get a resurgence on the site going. Every time, the apathy shown has been...disappointing. We gave up. The only way this is going to happen is if we have some help. Fabs is helping. Refill is helping. Even Karsh has volunteered. I want more people than that. I want a decent size contributing staff to help keep the site updated before I even put a site UP.
Responsibilities for each member of staff will be pretty simple:
Contribute a Minimum of 3 news stories per week.
Write Reviews as they are assigned/are available and be willing to volunteer for ones on new games you acquire.
Be around to help. Be Dedicated to keeping AllRPG alive. Don't be lazy.
That's literally all of it. We'll provide the lists of News sites and all you'll have to do is make sure the news gets reported and reviews get written. If you spot an interesting story, make sure it's not in the queue. If it is, great. Find something else. If it's not, write it. Formats will be provided.
There is also space for editorials, and general new content of all kinds. We're gonna open this up. There will be Administrative Staff(which is mostly me and Blue), Staff(The majority of news and reviews writers) and Contributors(Which is what we'll term people who contribute the odd article or review for fun).
So we leave it to you, AllRPG. If I get a few more "Yes!" answers from people, we'll get to work.
So far the people involved are:
Me, Refill, Blue, Fabs, Karsh, Verm(Yes, that Verm), Serge.
Can I get a few more Yes! answers please?

I wrote reviews for the site in the past. Since I keep up with a lot of news sites anyway, I doubt it would be hard to post what I find over here. Count me in if you want.

I plan on writing reviews for the weekend Steam deals and giving my opinion if I think they're worth it or not, maybe a small review if possible given the short time the deals are available for.

I can write reviews for games that I've played. It's just that I haven't really played any games in a while.
Would it be okay if I wrote reviews from old games and not current?
twerp: Sounds good.
DK: We'll need some reviews for older games too, since we lost everything when Matt fucked us over. Fabs has SOME of the backups but not most of them, so we may luck out a little. I assume you'd still be willing to do news as well?

Sure. I'll give it a go.
Just keep in mind that I don't play many games anymore aside from the fighting game here and there. I do have a vast recollection of games past, however.

Oh, how I wish I could dedicate the time to this... but I can't be positive enough that I'll have the time necessary in order to commit v_v
Have you considered doing a section on import-only games? There's a plethora of RPG's for the DS here in Japan that haven't been released anywhere else. Like I said, I can't commit to anything, but I could potentially do some sort of impressions article or a light review on what I have played sometime in the future if there's appropriate interest.
I would be very happy to see the site return. But we don't have most of our old reviews anymore? :( I'm pretty sure I lost all of the ones I wrote back in the day when my old computer died, so if those aren't among the lucky few to be saved by Fabs, I think they're done for good :\

I would be able to write some reviews here and there. Unfortunately I know when the semester starts up in a couple weeks, I wouldn't be able to commit to anything more than that.
Alright let me clear up one quick thing:
If you can only write the occasional review or something(basically, if you can contribute one or two things a month) that makes you a contributing writer as opposed to staff. And that's fine. We appreciate the help. Your work will be used too.
However, after DK, Ges and Twerp, I'd like at least ONE more person(preferably 2 or 3) to handle the day to day news stuff and such. So can I get at least one or two of you out there? If so, and everyone does what they say they will, we should be set to go.

I'm on the same boat as Cool Otaku. I can contribute here and there, but no way I can promise to be consistent.

Yeah I don't see that happening. And as for your "writin ability", by your own use of that simple phrase and total lack of grammar, capitalization and punctuation, it's already called into question.

..not good enough? Wait.. you expect me to actually do something?!
Huh? Me do something constructive? Hmm.. there is a possibility of this. I might have to equip myself properly.. this sounds rather dangerous. What happens when you do something on the internet thats not playing video games or chatting.. do I like.. level up or something? Or is this one of those skill based crap that seems to grow but you actually lose something somewhere else!
It does have some appeal to it.. especially if the focus is taken away from a forum! I mean.. I have to go scrub myself over and over while rocking back and forth in the bottom of my shower crying CLEEEEEAN CLEEEEAN just for making this post.
I've been here and there the last 2 weeks and without internet for most of it. I'll give a better answer when I get back.. thats if I don't catch swine flu or whatever its called. All my roommates at home have the damned thing. Admiral Ackbar knows what's become of my home.

I will still stay active on the forums, but with getting my Ed degree this year I will not have the chance to write for the site until late April.

Similarly in the same boat as FreeFlow- I'm trying to pick up an additional two minors plus qualifications in GIS plus my internship and job before graduating in May. I can contribute but it will be more international news commentary/national politics/environmental stuff since it's what I'm thinking about for school anyway.
I would do 3 articles a week if I could but I just don't see it happening.
I have plenty of time to contribute. Just give me a estimate of what needs to be done. My new job has alot of downtime.
