Has anyone here ever played a MUD. They were pretty much the first mmorpg's that ever existed. Yet they were all text based. No graphics, and no paying. Usually played through a java client or telnet. God I miss those days.

I use to play one called MUME which was based off of middle earth from Lord of the Rings. The best pvp game I have ever played. It was intense. If you died you lost all your gear and money and perhaps a level. But when you killed someone, you got all their gear and gold. Ahhhhhh, the glory days of online rpgs. Now all we have is wow, where if the other side kills you, you have to wait five seconds to respawn.

What happened to the BLOOD, the hard work that you lost when you died? Where half the time when you did die, you screamed and gave the game up for a couple days. But the rush. Dear god the rush was excellent.

I was huge into MUD's back in the day, sadly I found that they existed just a few months prior to their quick decline. I spent most of my time playing one named: "Necromium", and believe it or not it still exists. http://www.necromium.com/index.php

Other than that I remember various DBZ based MUD's as well as something I remember named "Aardvark" or something like that.

Either way, MUD's were fantastic.

Massive database of all types of muds. Are you speaking of Aardwolf? I could never imagine playing a DBZ mud. What would the premise be for exploring and killing mobs?

Yes! AardWolf!

lol the DBZ muds wasn't really role playing at all or anything. It was just, go out, blast stuff and increase your powerlevel / ki. Got boring real quick.

I'll have to check out these!

MUME ("http://www.mume.org) is one of the best muds I have ever found. If you at all interested you should check it out. The population is down pretty low I think like 40-50people play regularly but it is still quite fun. Where as Aardwolf has about 300 people on, on a slow day.
