So this thread is dedicated to those sleeper games that few people get around to playing. I thought it might be nice to posters to get some more information on a variety of titles. It can be for any genre and console. Just try and suggest a game that perhaps few people have played or heard of.

I'm going to start with one, I could name probably hundreds though, It's

Twisted tales of Spike Mcfang

It's an old SNES game that is an Action RPG. It's pretty old and a little hard to come by but it can be found if you scrounge around for it. Kind of a hidden gem that few people know about or probably heard of.

Rez
A little more well known game that was recently released for Xbox Live, which is why I'll bring it up. It's a trippy shooter on rails that has fantastic music and visuals. It's worth the download price and shouldn't disappoint if you are fan o f shooters or eye candy.

What's a sleeper game? Make you fall asleep when you are playing it?

Basically underrated. Like Legend of Legaia, Threads of Fate and Saga Frontier 2. I can name a few more but I don't think enix games were all sleeper hits.

Indigo Prophecy/Farenheit

Great unique game. Its sort of an interactive movie but its really truly fun. The story sort of tails off around the middle of the game but the overall experience its one of a kind and I wished there were more games like it. Basically the way you control your character besides the usual third person perspective, is through live events where you need to press a certain button or combination of the sticks to execute a move. You can find it for ps2, xbox and pc, if I am not mistaken. I got the ps2 european version, it has strip tease.

Raw Danger. Bargain bin PS2 adventure game with multiple story paths, endings, and some actual role playing! Amazing! It's centered around a natural disaster hitting a town, and you play as different characters whose stories intertwine as they try to escape the city/take care of personal business. Excellent game.

I will have to go with the same. I don't see why people didn't like it.

Fahrenheit is possibly among the worst of the sleeper games. The developer turned among best beginning sequences ever devised into a convoluted diatribe (and matrix knockoff) that would make Hideo Kojima go "Wtf?" Also, action cut scene sequences are annoying when you have 2 huge circles blocking the screen.

Beyond Good and Evil:

Directed by the same guy who did the rayman series, BG&E offers a compelling story, semi decent combat, and a much better companion system than games like LoZ: Wind Waker.

You can get it off steam for 9.99 too: http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=app&AppId=15130&cc=US

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem:

Most of my arguments for BG&E would fit here as well. It has a great story, neat sanity effects (albeit gimmicky), and certainly some thrilling moments.

Psychonauts:

For a guy who's been making point and click adventure games for a decade, Psychonauts is Tim Schafer's answer to the surge of platformers that came from the PS2/Xbox/cube generation. The game is about a mentally gifted child named Raz who sneaks into a camp for other mentally gifted children.

Also on steam, but not as cheap: http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=app&AppId=3830&cc=US

Audiosurf:

In some circles, this is really popular, in others not so much. Essentially the game is a mixture of F-Zero, Blocks, and a shitton of music games. Unlike many music games, you use your collection of MP3s. The game builds tracks based on the MP3s that lets you play off them. It features a leaderboard that let's you compare your scores to others around the world and friends. The replay value is solely dependant on the size of your music folder.

9.99 off steam: http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=app&AppId=12900&cc=US

Free demo: http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=app&AppId=12910&cc=US

It has dawned to me that Farenheit is not a balanced game in the reaction department. You either really liked the game, or you hate it.

BGaE is a good pick.

Rogue Galaxy

One thing for sure, the cut scenes in this game are good. Yet to complete it, still in the Jungle world. Ok, the frog synthesis idea was silly.

Indigo Prophecy/Farenheit

Hmm.. sounds interesting. I'll look for it, my friend probably have it since he likes FPS genre.

Basically underrated.

Thanks for the clarification there.

Adventure game like The Longest Journey, or more accurately, its sequel Dreamfall.

Whatever this is, you sure make it sound good. Will pick up if discovered.

Is Eternal Darkness really a sleeper? I mean, I think most people who have the GC have played it and remember it quite well. Even if only by word of mouth, I think it's relatively well known.

As for Indigo Prophecy, I have to agree that it was quite good. I enjoyed the dialogue and characterization of the game. The setting is really interesting and plays out well. Nice amount of in game freedom too.

Super Dodge Ball was a sleeper?

I pretty much remember all my block and school friends totally dying for that game.

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam. Kind of best of both worlds game to me. One of the best Gundam games I've ever played, and the action is pretty nonstop.

Is Jedi Outcast a sleeper?

Sushi_b

I would have to agree that Dodgeball is pretty unknown. I can't recall that many people who would know that game and would probably think I was refering to the movie. I don't think many people even know that there was an update just released on the DS a few weeks ago. It's such a classic game that goes well with the likes of River City Ransom.

Klonoa is pretty good, the only one I've played was the one for the GBA (First one).

Gradius series as a whole, as with most Shmup's as pretty much all sleepers. From R-type to Raiden. They used to be less so when arcades were more prominent.

Bombastic isn't too bad. I've got that one but I forgot about it because I haven't played it in quiet some time.

The Red Star was never "Officially" released because Acclaim went under just before it could be. :p

I <3 Rez. I play it every once in a while just to listen to the soundtrack. Stage 5's music by Adam Freeland is just awesome. Fear is the mind killer!

I would recommend the PS1 and PS2 versions if you can find them, they're far better in most every way. The GBA ones are more puzzle-oriented (not that that's a bad thing).

Yeah, no kidding. But I listed Gradius V because it's most recent, and because it slowly garnered more appreciation over time, unlike most modern shmups.

Bombastic isn't too bad. I've got that one but I forgot about it because I haven't played it in quiet some time.
I actually haven't played Bombtastic, but I have played the prequel, Devil Dice, which is one of my favorite puzzle games. I really should try finding the game.[/quote]

Actually, no. I have a copy. It was released under a different publisher, but due to legal reasons it was a bit stripped down (no cut scenes). It totally went under the radar, though, and it was a bit hard to find even right after it came out.

Cool, I know that the PS1 game is quite difficult to get a copy of and that's why I haven't played it. PS2 not as hard to find. Seems like a pretty fun game series overall.

I know you and Vic Viper go a long way back together. I'm still looking into Gradius V because I didn't have the money to pick it up but I probably will, that and R-type Final.

I haven't played DD, but they seem pretty much the same. Unique games.

I had no idea that the game was ever actually released. I've wanted to play it because it's supposed to be a great Contra style run and gun game. I'll have to see if I can find a copy now that I know it's actually out there. You and Phak are lucky!
