So mine should be in the mail soon. Yes, I imported soul silver from the US, even though the games are going to be released in the UK 12 days from now. I expect it to be here later today or tomorrow. I can't wait.

SO! For those who don't know Pokemon Gold/Silver were the second games in the pokemon series and the last pokemon game to be released for the GB/GB C. The release of this game for the DS means ever single pokemon game is now playable on the NDS, seeing as GBA games can be played on the NDS. So you can see how momentous this is for a fanboy such as me(and yes, I'm aware it's unhealthy).

So is anyone getting this? I figured if a few people did we could have a sort of tourney over Wi-Fi.

I would but I've poured too much time into Diamond, and I really don't want to start over just to play a game I played back in 10th grade. I won't play a new one until a brand new one comes out.

BUT THE POKAMANS FOLLOW YOU!!!

I like replaying pokemon games. After getting Pearl I got Diamond and then Platinum just to replay the game and swap pokemnn around, whatever. I mean I have all these pokemon now and my dex is pretty much complete except for the unobtainable. I don't really need to become a "master". But gold and silver were definitely my favourite in the series thus far.

And my game is not here yet D: UPS says tomorrow morning now.

I've always really enjoyed Pokemon, but I doubt I'll play this one. Firered and Leafgreen were totally worth it, but I can't justify spending the money on a name game right now. If I had the spare cash, I totally would. My DS needs the activity!

People still play Pokemon?

:)

Seriously though, I loved red/blue/yellow with a passion but I never played anything beyond. The original 150 was all I needed.

Oddly pokemon stuck with me ever since I saw the first episode on TV when I was around 9 or 10. I remember I was the same age as Ash. We connected, ya know?

I don't watch the series anymore, I find the characters VERY annoying and Ash haven't grown an inch, it's just not realistic, he's like the new Bart and Lisa Simpson. And he's been through some many hoes it's unbelievable, I wouldn't be surprised if pokemon are not the only thing he's catching(starts with S and ends with D).

But one thing still remains, from the moment pokemon came out to now, it's an exceptional RPG. No doubt about it.

Idk why I never continued on with the series. I loved red/blue/yellow, the anime, the movies, even the card game. I was all about Pokemon. But as soon as gold/silver came out my interest died instantly.

Im not sure why that happened. If I had to guess I would say it was the simple fact that I loved the original 150 and I didnt want to see that change. And I spent so many hours catching all those bastards. I didnt really want to go through that again. Maybe Im missing out but I always had the feeling that it was a one time thing for me. I was never confident in the newer games ability to recapture the magic of the original games.

Now if Nintendo ever wakes up and makes a full blown Pokemon rpg on consoles I would totally buy it.

What do you mean by that? I mean the DS series are as good as I can imagine them to be.

I never meant to imply that the handheld games arent good or anything. But its no secret that fans have been begging Nintendo for a real console version over the past 12 years. I was one of them. Id still like to see it happen and Im sure it would sell like crazy.

I wouldnt expect a huge change in gameplay but the graphical improvement alone would be worth it to me.

It just bothers me that Nintendo never made that leap. Im not saying they should stop making Pokemon on handhelds but come on... They have to know how successful a real Pokemon rpg would be on the Wii so why not?

I didn't realise what you meant by "real console". I guess you want something with up to date graphics. Not really important to me, but you know what they say about different folks.

And in case you didn't hear about it:
Podemon XD (http://uk.gamespot.com/gamecube/rpg/pokemongc/index.html?tag=result;title;5) on the GC, it didn't sell.

But I understand what you mean. And if I still played on TV consoles I would love to play it. What I probably wouldn't like would be if they made it a free for all MMO. Maybe a host game/co-op type game would be good.

...Im now baffled as to how the thought of a Pokemon MMO never crossed my mind. If there ever was an IP that could be successful in the genre its Pokemon. The whole concept of Pokemon suits itself to being an MMO. It would never happen though. If it did it would be on the Wii and Im not interested in playing an MMO on any console.

Nintendo doesnt really have any experience with online games so Im not confident in their ability to pull it off anyway. If it was done right and it was released on PC I think I would have to try it out though. Im willing to bet the IP could stand up to WoW. Not dethrone it but I wouldnt be surprised if a Pokemon MMO was able to sustain a community of a few million players.

God dammit. All this talk about Pokemon has me wanting to play it now.

Obviously if I did get back into it Id probably pick up Fire Red/Leaf Green.

I think the game would definitely work as an MMO if it were in the style of Diablo 2 or phantasy star. Infact phantasy star zero for the DS is a working MMO. Although it's got the drawback of not being able to communicate with other people.

However with the new DS games you can battle other people on the internet and trade pokemon. The problem with making the game an MMO is that pokemon is a bit of a second life. It's your journey and even though the dialogue of the game can be childish, you have to be in a certain mind set for the experience of playing the game to be just right. I fear that making the game an MMO like, say WOW, would take away the "in the world-ness" that is crucial to pokemon.

Edit: I just got my soul silver in the mail. I'm really itching to play it. But I've got my deadlines this thursday. DO YOU KNOW HOW PAINFUL THIS IS?!

I've been playing HeartGold in Japanese for a couple weeks now, just kinda here and there. It's... a lot like Platinum. The graphics are like Platinum. It really looks almost exactly like Platinum (not a good thing in my opinion). But somehow, Pokemon is just entertaining. I've played for about 10 hours or so, and while I'm obviously not addicted, I can see its appeal, ya know?

Best part of the game? Your Pokemon in the first slot follows you around. Sentret is fucking adorable. And Onix and scary as shit haha

Let me re-quote myself for accuracy.

My girlfriend went and got Soul Silver and since I've never had the opportunity to play a Pokemon game with along with someone since blue/red I decided to pick up Heart Gold.

It's a lot like how I remember it, awesome. Already at the 4th Gym and my team is in the mid 20's as far as lvl goes.

Yeah, I constantly feel nostalgic when I play it. I'm still on the 3rd gym.
