Okay, so...

You all know my abhorrence for anime. Well, I had a friend recently coax me into watching the Ghost in the Shell series. It's not bad. I'm only halfway through the first season, but so far I have been pleasantly surprised. The Major is one of the few female characters worth a hoot and, for some reason, it reminds me of the MGS series (must be the mullets.)

Anyone else watch this?

It's been a while since I've seen it, but it's definitely one of the better anime series out there.

You should also check out Cowboy Bebop if you haven't done so already. You might be pleasantly surprised again.

I've watched both seasons and the movie. Plus I have the first two Ghost in the Shell films on Blu-Ray. Guess that makes me a fan alright. The films are certainly worth seeing although the Major plays but a minor role in the second.

Thinking of anime with strong female leads, Paprika springs to mind. Has a great soundtrack and it looks great to boot.

And if you like Paprika be sure to check out some of Satoshi Kon's other works: Tokyo Godfathers, Millennium Actress, Perfect Blue and Paranoia Agent.

And for a strong female lead, I'd also recommend Ergo Proxy. It's got a similar sci-fi cyberpunk vibe to Ghost in the Shell.

I will never understand why Ghost in the Shell is so popular... Even back in the day when I was really into anime, I just couldn't get into it at all.

I don't get it :\

The movie is very good. Though I must admit, the series I find dull. Guess I'm weird.

Shit. Just give me some Samurai 7, Mushi-shi, and Samurai Champloo and I'm gold.

However, I am trying to find a new, original series to get into. Along the lines of the three I just mentioned, does anyone have some recommendations? Figured I would ask here so I don't have to create a whole new thread. But if replies are sparse, I just might have to.

You might like Peacemaker (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=2763) and The Twelve Kingdoms (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=840).

Also, if you visit www.animenewsnetwork.com and search for an anime, you can then do a search for additional anime with similar genres and themes.

Peacemaker looks good. I read the little description of it. Kinda seems like one of those become what you hate so you can defeat the enemy type of storylines. I know there's a good example, but I just can't put my finger on it.

GiTS is a great series. I love the first movie and the two tv series. The series has great action, but for some people they may find it boring because you have episodes with little action. Lots of interaction and techno-babble. Motoko Kusanagi kicks major butt. Good story too.
Black Lagoon has a strong female character.

I stopped watching Stand Alone Complex halfway through. Wasn't bad, but I lost interest. The two films are superb, however. The first, especially.
