So what have all you scum suckers been up to lately? Slacking off, that's what. I still play this game a few hours every other day at least. I've been encountering some RIDICULOUSLY skilled players on other boards. The Brawl crowd has matured, and it even seems like character tiers are starting to hold some ground amongst competitive play.

Oh, and yes we need to get another tournie going soon.

That's about 11pm to 10am PST. I'm generally on around midnight anyways, so I guess that works, if you're a morning bird that is.

The best way to learn is to have your own ass handed to you on a spotless golden plate. It's been happening to me a lot lately, but it's also helping me get better. I'm so competitive that losing just pisses me off. So I force myself to correct my mistakes.

I've been playing a lot recently. People from Smashboards are pretty skilled. Some certainly give me a run for my money. We should set up some games sometime this week, because I should be moving again soon and I might be without internet for some time.

Still don't have high speed internet, so I've been brawling my girlfriend and sister. I think my girlfriend was secretly training with Marth, she actually does fairly well with him and I didn't give her any advice! My sister uses Snake and just kills everyone with his f-tilt (CHEAP!) Hopefully in about 2 weeks I'll be back to brawling online, so practice up!

I have been trying to get better for the last two days, I'm brushing up on my dodging.

Your progress is steady, Em. The thing you really need to work on is approach and avoiding damage.

Like I always say, the main thing is to remain unpredictable. And learn which moves have the best priority at particular ranges.

I just got really pissed off last weekend. We had a 12 people tourney (about only 8 of those people owned the game) and when I made it to the semifinals this guy using Marth beat the crap out of my Kirby, it was frustrating especially because he could predict my every move. I went back home and tried using Marth to see if I could find something out and realized that Marth reacts really fast compared to most of the other characters. So now I just need to find a way to use Kirby to my advantage, one of the things I've found to be most effective so far is Kirby's B-up, since you don't expect it to go so far, it usually never misses.

Marth can be a beast when in the right hands. He's fast, strong, has range, a detached hitbox on his moves, and he can't be edgehogged....seriously don't try it...unless you can time during the end animation of his up B, don't do it. You'll just get stage spiked.

Plenty of higher-competition Kirby players I've seen have used his up-B as a projectile, so long as they were sure that their opponent couldn't do anything to punish. Personally, I say throw it out there on occasion, and if your opponent does nothing about it, wonderful. But, if you get punished even once, then just know that your ass is on the line after that.

I don't have a Wii but continuously kicked the guy I was seeing's ass the first few times I played. Kirby ftw.

Personally, I say throw it out there on occasion, and if your opponent does nothing about it, wonderful. But, if you get punished even once, then just know that your ass is on the line after that.

Yeah the B up does have a long recovery period. What I'm very used to doing with Kirby is using his B-down in mid air, however it's a risk to use it especially against good aerial attackers like Falco because it can be easily stopped. I'm in love with Kirby's side smash.

The Down-B is fine, but it's easy to see coming. If someone sees Kirby above them, they usually have an idea what he's going to try. A better option in most situations would be to do his d-air. It's safer and has multiple hits, which some people have a harder time blocking.

Also, be careful with that side-smash. If you miss, it's punish city.

You'd be surprised how many people actually fall for it. It's like they try to beat the transformation lag, which happens sometimes, but I've pulled off some wins with that thing. What I like to do is a Rock drop fake to rock drop. Basic Kirby tech, just do a rock drop, cancel it, then do another one. Some people just never see it coming. His side smash is quite godly and can be comboed into on some of the heavier character after a Down Air or a close up Up B.

Not saying not to use the moves. Just saying that they have flaws. Some characters, such as Marth, can punish the shit out of Kirby for missing either of those moves.

Marth can punish mostly anything short range range characters dish out. He's beast like that.

I've been messing around with Kirby a ton lately. I like to use his Up-B and pull back a little and use it as a projetile. Also been using Sheik a little here and there for fun, especially after I saw what BlackDragon did to me one day. Have to say my favorites are Meta, Marth, Lucario, Kirby and Zelda.

Just buy the LAN adapter. Unless you have a top notch N router, the LAN adapter is pretty much gauranteed to minimize your lag in a way that wireless just cannot compete with.

Ok I've just flat out come to the conclusion that I suck at this game now. Every single person I connect with on various Brawl forums seems like a goddamn pro. They've all got chain attacking and combos down to a science and they execute it with ease. I can play for hours and feel like I never have the upper hand despite winning a fair number of matches. It's so frustrating, are there no mid-range players out there anymore? Good lord. Pokemon Trainer seems to be the new crack as well. Everyone's spamming Squirtle's absurb speed, hangtime, power and overall cheapness.

I've played quite a few people from Smashboards and I must say they play at a whole 'nother level. Though I never get flatout destroyed and get my fair share of wins unless I encounter that awesome Metaknight or Olimar player who unleashes all their cheapness upon me.

We all should play more often. Lodis, Zeal has been looking for different people to play, get your ass on AIM.

Bowser is turning into a new favourite of mine. He's just fun to play as. His size and girth makes him an easy target for just about anything, so it always puts you on edge, but he's tough to kill.

Unless the user is me and you happen to kill yourself with cultish precision.....

Bowser is pretty fun, his f-smash when it hits twice does massive damage, killed a Yoshi at 50%. I've found myself using Mario and Luigi quite a bit more lately, more so Luigi.

Meh, Bowser is powerful but not to the borderline cheap ass level that Ike is at. Ike can kill you at like 30% with ease on even moderately sized stages. It's so ridiculous. More so ridiculous are both Snake's and Ike's standing A-button combos. Both can kill very easily at moderate or high percentages. Quite simply I think the developers were insane to do this. You should NOT be able to KO your opponent by simply tapping the goddamn A button.

I agree. Even with the obvious advantages I refuse to use them in brawls. I want challenge.

Don't think of it that way. That's a bad line of thinking that will, in my opinion, create a mental handicap. Whenever you get beaten by someone using Ike or Snake, you'll blame it on the character. Furthermore, it can cause you to constantly lose to something you don't know how to fight. Part of the reason I began using Toon Link was to learn how to fight him.

I've been using Snake to figure out how to become a "Snake Eater." I agree with the A, A, A combo easily killing just about everyone, it is way too easy, but I think it is exceptable in Ike's case since you have a chance to retaliate or run away during certain points in that combo depending on your damage and floatiness. Snake on the other hand is a pain, those hits are fast and above all strong.

Edit: Just had some brawls with Tala and Contagion. They picked the gayest stages imaginable, haha. Green Greens, Hanebow, Pork City. Pretty much any stage I have turned off. Fun games though. They're getting better.
