It does not accomplish anything. Its quite pointless, in fact it does the opposite, it takes my money and my time and makes me unhealthy. Makes me block everything bad out, makes me a addict to something that is ridiculous. And yet where can I find the strength to quit smoking. I truley don't want to die of cancer and yet I really don't know where to find the strength. I hate having yellow teeth and bad breath, I hate spending all my money on cigarettes. Over 100 dollars a month. I hate having my car smell like cigarettes, yet I can't find the strength. I will go a week and then get into a terrible and horrible depression. I just need help trying to find that strength.

You have my full backing on this. I've helped several people quit smoking/drugs.

Don't quit before we hangout.

Yes. Quit before then. Quit immediately. Health > smoking with Atlas.

Yep. That was your first test.

Passing grade.

---------------------------------

My advice:

Make a heartfelt decision to quit. Make it spiritually, intellectually, and emotionally driven. Your goal is to not smoke.

Find a center within yourself and make sure you agree that you want to actually quit. Do not use the patch. Don't use gum. These faculties will just prolong the stubbornness that is smoking addiction. Set a date to quit. A date that is soon. Throw whatever you have away. And there you go.

Yeah... ok.

I don't know what people go through when they want to stop smoking. I've never smoked. I can only say I've witnessed 2 people stop smoking: my mom and my grandmother, And it was literally a case of waking up one day and deciding they weren't going to smoke anymore. They haven't smoked since. They didn't use gum or patches. They just stopped completely.

That's how I did it.

I quit for two years. Ironically I began smoking again mostly due to the stress that came from my mom getting lung cancer last year and almost passing away.

And yes, sometimes I do feel stupid because of this.

My problem is I have a hard time not thinking about it. If I could stop thinking about cigarettes it would be nice. I'm going to set a date and keep trying. Last time I used Oranges. Next month I'm going to the doctor maybe I can get the pill for it, maybe not.

I just feel like its time to stop. It does nothing for me, its a social thing when i'm around other people I light up. But I'm insecure without it. Time to just realize that it is worthless and a waste of time, money, and health. God I want to smell and taste things again.

You want to think about it or at least I did. I wanted that constant craving. Without it I became clumsy and the possibility of slipping up, ironically, seemed more possible.

And that's good, Elon. If you feel like you truly need to stop, then do it.

I never got addicted to it. So I don't really know how I can help you with this.

Just don't do it?

My dad quit cold turkey. For what it's worth, he substituted the habit with the gym.

My experience is mostly second hand.

I developed the habit in the military, it was quite the craze. Kinda dumb but whatever.

I smoked for about a month, and gradually worked my way back down to not smoking at all. (smoking half a cigarette and throwing it out, etc..)

I've seen a lot of people try to quit and I've taken notes of what not to do if I ever become a smoker and want to quit:

-saying you will quit soon.
-allowing people to smoke in your presence.
-going places that cell cigarettes.
-drinking.

And of course, the most drastic step would be to destroy any picture ID. Of course, some places don't ask for ID anyway and you'll have to give up your ability to drive. But hey, what's more important to you? Your ability to drive, or living a long healthy life?

That's great that you decided to point that out. Remind me to take notes on how to be like you when I start caring what you think.

Wow. I made a very simple joke expecting you to act like, oh I don't know, an adult about it and instead you....act like Atlas. Should have seen that coming. Oh well..

My mistake. I thought you were trying to start something. It can be hard to tell the intent of what people say on here, at times.

No big deal. :)

I worked on a house the other day where the old couple living there smoked. Inside. All day long. It cut my eyes and all my clothes reaked! Don't get me wrong though; I don't mind the odd cigarette or if somebody smokes around me. To an extent. But chain smokers, people who need to smoke all day everyday have never made sense to me. It's disgusting really.

Quit if you can, buddy. If you can't, you're a pussy with no will power. ;)
