View Full Version : Okays
I intend to do as I said a few months ago and try and get us a main site. My question, of course, is...who's in?
Anyone who's interested in doing anything, drop me a line. Reviews / Previews / Editorials / Coding / Imaging / News / whatever. If you have any ideas I'd love to hear them as well.
I am going on vacation starting tomorrow, but I'll have internet access, albeit limited, for about a week or so.
Anything is appreciated, Blue.
I know a few of you guys mentioned you'd like to in the earlier thread, so I'll try and get a hold of you some of you folks as well.

I could help with some of the site graphics, though I'm no web designer. Logos are kind of my thing...I actually drew some up awhile back for fun. I don't know if I still have them unfortunately.
I'm pretty useless otherwise. I don't have the patience for or investment in gaming so much these days for anything else, I'm sorry to say.
I can write the occasional review. I was about to submit one for FFXIII, but the site got shut down right after I finished it, hehe.
That would be great, both of you.
For the direction I am leaning towards, I'd really like a small stable of editorial writers more than anything. We need any prospective readers to begin to like our reviewers (or writers in general) before they take our recommendations with a grain of salt.
So basically, to those of you wanting to do reviews, would doing perhaps a monthly, themed editorial be something you'd mind doing?
[/lurking] Any thought on what direction you want to take the site? Do you want to keep the name AllRPG? Or perhaps just use the www.allrpg.com URL to point to another site?
Personally, I have very little interest in video games or RPGs at this point in time. If the site covered other topics though, I'd be willing to do something.
EDIT: Also if you want an idea for a format... I've always felt that AllRPG - as a news site - could benefit by using the same format that newsarama.com uses. I noticed in a previous post you mentioned that implementing forums with the main site was something you wanted to do... newsarama probably does that better than any other independent site out there.

It could be a blog that we all are allowed to add our own "news" to. But then it shouldn't be called Allrpg.

I am interested, and willing to do a variety of things as my schedule permits. Interested people, I encourage you to participate. People who commit and then don't do shit, I will fuck you up.

The Varsh would like to possibly do some reviews. As with Blue, The Varsh can't commit to anything too regular at the moment. But he would love to get involved. The only question is...would he get to keep his third person speech!!?!?!?!

I can be comical.
Thanks for the ideas and such, guys. I will follow up with those of you that want to contribute individually a little later and then we'll see if we can't see some kind of ball rolling on this.
See Ges, I know you're getting a lot of "I'd like to help, but I can't do it all the time" answers and that's exactly the problem: You don't know what you're stepping into here.
I'm willing to help you out and do what I can, but I'm not going to do it if people don't stay true to their word here, just like Blue. I WANT AllRPG to live again in some form but unless people stop saying "I'll help" and actually do it, it's not gonna happen.
So with that being said...
I'll help, if people actually show up. And no, it won't be an every day thing, but I'll do what I can in the midst of an already hectic schedule.

I completely agree with you. Due to indifference, I believe that AllRPG has run it's course.
Which is why I'd suggest creating a brand new site, with a new concept. If it takes off THEN you can think about using the AllRPG brand name to point to that site.
And like I said earlier, if you create a site which covers topics that interest me, I will contribute.
You don't have to only look through the AllRPG constituency to find able bodies.
I am fully committed to doing all I have to with (or without) a small amount of help until other people can be found, at which point we will grow. Not before. This is going to be grassroots stuff to start. I know we can't pull an AllRPG from even 2 years ago, so I'm not trying to. If we try that we will fail like the last 4 or 5 attempts have. We don't need to worry about anything as far as traffic because the bottom line is that - aside from the forums - we will have none. There is no unveiling of a new site or talk of a "new" allrpg being a selling point- because anyone who stumbles onto the site won't care. We are starting from scratch. I'm going to try and make something a new visitor will enjoy reading. I know plenty of 1 man shows that have done just that. That is how we will begin. So, at this point, I think things are looking just peachy. Anything - and anyone - else is pure gravy.
I don't know why some of you keep trying to say bringing back the old AllRPG won't work. I'm not trying to bring back the old AllRPG. We might grow in a few years, or we might stay a niche little site with a modicum of visitors. It doesn't matter either way for me. I'll measure success from absolute freaking zero. That's what we have right now. I'm not measuring against the AllRPG of the past or Kotaku or Destructoid or any of that. Anything, even something akin to a small blog about RPGs, is a step forward and is better than nothing. I do not expect this endeavor to even bring us back to a level even like 2005 AllRPG for a good while. We've lost too much traffic since then by not having anything there to think they'll just come back. We need to stop expecting that kind of a reception, because we won't get it.
Now, being as nominally versed in actual website creation as I am, I would like some help. I remember the total head count from '05 or '06 (when PM was heading the staff, I believe) being around 10 people. We don't need a lot to have a stable, daily updated main site. We aren't going to need that many to begin anyway. I need maybe 3 or 4 dedicated people, that's it. They don't even have to be from the forums. There are people out there who want to write and enjoy the subject matter, and that's all you need. I have a few willing to help along in varying capacities. I think we're right on track. You just need a writer or two and a decent looking site and you're set.
That...and a coder - which will come from the forums, outside the forums, or me studying up.
Hyde, I would love your help on that side of things if you are offering. Something akin to a speed course on what you think I would need and how I go about getting/using it and what I need to do as far as all the FTP stuff.

I think it could work as long as we take a long hard look at what exactly it is that we want to do with the site before we get started doing any of the actual content. But we'll worry about that when the time comes to sit down and talk about all of this stuff.

I'm currently about to be starting a new job and I'm in the process of buying a house, but once all of that settles down I'll check back to see where this is going and if I can contribute somehow.
Okay, time to move this on ahead.
Planning on having a "meeting" on Saturday on IRC. I will PM all who have shown interest.
