What's your feeling about trash talk? Especially in Sports?
I've been interested in MMA for some time and I've seen a fair number of trash talkers in various sports. From Tyson to Ali, there is always someone willing to mix the pot.
Chael Sonnen is nothing new to this type of hyping, but maybe some of his comments have been. Nothing is sacred, from One legged Canadians, to Math teachers from Ohio, to Lance Armstrong getting cancer.

Are there any people that you think are good trash talkers? Does it bother you or make you hate that person even more?

I don't like trash talking. I prefer people that back up whatever they claim to do with actions..not words. Trash talking is tired and childish.

Trash talking is pretty retarded unless there's good reason for the trash talking.

In sports it can be useful to try and motivate people to buy or watch a show. It can also be used as a weapon to distract your opponent in some sort of match up.
I think it can be useful and it can be funny at times, but it really depends on the fine line of being disrespectful or distracting.
I agree with Sushi, it has it's place. Yet many people seem to abuse it most of the time.

I can't stand people who do so and I have to admit that they anger me to the extent I want to slap them across the face.

Most people who trash talk are either drunk or stupid, and 90% of the time they can't back up what they say.
At least that is how I've seen it.
I think sports is another category, it is definitely helpful in certain situations. From your average kids T-Ball game to the Super Bowl. Some people just can't handle shit talking under pressure.

Le gasp! I have been discovered!
in sports its gunna happen. I tend to ignore it.
same thing in everyday life. every once in a while though the trash talking will unfold and stuff just happens. the last time I got in a trash talking argument, well the person I was in the argument with is now currently my girlfriend for almost 2 months now. and we are extremely happy together. :)
so trash talking is not always a bad thing.

I don't know if I'd include what the MMA fighter did as trash talking. There's a pretty distinct place in competitive sports for egging your competitor on but there are still fairly agreed upon boundaries even if they aren't codified -- moreso between players than between players and fans. "Pitcher's got a big butt" in little league is leaps and bounds beyond "Your cancer is the direct result of alleged substance abuse" with the direct intent of gaining press. These guys are still professionals, by which I mean they are paid (and usually sponsored) to perform a specific entertainment function and with that is going to come a lot more consequences if you go "too far."

I don't like trash talking but I have been tempted to cuss out people on xbl who are on my team being stupid.
