View Full Version : Reporters in Locker room's.

Why are women reporter's in a male locker room? Why not just have male reporters in a man's locker room and women in a woman's locker room. That makes more sense to me. Who's bright idea was it to have women prancing around in a man's locker room. I don't think I've seen a man hold an interview in a woman's locker room.

Is thread in retaliation to the female reporter that was harassed by players on the NY Jets? I hope not...

There is no retaliation. I just thought it was commonsense to have the same sex in the same locker room or rest room. Of course these professional athletes should show their professionalism, but come on. You would avoid these controversies with just a little sense.

It's a weird coincidence, then, considering the issue has recently come up in the NFL, at least (as LadyAkuma pointed out.)
I can actually see why one would not want opposite sex reporters in the locker room, and I'm really sympathetic to professional athletes who feel that way. I wouldn't want a dude in the locker room while I was changing. To be fair, though, the real coverage for reporters is in men's sports, not women's, and prohibiting female reporters from covering the locker rooms hamstrings them professionally in a way men are not. In a kind of journalism where women are already anomalous (though that's changing), I can see why female reporters would be especially sensitive to this.
It might simply be unfair and that's life, but I don't see why - given that some of these locker rooms are posh as fuck - you can't simply have an area within it where the majority of commentary will take place with either a uniform, towel, or other clothes on.

I don't mind having a hot guy in the woman's locker room at my gym.
Easy solution to the whole damned problem:
Stop allowing reporters in locker rooms. Of either sex. For any reason.
If they have a fucking question or want an interview, they can have some sort of other lounge area for that, or wait til the player gets on the podium as is so common after games nowadays.
As for the reporter in the Jets locker room: It was her own damned fault given the things she was apparently saying and doing in there. Things including the way she was dressing(entirely inappropriate for a professional setting) and some use of a tape measure.
For the record, I hate the Jets.

Sanchez said that the final score is the only statistic that matters, we came up a little short, we got a wake up call, we didn't get the job done, the best team won today, we didn't get the big breaks today and I'm going to have sex with you tonight, so you might as well be there.

Given that other sports adapted a "you must talk to us at a press conference before you end your exhausting day and all you want to do is get home" rule, i don't see the need for locker room press conferences. Especially during a loss, when someone just wants some solace, having to answer questions on why you sucked while near naked can't be fun. How much more exposed do you want to make someone?
I don't believe the argument that "there's way more male sports than women sports" works that well. As though it's true, it doesn't exclude athletes right to privacy, as Liz states.
There's simply no information, no allotted time span of dawning realization that makes the time in the locker room such a fragile and fertile time of information gathering that you couldn't do it from the field (where interviews can easily happen) or after the game (another time where interviews can easily happen).
There can be two wrongs here. I know I'd be uncomfortable if a girl was in a locker room trying to get information, and I would not appreciate it one bit. but if it comes to pass, you don't win the day by being an reprehensible. You try to withdraw yourself as some people may be comfortable with it.
Also, unless she's trying to be a spin doctor, Once again it's shown that the media loves to make a scandal where one is not present
However, the correspondent is now saying her claims were being taken out of proportion. In an interview with Mexican TV station DeporTV Monday, Sainz said she never felt offended and that the whole situation was taken out of context.
"In my opinion, I never felt attacked, nor that they reacted grossly toward me," she said. "I arrived in the locker room, and there were comments and games. One of the other reporters came up to me and apologized for what was happening, but I thought (the players) were joking around." But then again, this thread isn't about this incident, so that might be a moot point.

Indeed. For those who don't know about Ines Sainz:

She's also proof that you don't need a great face as long as your have big breasts, a slim waist, and tight clothing to be attractive.
comment in context as there are claims that she's Mexico's most beautiful reporter.

She's from Latin America--where women give lap dances at children's charity events.

Yeah, man, anyone who wears sexy clothes is just asking for it!
Again... best solution? Keep all reporters out of all locker rooms. They have no legit reason to be in there. I don't give a fuck what their sex is or what sport is being discussed.
But if that woman walked into an American football locker room dressed provocatively, then she was just plain stupid. That isn't the outfit a professional reporter wears. You don't see guys walk around in tightfitting pants and muscle shirts. They wear suits, shirt and tie, or polo shirts.

It's irks me too, but still I understand it.
You're asking for logical responses in a illogical, animalistic world. As much as it sucks, we are still human, and there's still a Predator and Prey mentality with some. You walk out in the jungle with plumage that attracts attention, you're getting eaten.
For almost all of the nineties, when I went to visit my best friend in the Bronx, I could not wear Red or blue. Why? Crip and Bloods wanna-bes started... I guess a splinter cell in that area.
Now, I believe anyone should be able to wear or do whatever they want, but I do also believe in prudence in hostile situations. If I got killed because some Crips caught me wearing Red in their area, a lot of you would be sad... but then probably would ask what the hell was I doing wearing the wrong colors in a hostile area.
The 'she was asking for it with her dress' thing is a lot more sensitive because there aren't 'Hardcore Rapistz' gang areas declared by a group of people. It's like my dad taught me when I was learning how to drive; Proceed with Caution, not with what's right. Meaning just because you're in the right and entitled doesn't mean that other people will respect it. Hell, most people will do whatever they want to best serve their interests. So it's best to safeguard yourself in any way possible.

They are not lap dances, It is called Little Chairs, Zeal, and its fun for the entire family.
Oh and as a person who escapes any type of sporting event on tv or in any other mass communication form, I didnt know this was a reality, I just thought movies liked to make fun of espn. I dont see a problem, and also, probably players enjoy and are eager to talk to the sole woman in the locker room other than a dude with a plastic haircut and a tie thats way too loud to exist. Just saying.
And mostly guys watch sports, and they like to see chicks on tv, and these days dont they have a bunch of female reporters that fake liking sports anyway? Why is this a problem again?

first off she didn't have to go into the male locker room, second off it is a bunch of macho rich dudes who think they can get any bitch. Third off the fact that she wore such provacative clothing insenuates that she was definitely looking for some attention. I'm certainly not saying catcalls or other gestures are appropriate but come on. Anyone who has been in a locker room or played a sport understands what goes on back there.

But aint this whole thing for entertainment?
Is it morally adequate to humiliate people on rality television? of course not, but it brings entertainment.
If we are nitpicking we can find ourselves being opposed to a vast majority of things around us, but is it really that bad? They are not putting two children to fight in the mud naked are they?

I am pretty sure this whole thing was planned. She is a butterface, butterfaces like attention more than all together pretty girls, butterfaces end up in your bed after a rough night with jagerbombs and you then never call them again or you bump into them eventually and you try to play it off.
Man that was mysoginistic, what have women done to me.

Why have women wearing sexy clothing in a male locker room that would be like hiking in the Iranian/Iraq border. Just asking for trouble.
