I need to finish up with The Sandman series. I think I am on number 8 right now. I also need to read The Watchman because it has been sitting on my shelf for over a year now.

yes yes you do Sandman is awesome

then I reccomend Transmetropolitan, to this day the best thing I've ever read

Abominari

Cerebus
From Hell
Preacher
Will Eisner's "Contract with God" trilogy
Sam Keith stuff

And then you're all done.

(I'm putting space here)

Well, okay:
Transmetropolitan
Palestine (Joe Sacco)
The Fixer (Joe Sacco)
Kingdom Come (gorgeous but wildly uneven)
Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth
Box Office Poison
Hellboy
Maus (natch)
Bone
Lost Girls (actually love this one to death, but not for everyone)
Swamp Thing (Moore's run)

I can't remember any of the other comics I've read. The Akira books were amazing -- better than the film (certainly longer, by far).

(there is space here also)

From another angle:
THE HOLY TRIUMVIRATE
1. Calvin & Hobbes
2. The Far Side
3. Bloom County

Never forget:
Peanuts

And my current favorite:
Dinosaur Comics

Neil Gaiman would do better kneeling in my bathroom with his head tilted back and mouth WIDE open so I have a place to relieve myself. I'm not too fond of Frank Miller, either, but I like Dark Knight Returns okay and Ronin was pretty awesome. Sin City's a fun read but not nearly worth the praise heaped upon it, and 300 has nice art thanks entirely to Lynn Varley. I think Roman Dirge and Jhonen Vasquez are retards.

Abominari is a crass asshole.

I don't really enjoy comics. I do, however, enjoy the movies. I'd like to lie to myself about not enjoying them so I could partake in some extreme nerd activities. But, I really don't like them. On the other hand, I do respect the artists and material, considering the movies might never have been conjured if the inspiration for such things were absent.

What about comics is it that turns you off, do you think?

Transmetropolitan is something I've heard a lot about recently. Pros-cons?

I'm a Marvel nerd and if I read, I tend to go back a few years. Catching up is impossible. I should get with the times so I can have discussions with people I know who read comics. As it is, I always bring up Doctor Strange, old Beyonder comics and things from the 80's.

Alright, alright... you caught me. I enjoy JTHM...

But, since you ask, the reason I find myself straining to enjoy comics is because I find it difficult to stay still... and you'd think all the pictures would help this, but it's just a distraction for me. I need a real, hearty book to read or give me a movie. The both combined is just too difficult for me, I suppose.

If you don't mind, what comics have you tried to get into, in the past?

My dad used to bring home a bunch of strange comics. I can't even remember the names, but they always featured a kind of horror stories, and of course, big breasted women and such. I always liked Archie too, lol. I'm such a geek.

I haven't actually read many comics for a few months. Last year I was fortunate enough to pick up a few Graphic novels to tide me over for the moment. I got to read V for Vendetta, Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, Batman: Hush and a few others.

I'm a fan of Deadpool and I'm excited to hear that they are reviving him into his own series and I think I'll try and get some of them shipped to me here if it's possible.

I have been following a large number of series just reading about them online. Some of the stuff has seemed really cool like Secret Invasion and Civil War. I'm still sort of up to date with some stuff.

I can't possibly explain all the great points about transmet so I'll let this quote do it

Warren Ellis asked me to write this and I am O.K. with that up to a point. My unease is that the point is unnervingly sharp and very likely to turn in my direction. Here is the problem. Warren knows that I am a TRANSMETROPOLITAN fan, but how can he expect me to write about that? Does he think I just came down the Clyde on a tea biscuit? No sirree, this is not my first barbecue. If I write that Spider Jerusalem is my hero, does he think Spider will let me get away with that? I would be lucky to only suffer a blast from a bowel disrupter and it is much more likely my eyeballs will be popped as easily as squeezing a pustule and fed to the cat. If I write that TRANSMET is a beacon of brilliant irony and sardonic satire, could I survive the torrent of saliva-drenched invective and scorn S.J. would heap on me? If I wrote that TRANSMET made me laugh like a drain, are there enough lavatory bowls to contain Jerusalem's vomit?

If I confessed that I lusted after the filthy assistants, what foul perversions would I be accused of? If I praised the artwork as the wittiest, most disturbing since George Grosz, I would soon find myself depicted as a ****ed-up, mechanics-addicted, feces-smeared background character. If I hailed this version of the future as persuasive and properly terrifying, I might never live to see it. You get my problem?

I think, however, that I can safely say this: I know this city. I have read The Word, I have listened to these politicians, I have smelt the stink of greed, I have thrown stuff at the TV, I have wondered what future there is for Truth and Beauty. I have wanted to go and live on the top of a Yorkshire moor.

Warren, tell Spider to stay healthy and keep writing the column.

If Archies count, I have about 400. Hm.

I still don't know what Transmet is about, really. I'm sure it has brilliant writing and such, I'm just curious about AllRPGers' favorite things about it.

I've really wanted to read the Civil War stuff and the entire Onslaught story, even though I know what happens and all.

Matron

Oh I'd love to see your Archies! I like the old ones better, when he had the piece of crap car, who the heck decided to have him have a Mustang?

It's about Spider Jerusalem, a journalist styled on Hunter S. Thompson in the future, who comes out of self-imposed exile to make good on his contract and ultimately becomes wrapped up in a presidential campaign and the horrific aftermath.

He replaced the jalopy!? Holy ****, I hate life.

As for Transmet, I've... Magically received an issue or something. I'll weigh in on it when I get a chance to read it.

Matron

Yeah, keep the old ones, don't bother with the new ones.

The car is still a piece of crap, but it's not the jalopy.

Abominari

Which issue, Cyrus? You really have to start from #1 and work your way up from there, and -- fortunately -- the books only get better as the story progresses.

Seriously, read Transmet. Ellis is always a good read.

Currently published: DC Kicks ass with 3 comic books: All Star Superman (best thing done since Moore's stuff, and Morre's Supreme, which was a Superman pastiche), Blue Beetle, which is a fun read, and Booster Gold, which just kicks a ton of ass. THANK YOU GREEN LANTERN.
Edit: A fourth: Forgot somehow about Final Crisis. I am gonna get the second issue and the sketchbook today.

I have just two problems with Preacher, a) I love it when I am reading it, but it leaves a bad aftertaste. Don't know why. B) DILLON CAN ONLY DRAW ONE GOD DAMNED FACE.

I'm not sure which issue it is, yet. I'll download it today and read it during dinner, likely. It's probably the first one, though. Hard not to be excited when everyone says it's so good.

The only comics I've read in years is the Buffy Season 8 comics, which carries the story from where the show ended.

I've heard about those, actually. This reminds me of how the Hush presentation really scared the hell out of me way back when.

If you liked the show, and are interested in the stories, it's worth checking out.

Buffy did a girl in the last issue. And not Willow!

Joss Whedon writes some damn funny dialog
As seen in Astonishing X-Men. Funny dialog and gorgeous Cassaday art? Yes please.

Unfortunately I don't get to finish most of the arcs I'm reading. I've gotten pretty far through Ex Machina and Annhilation: Conquest, however. I do read quite a bit.

God damn it.
Comics shop got Final Crisis 2 yesterday.
One hour later, it was sold out. I tried to get a copy today.

Oh well, will try next week.

BPRD: The Ectoplasmic Man was much better than War on Frogs.

I will take your word for it. Maybe I will actually get it read that way since I have been putting it on hold for so long.

I'm pretty into comics.

I enjoy reading Marvel, DC, Vertigo (my personal favorite), Wildstorm, Dark Horse, Image, and Top Cow comics. My favorite comics are probably the X-Men, and the Sandman series. Overall, though, I would say I'm a bigger DC fan.

Abominari; what exactly do you dislike about Neil Gaiman?
