I was talking with EB earlier about sleep, and how lately it feels like my enemy. I've always had a tough time getting to sleep, but the past months, it's been just horrible. I go to bed and toss and turn for hours, so I end up coming online looking for someone to talk to. (Thanks EB for keeping me occupied tonight!)
Usually once I get to sleep, I can sleep for at least 8 or 9 hours, but lately, even that isn't happening. I'm lucky if I can get 6 or 7 before I pop awake and can't go back to sleep. So these days, I sit up til at least 4, and hell, it's not so unusual for me to just stay up til I have to start getting people up for work and school at 6 and 7 am. All this lack of sleep is no help at all for depression, either. :(
So, how does sleep treat you guys? How do you deal with insomnia?

I love sleep but I can't sleep for long. No matter what time I go to bed, I always wake up at 5-6am and can't sleep again. I usually only sleep after 1 or so I have to get tired before I go to sleep and sitting around doesn't do it, so I always exercise before going to be, that's one of the things that has actually helped me.
When I sleep away from home I only sleep for about 2 or 3 hours because I'm not accustomed to the place.
What I hate the most about not being able to sleep is the feeling that you are the only one who is awake in the whole world.

Lately I've been getting anywhere between 4 and 7 hours. I'm a glutton for sleep, though. I've just been slacking off.

Usually pretty good but lately I've been having trouble thanks to an antibiotic. :(

I have a hard time getting to sleep, but if I'm in my own bed I can sleep in for up to 12 hours. My record is 16. In other beds, I get 6 or less.

I don't sleep at all if I'm not in my own bed, I've always been that way. Vacations were always hell, I'd barely sleep the whole time I was gone.
I ended up staying up last night til 7:30 this morning, got up at 1.

I was up until 5, but slept until 2. Mm, summer.
I had a ton of trouble sleeping about a year ago, I got maybe 4 hours every night for a few months. I'm not completely sure how I managed to change that, it just kind of happened.

You're welcome Dire! :)
I try to aim for 6-7 hours of sleep, but sometimes (especially lately, being jobless) I've been getting more like 8-9.
I can end up with insomnia sometimes, but it's usually when I'm stressed out about a bunch of different things... However, it takes me a while to fall asleep...sometimes I'll have to lie in bed and watch 2 hours of television before I get tired enough to konk out. It sucks.

Sleep and I get along more when I am depressed about life. We might reunite here soon.

HEY I want EB to keep me occupied too!
And sleep, I normally go to bed at the stroke of midnight, wake up at 7 even though my alarm is set at 6:45 but i just hit the snooze button 3 times.
On weekends I sleep 10 hours but as my internal clock is programmed I always get sleepy early on.

Don't be depressed, it sucks. I'm always here if you need someone to talk to.
I actually took a nap today- about an hour and a half, on the couch.

I get from 2-5 hours of sleep when I am working. The first day I am off, I usually get well over 15+ hours of sleep. I slept for almost a full day last Sunday. I have sleep medication, but it is pointless to take it if I am going to be on the phone for a while, and by the time I am off, it is already 3:00am in the morning. If I were to take it around that time, I would have an extremely hard time waking up in the morning. Yeah, I could take it when I get home, but I do not like to do that if I am going to have anything to drink that contains alcohol in it.

I usually get at least 6 hours daily in the weekend. A lot of sleep debts lately because of work work work. I hate bringing back work to do in the weekends.
I love sleep because it gives me a break from everyday life and it affords me the chances to dream. I've been having a lot of really fun dreams lately, and a lot of them have been centered around trying to find someone I used to know, for some reason.
Sleeping is probably my favorite thing to do.

I think I'm doing worse. Stayed up til 7:30 am yesterday, after 9 today.
I keep thinking exhaustion will finally catch up to me and I'll be able to sleep while it's dark, but so far, no dice.
