Social networking sites--I just don't do 'em. Not that I think anything wrong with them (aside from the fact that employers tend to use them when screening new recruits) but I've just never been one to be extroverted in any real way. I don't broadcast my feelings more often than not, and I prefer socializing on forums rather than note pages or Walls or whatever the hell they're called.
So what about the rest of you?

I, well, I use it lightly. I have a page but I dont really update status unless there is something I really want to share.
I have seen people that like update their status way too much. Like this girl that I went to university with, whenever she is doing something slightly different from her last update she updates her status.
Like she was going to this othert town, so she is like:
10 am "Getting Ready to go"
11 am "On our way to X"
12 am "almost there"
1 pm "Looking at a place to eat lunch"
3 pm " Getting to the hotel"
5 pm "Starting to tget ready for the party"
7 pm "Almost ready"
9 pm "Leaving to the party"
10 pm "Having fun with friends"
I mena shit, what the fuck, first of all, of all the people on your FB, I doubt even 4 care that much abvout your life to actually consider that necessary, and two why would you even do it, its like taking a shit and updating with that, just crazy.
Also, everybody has that couple, you know the one, I have actually deletd people in relationships because it gets too damn much. I know sometimes you get carried away on threads at fb when one friends comments and then another and then you have 40 comments on an status update, but a couple just having a complete and intimate conversation through status comments its ridiculous. Heard of a phone?
Also people are really getting impersonal. One of my closest friend's grandpa died last week and some people gave their condolescenes through facebook. I mena, what the fuck people, you can call the guy, maybe if you are out of the country but still, email? What do you think? Wouldnt it be better, more personal?
Also, why do people when others die, post it on facebook. Like people saying "Take care in heaven NBlah Blah", is thios really proper and I am just too much of a prick or its a valid complaint?

I absolutely love it.
I don't get TOO personal on it. I use it to keep track of friends and colleagues, I update my status with random, usually nonsensical messages, and I post a lot of youtube music videos.

It lets me keep in track with old friends from HS - people I literally went to hs with and online friends I met while in hs - and I do get a lot from the links and videos people post. I'm not so big on pictures primarily because they tend to be taken when I am out, and I don't need employers reading into things (oh my god a twenty-something having a beer, stop the presses!!!)

Big fan. It's a pretty simple way to keep track of friends and make plans and communicate with some people. I get the impersonal thing, though.

I use it here and there when needed. It's more often than not just a distraction but it can be very useful, obviously.

I go through periods of getting tired of it, but it's a nice little distraction when I'm at work once in a while. Most of the time that I use it is when I'm at work...
I get a little annoyed at the people that add me who I haven't talked to in a decade (since high school). If I wanted to keep in touch with you, I would have kept in touch with you... I always feel obligated to add these people...and then I never talk to them.
I guess it's a good thing I'm using the internet for socializing less and less these days...

Man this just happened to me. Actually even worse. It took me like a week to remember who the hell this guy who added me was, I knew him from elementary school even, and then he just kinda changed schools and moved and never saw him again, this means I havent talked to the guy in 14 years, and he added me on FB and honestly I dont think I should accept the request, It has been like 2 months and I still havent replied but I dont want to seem like an asshole.
Also, I dont know how people add you after meeting you like once. Now sure, some of us here are fb friends as well even though we have never met each other, but at least there is some contact online sort of speak. This chick just added me and I didnt know who she was until I was on my friends' pages and they had some conversation with her (You remember me? HA I have been looking for you guys). Story goes, we once went to this festival out of town and met her there and partyed but I didnt even remember her name or what she looked like. And now she is requesting frienship.
Or maybe I am too anal about my facebook, i delete about 10 people every month so I keep my numbers low.

My high school best friend who took advantage of my friendship on a daily basis and it took me graduating from high school and making some real friends to realize it...That person... She added me once before and I added her...then I deleted her, and here's another friend request. I was like "Shit woman, don't you take a hint!" Then I remembered women are dumb... :p haaaa... Seriously though, the only time she has contacted me since high school was when she wanted something... Like her kid has a birthday...and she's expecting me to come to a birthday party with not only a gift, but food. To quote my Dad, "That dog don't hunt."

It's a pretty good way to past time throughout the day. Can't stand when people update their whole lives though, it's a bit silly if you ask me.
I check my feed everyday to see if there's anything interesting to comment on. (Kinda like on here, go figure.) And use it to upload pics, and generally bitch about work or something else that happened I feel is noteworthy.

I like when people from elementary school add me, though the novelty wears out pretty fast. All they talk about are their kids/jail experience/shitty hip-hop samples. It's really cool to catch up at first, though, I like it a lot. Mostly because people fascinate me.
As for people who add after one meeting, it makes sense sometimes. If I have a really good time hanging with someone and I'm not sure when I'll see them again, it's facebook time. Otherwise I'm not so down.

This just about sums up my thoughts on Facebook and the like.
WARNING: RAMBLING AHEAD
I would have so many fewer issues with Facebook if they would just make it so that I can control what goes into my feed. I do not give a shit about what everyone is doing. Nor do I care about their hilarious new YouTube video that is actually just a waste of brain cells. I do not want to sign into a networking site to be bombarded by the flippant postings and ramblings of people I have met. If they need to talk to me, send me a message. I will respond. Hell, post on my wall if you really hate messages.
Facebook as it is now just feels like it's trying to waste my time. And, oh, for the love of God, stop trying to recommend friends to me! I would be oh so happy if they would just allow me to customize my page so that I could remove certain boxes/functions. Ads? Fine. Ads support the damn thing, so I can't complain too much. Recommending friends to me and pretty much never succeeding? Not okay! If I want to be friends with someone on Facebook, I will find them.
And why, WHY are there GAMES on a social networking site?! Do what you set out to do and just try to do that the best you can! Make a different site with a different purpose for different things! GUHHHHHHHH!
God I hate Facebook.
What? You were warned.
I just use FB to keep tabs on everyone I know every once in a while. I used to use it all the time in college. Now it's just...what's this guy up to?
Oh, great.
That being said, Mafia Wars got played a lot before they added 2 more damn cities. In retrospect I have no idea why I played it.

I hide feeds from people who update too often. It takes 2 seconds and if I happen to be curious what's going on with them, I check their page. Games also support the site. You can hide any kind of game invite, as well. It's actually pretty customizable if you look around a bit.

Facebook makes money off your information, so of course they're going to want you to get as many friends to join as possible.
And I'm not defending the Facebook business model, but at least they're pretty upfront about most things (moreso than in the past). Like with any site, if your information gets into the wrong hands it's probably your fault.

When I say control, I mean that I don't want to have to take people out one by one. It has become incredibly tedious. There was a brief period in which Facebook actually let you make different categories, I guess you could call them, so I had a custom category set as my default, and I would only see updates from like three people. That was great. Then they got rid of that option (or I have been unable to find it since).
Basically I'm sick of doing things one by one. It had it right once :\

Why the hell do you have people on your friends list who you have no interest in seeing updates from? So much so that you'd want to ignore all but 3 of them?
CoolOtaku

For the sake of convenience should I ever need to contact them. That's really the only reason. I have met these people, we know each other, and perhaps some day we will need to get in contact. And we have a way through Facebook.

I say, if you don't like facebook, leave it. Don't complain about your problems without trying to resolve them first.
I like facebook, too much, I had to get myself chrome nanny so I could start concentrating on my studies a little more. The saddest thing is that I never did much on it, I just have it open, post random shit and like a few things. But it's become such a part of my routine that I've had to stand back and look at what I was neglecting because of the time I spend on it(not because of it).
People keep mentioning their friends documenting their life minute by minute, but I don't seem to get that. I'm not even sure weather I would find that annoying or amusing.

Well, since I use it really as an e-mail replacement, I've considered just using e-mail. Thing is, everyone's on Facebook. Not having a Facebook account could actually be considered a detriment. I realize I'm complaining a lot. I need to vent about Facebook sometimes and that's really all this is.
All I'm asking for is more control over what I receive, which I think is perfectly reasonable. I do wish they would stop changing its format though. It really is tiresome.
