Okay, so I was playing Marvel vs. Capcom 3 with some friends and then I suddenly receive a disc read error.
I make several attempts to restart my console, but each time I get the same message. Note that this is only happening with my copy of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and no other game. Any ideas on what the problem is and what to do about it?
I'm totally lost and pretty pissed...

You think it might be an issue with the game itself? Have you come across any other people on the internet with this problem?

Ive had this problem on my bro's console multiple times. It always happens with a random disc. The first time it was Lord of the Rings. It had no scratches and when I put another disc in it worked fine. I put LotR back in and same problem. Ive always been able to fix it by simply unplugging the power cord for about 10 seconds.

Hope its an 3sucky bug. Thats what you get for getting a POS console.
Seriously though, have you googled it to see if its a common error. Xbox specific?
I need to know before having sister buy the game next week and get the same thing after playing it on my ps3. Not so easy to get a game change when you have to send it over to the states for refund.

I came across this.

Hmm, I tried that, but to no avail. Thanks for the advice though. Do you know if using a 360 without a hard drive might be the reason?

And you know what I got for buying a "superior" console? A dead bluray drive that cost me $130 bucks to fix. Its not just MS. Hardware failure has sucked on both ends. 360s were worse off but saying the PS3 is better is like saying a rotten apple is better then a rotten tomato. At least MS fixed my console for free.
I dont know about the hard drive thing DK but I really dont think its a problem with your console if all your other games and movies are working fine. If you needed a hard drive it would say so on the box. Hopefully its just a glitch thatll get fixed in a patch. Check official forums and see whats going on there.
Edit: It is possible. I just remembered Reach was only having disc read errors on consoles with no HD. But the guy that created that gamefaqs thread has an HD so idk.

I've had that happen to me on one occasion. I can't remember what game it was though. I just got another copy and it worked. The disc looked fine, but you can never tell with these consoles.
If I didn't know any better I'd say the hardware is made to corrupt just so they can milk more money out of the consumers.

This.
I tried the same exact disc on a friend's 360 and it still had the same disc read error. This puzzles me because it was a brand new game. Christ, almighty...

I think it's a hardware defect found in the old 360's cause I had that probelm once with my old 360. well I fixed it the old fashioned way: I slammed my fist into the console in a feat of rage after it did that to me for what seemed like the millionth time. it stopped with the disc read errors after that but it also would occasionly not realize I put a disc in. anyway try running a lens cleaner through the 360 and cleaning the disc. these might not fix it but it's worth a shot.

Seriously, slam your fist down to the lext of the "x" on "xbox 360" on the top of the console. Give it an agressive tapping until you hear the disc spin. Often the spindle won't catch the disc for whatever reason and this bit of force will get it going again. I had to do this with MW2 until my last xbox broke. Also begin investing in a fund for a new 360. DREs are usually an early forcast of a failing 360. Ive had 4 360s now and all of them started with DREs and months later ended in Red rings.
