Do you have any game traditions, or at least did you have any?

I know for myself I was playing Super Mario Bros. 3 every year on New Years eve for a number of years. From 1999-2001 every year I beat the game exactly at midnight. I managed to squeeze in some time to do it again in 2009.

I used to also play Double Dragon II and Contra shortly after beating SMB3 and beating them on the first day of the year.

One that 2 of my friends used to always do was have matches in MKII on the SNES where they both always used Jax and Liu Kang. I have no idea why they started it but it lead to some pretty intense battles.

I play Xenogears once a year every year.

Another once-a-yearer here. Marathon through all MGS games. One of these days I'll stick in the older games that game with my MGS3 package.

I'm drinking Dragonslayer while playing Dragon Age II. Ah, new traditions...

Liz and Phak, those take some serious determination. I like MGS but I couldn't sit through all 4 games in a row. It would be a struggle for me to finish just one of them in a single sitting.

Halloween seems like a good time to play through some sort of horror game. But I never manage to have time to do it.

Yeah, I did the MGS thing a few years ago, but that was just me going through them all for the first time...and it took from May to August.

Granted, I'd probably zip through them all a bit quicker now that I know what I'm doing.

Regardless, that is a great tradition, Liz. Respect, yo.

I don't have any major ones, but every couple of years I play through Final Fantasy IX.

I need to have an MGS tradition now!

I think it would be awesome if we picked an old game that the majority of people either had or could easily get and wanted to replay, then discuss it again. Sometimes these old game threads come up and I don't know what to say simply because its been so long.

That's a pretty great idea Liz. Maybe we can do some sort of monthly event and post it on the main site as an announcement. RPG or otherwise, I think we should start this up. It would be great and it could possibly bring in some new blood to the site. Let's put this into works if possible by starting a little vote in a thread and then choosing the game we can play.

I might be down for that.

If we were to pick Xenogears maybe I'd actually get around to finally finishing it.

Please restrict to old games, my ps2 has been dead for quite a bit now. Sniffle.

I vote for Xenogears as well, for the same reasons as Moogleman.

FF 8 new game at least once a year. Been doing it for about 5 years now. I don't even plan to though, it just happens.

I vote for FF8, I am way ahead on Xenogears, currently on Babel Tower.

Xenogears and FF8 are the only two RPGs I've played through *twice* a significant amount without finishing, so really, either would be ideal in my mind. But I'm leaning toward Xenogears. If only because of the insane tedium of the draw system in FF8.

I was gonna nominate FF8 as another possibility. Imagine that. Haha.

Just got it (again) since my disc was scratched. So I'm game for FF8, too.

I didn't like VIII at all and I can't think of a reason myself to try it again. I'llgo for Xenogears will be my pick since I just re-downloaded it from the PSN and I never finished it back in the day. I'd be all over that game if we chose it.

Dammit, its like Sophie's Choice!

It would seem that there are more people willing to play FF VIII, so I would say that would be a good game for everyone to start up on. Unless we really want to make an official thread for choosing between the two games. I would say maybe we can start this up for April, and try to finish the game within the month and move onto the next game. Works okay for everyone?

I definitely think an official thread with a poll would be a good idea. So who wants to coordinate it?

I missed your post here Moogle. Since it doesn't appear as though anyone has made an attempt to push this forward, I'll create a new thread and perhaps we can set it up for our retro game of the month for April. Please voice your opinion and participate!
