View Full Version : I am out of beers!

So yesterday i went to the supermarket like i always do on a regular basis but forgot to buy beer and last night I went through my last ones and had to resort to what apparently was a bad wine as it got me drunk really fast and sick in y stomach after only half a bottle.

Either way, as I am out of beers it reminded me of those things that I really truly absolutely positively NEED and GOTTA have in my fridge or kitchen. Not just the basic stuff like bread, butter and milk but those things that just tap into your particular tastes and preferences.

Mine are:

Cream Cheese

I need Cream cheese. I use it on sandwiches for meals and also dessert with jelly. Whenever I run out of it, the very same day i am at the supermarket buying another one. Yesterday I bought this huge 700 g box of it as it saved me a couple cents over buying a 3.1 of the 220 boxes.

Beer

I dont need to have a lot of beer since I dont drink at home because i just start drinking and drinking and cants stop so I get drunk alone and that aint fun and also, it makes me wanna party. However, one beer here and there when you are chilling at home is simply awesome.

Powder Juices

I normally go to the wholesale club market here and get these four packs of 2.5 liter bottles of coke but as i was doing my math, it is much more convenient to buy juice powder and make them individually whenever i need some flavoured drink. Thats also convenient cuz whenever I start a 2.5 coke bottle, i could finish it over a sitting. Expending the same money (around 5 or 6 dollars) on juice powder gets me a ****load of juices. I divide them by half, take one half to work to have at the office, and the other half i leave at home. Berry juice kicks ass.

Now you can finally be sober!

Soda- duh, have you guys met me? Still not drinking much of it though, limiting myself to one glass a day, if that.

Carnation Instant Breakfast- some days I'm not hungry, but I know that I need to eat or I'll feel sick. The CIB I can mix up and drink it quickly, and stave off a headache.

Bailey's Irish Cream- This is a new one, but it makes the CIB taste much better!

Anchovies: I put them on everything! My dinner most nights is pasta with anchovies or anchovies on toast

Garlic and olive oil: I always have it around. I saute everything in it. It's a kitchen staple for me. If i run out I die.

red wine: Whenever i go to a party or have people over for meals(which is ALL the time) I open a bottle. Happiness :)

I don't know what I'm going to do when I'm back in the States and don't have my skyr. It's cheese that resembles yogurt except MUCH better. Mmm. I eat at LEAST one every day. I know you can buy it in Boston but not in Georgia... freak out!

I don't really have a fridge right now... so all I *really* need to keep me going every day is coffee, water, gum, and hard candy. So many smokers.. my throat and lungs can't take it!

Hey look its the perfect thread for me.

Beer:

Well, I'm a beer snob.... wait no I'm just an alcohol snob in general. When it comes to beer I really only have 2 rules import or micro-brew. Of course, before I was 21 this really wasn't the case, but only because I didn't have much of a choice. What really did it, what really made me realize that I shouldn't limit myself to crappy alcohol, it was all of the keg parties during my first few years of college.

Most of my friends give me a hard time, mainly because I take so long to pick out beer, and because I'll go out of my way to go to a store that sell the more obscure beers. Don't get me wrong here I'm not limited to a select type of beer, the common beers or typical beers that I buy, Labbat Light (for some reason I just think it tastes better then Labbat Blue), Rolling Rock, and if I really can't find anything I like MGD.

Hard Liquor:

I really didn't get into liquor until the last few years. Since I've always perfered beer, I would just drink whatever liquor that was availible. Well maybe not the really really cheap stuff, I don't know anyone that likes the dirt cheap stuff. But my love for over the time expensive beer has translated to liquor. I still don't care a lot about hard liquor, but when I do by liquor its usually whiskey or scotch. I don't do mixers, I like to taste my alcohol, so I drink my whiskey/scotch on the rocks.

Labbat Light

Aw, dude. Come on, now.

Blue is way better than Light, imo. I had a case on Saturday night. The 15 packs of bottles were on sale, so why not?

I prefer Blue Dry to Blue, though. But I rarely drink that stuff these days. I got all haughty.

I had some Honey Moon the other night. Not bad, not bad at all.

Jarrid

There really is not that great of a selection of beers here. I do not see any Arkansas micro-brewed beers either. Every beer at the place I go to, which is the best place in town to buy beer, I have tried all of them. Like what Serge said, I take forever when I go and pick out beer. However, when I know I am going to be tight with money, I will buy some cheaper domesticated stuff like Budweiser. Yeah, I get a lot more for the price, but ugh, it just does not taste good at all.

Serge

Well the blue light is just a common beer, not a what I drink all the time. I just kinda thought that it was pointless to name off a bunch of beers that no one has heard of.

One of my favorite brands right now is actually Sam Adams, Sam is probably one of the only major brewing companies from the US that I actually like. I'm a little burnt out on the Winter White and the Summer brews, but thats because I just got out of a little "Wheat Ale" stage.

If any of you visit Michigan try to pick up some "Bell's" its a local michigan brand, real good.

PBR is my favourite "buck-a-beer" beer. When you're short on cash, you can't go wrong with $24 dollars for a 2-4. In Canada anyways. I know you Americans get beer crazy cheap.

I do not drink a lot of Sam Adams, but I will get their variety pack every now and then. I really do think they have some great beers. However, I really do enjoy New Belgium beer. If you haven't already, try out their Mothership Ale. Man, now that is some good stuff. The great thing about New Belgium, as well, is that they have a variety summer pack which comes with Mothership, Old Cherry (or Mighty Arrow depending on where you are at, which are both new beers from NB), Fat Tire (kind of tired of this one), and a really good dark lager, 1554. 1554 goes well with a nice steak.

Quick question. What is your favorite imported beer?

Serge
07-01-2008, 11:37 PM
Hmmm, I've never seen New Belgium, or I've never noticed it.

My favorite import, La Fin Du Monde, its 9% and is triple filtered, it comes in a pack of 4 but it costs $10.

Fin Du Monde isn't too bad. I would consider it worth that price.

Wow, you should try and see if you can find it up there. There are a lot great tasting beers that the brewery makes. I have actually not see La Fin Du Monde down here to tell you the truth. I will have to overlook everything next time I go this Friday, but I do not recall seeing it.

I was unsure if whether or not I wanted to get any beer tonight. I was over at a good friend's house last night, and he and I drank some Avalanche beer from Breckenridge. The Vanilla Porter had a wonderful aftertaste to it. We drank them all, so I was out. I decided to run down to the gas station and pick some up, though. I figured I could use a couple of drinks. I have been in such a blah mood ever since my girl went back to Arizona. I picked up a thirty pack of Miller High Life. Yeah, I really do not care for it that much, but I thought since I do not get payed Friday, this would be the best decision money-wise. Friday. . . now that is when I will pick up some good beer.

ug that shit is NASTY! I cant stand PBR.

but for $1 a beer in Key west...its all I ever drink when we go there. but that is another story.

I have not tried PBR. I do not think I really intend on trying it unless it is the last and only beer in all of the stores close to me. Then again, I am willing to try it if somebody randomly happens to bring over PBR. I will try any beer just to say I have drank it and know what it tastes like.

This one's new, and completely contradicts what I said when I first posted in this thread.

Since I cut soda out of my life (I miss you old friend!) I have to have bottled water in my fridge, and I mean have to. I'm not picky about brand for the most part, I buy store brands a lot. It's because I grew up with spring water, and now I can taste the chemicals in tap water, and just can't stand the stuff. So, I keep bottled water on hand at all times.

I actually lost my taste for alcohol once I was actually legal to buy it. That was quite a few years ago. I will drink socially but usually just one mixed drink or a couple of beers but never Pabst Red, White and effin Blue.

I have a sorta off the wall gotta have. I found this a few years ago and it is like crack I tell ya. Brummel and Brown's strawberry spread. It is made from yogurt and is exceptional on buttered toasted cinnamon bread. Hell when I run out of bread, I will eat that narcotic on saltines;)

Matron
07-31-2008, 06:27 PM
Never tried it, but it sounds good. Food wise, there's not much in my fridge right now. Since my oven broke, there's not much point in buying stuff I can't nuke, so it's all cans this week. Besides, me and food haven't been getting along well lately anyway. I get hungry, I eat, I feel sick- it's easier to just not eat, lol.

I did just have some lovely Kraft Mac N Cheese though. That's another household staple, just not a fridge staple. Mac N Cheese, canned soup, Chef Boyardee stuff, ramen noodles, I always have that stuff on hand.

BAMAJAMA
07-31-2008, 06:57 PM

Then I'd probably be better off leaving it in the grocery store! I have enough bad habits without adding another one.
