I am the first and therefore oldest spawn in my generational step in my family, or whatever its called, and I am also so far the only who is mostly electronically inclined of my family and therefore the only real gamer.

My sister is 3 years younger than me and after her the oldest first cousing we have is currently 8 years old. All of them have DSs and my aunt also has a ps2 for my cousin and may buy a wii. My uncle has a ps3 with move but lacks games because he doesnt really know what to get. I would rip the shit of move but then again, as a gamer is my duty to repulse the move thing.

Anyway, one of my cousins is also my goddaughter so whenever she has a bday or I travel I have to buy her some cool shit due to my duties as a godfather. Recently during my vacations, before I left I told my aunt I was gonna bring her a DS game. During my holiday my aunt said she wanted some piece of shit game about modelling or make up or some stupid crap like that.

I said no chance in hell. So I went to a couple Gamestops because I am a cheap son of a bitch and even though I hate Gamestop and havent given them any business since 2004, I was trying to find some cheap game, but a good one. Not some crap where you had to paint a dolls face or train a dog, something that could really get her into gaming in the long run.

Gamestop was a bust because Gamestop is really the biggest piece of shit chain sotre ever concceived so i jumped into amazon to try and find Super Princess Peach. I reasoned that it was a Nintendo platforming game BUT it starred fucking Toadstool so my cousin could sue this as a gateway drug into gaming. Maybe next she'll wonder what would it be like to play as Mario, and then Sonic and so on.

So Amazon pulls out the price for SPP and its like 50 bucks. I know for a fact that DS games are not supposed to cost more than 30 or 40 bucks so I do a WTF and research and it turns out to be that this is a very rare game for the DS and Nintendo hasnt released any new copies since it was first out, which was like 2006 or something.

So I think about this and find the other stupid make up modeling game selling for like 14 bucks. I say nay and I buy SPP because I want her to be a gamer.

Now she barely trouches her DS and all she wants to play stupid modeling make up games and is stuck in SPP and hasnt touched it in weeks.

Pisses me off. You try to make at least one little sprout interested in gaming and she turns into not even a casual gamer but a kid who got a DS for xmas and doesnt understand what it means. Fuck man, I still remember when I got my first game boy. I played that shit for hours.

So anyway, question is, have you guys ever tried to get some kid into gaming and it was bust? or not? Feel sorry about how kids these days game and dont care about ***gy shit like Mario but prefer Call of Duty because it rulez?

Growing up I generally had the good sense to not even bring up the topic of games with someone unless I knew they liked them already. So I can't say I've ever tried to get anyone interested in them :\

I tend to let people play whatever the hell they want if it gives them pleasure and they enjoy it. I know a lot of gamers who like Mario...AND Call of Duty. My girlfriend is the biggest Portal fan I've ever seen....and she'll kick your ass in Call of Duty.

I've always been the more "hardcore" gamer among the people I knew.

My friends back home would just wanna play games like Need for Speed, Madden, or any generic FPS game. Any "dudebro" game.

Not that I wouldn't join them in those games or that I would look down upon them for liking those, but I knew better than to bring up the topic of games or try and get them into RPGs. I remember a few times, they asked me how I could play games with so much reading and I was like, "Well, I just prefer a good narrative."

Not everyone can be into something as other people. If they needed to know something about gaming, I was the one to turn to... or sports.. or computers... or a lot of things. I was friends with a lot of stoners. >.>

Anywho, Evil_Angel and I love to get into some games together, but I know her tastes are different than mine as well. She prefers games of the Mario, Yoshi, Plants vs Zombies type which is good because I love those types of games. Granted, she'll get into CoD or Diablo or even Mortal Kombat, so I know she'll at least try a wide range of things. She even tried Super Meat Boy and thought it was cool, so I know she has a desire to game, just maybe not as dedicated as mine, which is fine. I have made her more aware of different types of gaming that she probably wouldn't have known about, though, which is good.

If I ever need to talk more about gaming, I come here, /v/, or to chat and talk about the more in depth stuff, so that need is satiated to an extent. I don't try and force my opinions of games down others' throats, but if the subject ever does come up, I will offer a few opinions, not that it ever really does in my day to day life.

Fanboy up in hurr!

I lend out a lot of my games in the hopes that I can turn my friends onto Suikoden or Chrono Trigger or similar games. My friend enjoyed Chrono Trigger quite a bit so that was worth it, but now I don't know where it is and I've also last track of my copies of Final Fantasy Anthology, Suikoden V and a few others of no consequence. It was pretty worth it if people actually enjoy the games but it's pretty hit-or-miss.

That reminds me. There is this guy at work who is one of the few of us who owns a console but he is really a disgrace to owning a game console. He lent me God of War, Bad Company, Wolverine and Resistance 2 when I got my ps3. I told him i was gonna get them to him as fast as I could and he said dont botter since he only plays Pro Evolution Soccer.

Sure, it may not be as bad as Madden, but this guy spent all that money on his ps3, his panasonic HDTV and whatever and all he does is play football on it? I know anybody is free to play whatever he or she wants but Its just such a waste of money. And also I dont know is Pro Evolution is licensed as Fifa, I mean Pro Evolution is what used to be International Superstar Soccer and those games were hilariously non licensed. SO if it isnt licensed there is really no point of playing it on ps3, you could get a ps2 and play PES8 which I read once was one hell of a game, for a soccer game that is.

I really feel repulsed by him. I blame the free market to allow such a low life to be able to buy an able console. Any other gamer could be using that console, but there he is all morbidly obese and stupid, playing only the same game over and over again.

You have to start the lasses young if you want to get them into gaming. My sis is still only like 13 or so, but she plays all kinds of stuff now. Start with something cutesy and incredibly simple (even moreso than SPP), like LocoRoco. My sis got a kick out of PAIN on PSN, too. One-button type stuff.

Now she likes racing games (huh?), Portal, and GTA4 (yeah, I know - we're a bit dysfunctional).

My brother is a tard who likes sports games only. I got him into Assassin's Creed, but that's about it as far as non-EA goes. He tried Twilight Princess and gave up because it was too hard. I did teach him Soul Cali a while back so I'd have someone to play often, but that was like SC2.

Why am I a Fanboy, exactly?

And seriously... I agree with you guys on most opinions regarding games and such, but why is it a waste of money if someone ENJOYS it? Seriously, that's bullshit. If the guy likes and only really plays Soccer, let him! He doesn't need to play games YOU enjoy. He needs to play games HE enjoys. My son is a major Pokemon fan and has all of them for his DS. I don't like them or pokemon, but I don't tell him he can't play them.

Aren't people allowed to be happy and enjoy what they want without being judged by others for their choices? I buy Madden nearly every damned year because I like to play Football on my PS3. I also get the MLB and NHL games and Blue up there is notorious for his love affair with the NBA games. GES's PSN Signature right above me appears to have FIFA 11 in it.

I think I agree with Phak on this just for the sheer dumbfounding quality of the issue. I don't see how any person could spend that much to play one game. Granted, he obviously tried others, but wow. I could never spend that kind of money for one game.

Of course I think people should be free to enjoy whatever they please. That's only natural. Still, it does sadden me a bit when people restrict themselves to only certain types of games. I like seeing people try new things and being rewarded with a positive experience, so I guess my opinion on this isn't limited to just games.

Well shit, I was gonna keep discussion going but this really just busts my drive.

Well, I'm sorry dude, but I do. Just like Blue and other people. Sports games are fun if you like the sport. If you don't like sports, I can see why they would have no appeal to you, but that doesn't mean they don't to others.

On the same foot though... I'm an RPG fanatic. Different Strokes for different folks, as the saying goes. People like what they like and just because you don't doesn't make them wrong. If we all liked the same thing, the world would be a fuckoff boring place to live.

I like sports games for the same reason some people like Sim City. It's the micromanagement aspect of it for me.

I can't run an NBA team in real life or even be on an NBA team, but these games, should they continue to get more realistic, can give you an accurate depiction of what it can be like to actually do those things.

On the subject of games that appeal to thirteen year old boys and older bros, I really wish they'd make a new THPS game that doesn't involve that ridiculous board.

I've heard rumors of them going back to their roots, but who knows? They're busy running CoD into the ground right now.
