I didnt even know it was happening until yesterday. I was doing some research about Robin. I couldnt remember which one became Nightwing, which one died, etc. Then I stumbled across news about the DC reboot.
First of all this isnt the DC version of Marvel Ultimate. They arent making a new timeline while the old one continues on. They are completely rebooting everything with 52 different comics starting back at issue #1. Im not sure exactly what this means because all 4 of the Robins are still around. Dick Grayson is getting his own comic again as Nightwing. Jason Todd will be getting his own comic as Red Hood. Tim Drake is returning as Red Robin in Teen Titans. And Damian Wayne will be patrolling the streets of Gotham with his father in Batman and Robin. The fact that all 4 Robins are still around means that they arent starting back at ground zero so I dont know exactly whats the point of this "reboot".
From what I can tell its just a good excuse to change things up a bit and make each series more modern. They also want people to not feel intimidated because they havent missed out on 40+ years of continuity. Some fans are rightfully pissed off that its happening. Personally Im kind of glad. Ive always been a super hero fan but Ive never been a comic reader. I just didnt know where to start. Now I feel like I can get in at the ground floor when the reboot starts in September.
What do you guys think about this?

Sounds like a decent idea. It messes up a few things if you're a big comic nerd who is anal about canon, but for me, I think it's pretty neat. A reboot means they can take all the ideas they had that were good (but badly timed or required a retcon) and make them work better.
I'd love to see Marvel do something like this, since I'm a bigger fan of Marvel than DC. Pretty neat though.

It doesn't do anything for me. But I do think it's a good idea. It could usher in a new era of comic fans. New fans equals new money. New money means more sub-par DC Comics movies. Capitalism.

I think this is a good idea on DC's part. For me at least, DC has always had such a confusing continuity. Throwing in the fact that a large portion of their main stable heroes are from different planets and or in the cosmos makes it difficult for people to jump into. I'm not a big DC fan, but I like this approach even if it's a huge risk for them.

I'm not against it, but I'm still afraid that many fans will be upset - fine and well.
I think it'll be quite refreshing.

So DC is doing a continuity reboot... again? So that's what, the third time around? This strikes me as the brute force approach to getting new readers.

Well at least this time the reason for changes is not "so superboy prime punched time". I am not really that involved in this, i am more of a marvel fan.

Isn't it Flash time fuckery? Haven't read any comics for a while. Hell, the last thing I actively followed was Morrison's Final Crisis.
Which was awesome. SHould probably catch up one day.

Actually I dont know. I have read about the reboot but I havent really dug in deep because like Priest I get the whole "done that before" thought in me, even though DC is like "Noperz, this time we are rebooting the whole thing like hardcore reboot" but honestly, I dont know what that means, does Superman go back to Kansas? Do we get back to Hal Jordan? If so why do Stewart and Rayner also have books for them coming up. How does this affect Batman since they have been so busy with Lesbian Batwoman and Damian Wayne and Dick Grayson? I thought Batman inc was interesting, now everything goes dead?
I have bills to pay! I am already getting sick from the boozing and overallr libertine excess in my life, I got bigger problems to deal with than this.

Only thing I've read is lamentations for once again rebooting for advertising's sake, as well as misogyny/sexism issues typically levied against comic books.

I think I read something about Superman not being Clark Kent anymore? I could be wrong. I think Batman goes back to having Damien and Bruce as the two main characters while others like Red Robin continue in their own series.
It's an interesting move. I forgot about the whole Crisis on Infinite Earths and such. Has Marvel really rebooted everything before aside from Onslaught (not including the Ultimate universe which is not 616)?

I havent heard anything about the Clark Kent thing but that would be interesting.
Bruce is back though... Starring in 5 different series. Batman, Batman and Robin, The Dark Knight, Detective Comics and Batman Inc. which relaunches in 2012. Oh and Justice League of course.
Unfortunately Red Robin is losing his series and hes getting thrown into the Teen Titans. I dont understand that move because Red Robin has been very well received. But thats about the only thing I dont agree with so far.

I have been trying to get into some of the DC universe things that came out shortly before this reboot happened. I picked up Blackest Night, Batman RIP and Final Crisis. Now I know that I've been outside of DC for years and years but this reboot must be a godsend in a way.
I'm not following these previous events with much interest. I find these difficult to feel attached to the characters and reasons for everything that is happening. It feels as though the creative teams are trying to cram far too much information and inside nods to past events that it becomes tedious and uninteresting. They seem to be doing the best creative work as possible but being forced to try and follow not only the main event, but having to buy into everything else just to follow the full event.
Marvel does tend to do this as well but DC just has far too many characters being thrown at you at any given moment from various Earths and universes that it's a mess of a story.
