I'm kind of going out on a limb here since I'm pretty sure we have very very few members who have played a Monster Hunter title. However, with Nintendo's recent announcement that the 3DS will be receiving Capcom's love in the form of not only Monster Hunter Tri-G but also Monster Hunter 4, I figured it was worth bringing up. Even if you've never played the series, feel free to chime in.

With the recent 3DS price drop due to poor sales and Nintendo employee salary cuts, Nintendo seemed like it was in a pretty bad place for a while there. With the announcement of two full Monster Hunter titles for the system though, things could very easily turn back around for Nintendo. Let's keep in mind that the PSP's support from fans is based significantly on the Monster Hunter franchise, at least in Japan. Monster Hunter Tri is also one of the most popular games on the Wii.

What do you think about all of this Monster Hunter love for the 3DS? Do you think it will be enough to save the 3DS in the West and/or the East? If you've never tried a Monster Hunter game, is there something that they could do in Monster Hunter 4 that you think would sell you on it?

Rented Tri, liked it. Portable seems like it would fit it well. Will probably get it eventually when I get a 3DS if it is localized.

I don't think MH will ever be popular enough to warrant a portable main series installment here in NA. It likely will be online, but if that's the case, why not on a console?

This ain't a knock on the 3DS, either. I've just seen countless attempts at portable "community" gaming, while viable in Japan, completely fall flat here. Stuff like Peace Walker on the PSP or DQIX on the original DS.

I'll still buy it, but I'm hoping it's functional (I'm the guy that had to plug a keyboard on the back of the Wii for Tri).
