I see this other thread, and its all about what people like to play and all that and that's great. Good Job! Thumbs up!

Its just not enough though. So fuck that thread bro. I want to hear the music you make, and not just Blue's band. If you have an instrument I want you to record it and put it on here even if you can only play a scale. I want to turn this thread into an attempt for those of us who are making any amount of music to bump ideas off each other, earn criticism, circle jerk a bit, and understand the virtues of another's ear. I'm eager to hear everything people here have to offer. (all 12 of you.)

I'll start, my friends and I have been jamming a lot recently and started to hit the record button on Sonar so we can listen back to it. All of it's pretty rough, but it is all improvisational, on the spot, pick up your gear and go, and it's just us 3-5 guys getting together and playing just to play. So as much as I'd love to hear a song in it, 90% of the time were just happy its actually listenable. Some songs are better then others, some minutes are better then others. Just like how a chef always likes his own cooking, I'm looking for feedback that is not my own. Though i will preface it again and mention that it is all improvisational, so if it doesn't sound good now- wait a minute and you'll probably hear the eureka moment where we all lock back in to it and get groovy.

ALSO

I want to talk about the process of songwriting/creation you go through. If and when you make music how do you like to do it? Does the music you make reflect your influences? Maybe in ways only you can see/hear? Do you have weird quirks when it comes to it? (For example: I hate fucking steel guitar. What a shit instrument sound.)

Well here is my soundcloud. The first track I'm on guitar, and the subsequent songs I play Synth, which I just bought recently and honestly do not play particularly well. The third track my buddy kyle sings- and hes a bit out of key at times, but I'm not busting his balls on his vocals too much due to his dry mouth at the time, and being put on the spot to improvise lyrics and melodies that none of us had ever heard at the time. Also on that song, we only had one microphone to record vocals and drums so thats why it seems to be lacking something very distinct.

I'll have to post some of my musical endeavours. Though, it's not really music in the sense that one might think.

It's more akin to the work of a group called Coil. Experimental moon musick ( :O).

Good shit guys, just gave a listen very interesting stuff. I have a new jam to upload that was fun but it has this strange electronic noise in the background of the mixdown that is there the whole time. strange. Studio One ...

This is going to be pretty long winded, so if you wanna skip the auto-biography, just go right ahead to my soundcloud or facebook page. =]

Well, I'm sure the majority of people around here have seen my dusty old 'My Music Production' thread. So here's the dizzle. I've been wanting to be a musician for most of my life but did not have an instrument till I was quite old. I learned the basics of piano, guitar and drums, but I no longer even have a guitar or piano, and have never owned drums.

So somewhere along the line I got a job at a dive bar as a karaoke DJ. I thought that it was a pretty cool deal. I got paid to play music that I love, and all I had to do was put up with lousy karaoke stars in between. Eventually I figured out that what I was doing (DJing) had an artform connected to it; beat matching, key matching and turntablism. I taught myself how to DJ like a professional (as opposed to some dive bar schlubb) and in time I was more qualified than any of the local DJs in the town I was living.

It did not take long for me to realize that I could be making my own music. I taught myself about sound production using Garageband, and after a year or so I graduated to using Ableton Live and Reaper (which are Digital Audio Workstations, for the music production-challenged...) I produced techno, and trance for starters, but then I started to get into this funky type of music when I was hearing producers like Bassnectar, Rusko and Mt Eden. I really liked this music. I heard of it before, but never put much thought into it. That music is dubstep.

So I learned everything I could about producing dubstep, through trial and error. After several years of fucking around on the computer, I decided I have to pursue my music career. Needless to say I'm a typical broke ass sales associate at a clothing store and I take university classes where I can. Ah, yes! The generic musician!

In any case, yeah. I've been producing dissonant filth for a few years now. You guys have heard some of what I've arranged in the past. So where am I today? What's up with my so-called music career? And why am I asking questions I already know the answers to?

Well to start with the last question, I'm just doing it for dramatic effect. Although, I'm not so sure how effective that method actually is. Secondly, I am living in Vancouver, trying to make a go of the strong dubstep scene in this city. Next, I am working on a free album which is going to show case my dissonant filth along with a DJ mix that will have 100% unheard material from various producers. Lastly, I am relatively close to landing a gig. I am promoting for a club event planner who specializes in dubstep and electrohouse events; which are the two genres I produce in. I have the opportunity to perform in June if my mix is good enough, so fingers crossed.

And where can you find my music? Either on my soundcloud page (http://soundcloud.com/djbrokensword) or on my Facebook fan page (https://www.facebook.com/brokensworddubstep). Unfortunately it's not up for download at the moment. I want to save the downloads for when my free EP is finished (hopefully at the end of the month). You can preview all of the songs that are going on the album as they are produced, but to make things a little more interesting, I'm not putting the final versions of any of my songs up for listening. All you will get is near complete works in progress for now, and the finished product should be out for free by the end of the month.

Also yeah. Syrus may have some work show up on my mix, so that's kind of cool, yeah?

EDIT: Also, I heard through the grapevine that GenoPuff was asked to rap for one of my tunes. Just sayin'.

Okay, so I'm double posting. Get over it.

I just had an idea and thought you guys might be interested. Basically a few years ago I made a thread trying to get people involved in making monthly video game remixes and covers and competing against each other to make the best (based on votes I guess).

Any one up for doing this? I mean seriously. We all like video games to some degree and since I've been actually messing around with remixes lately (trying to build geek exposure in the VGM scene) I thought it might be a fun idea.

Whoever's interested let me know, and I'll try to get something sorted out. Also it will give me a reason to pop in to AllRPG more frequently.

Word! It's not bad, just needs to be mastered. All the audio is only going through the left speaker channel.

EDIT: I'll start working on something today or tomorrow. I'm in the middle of working on a track for my Free EP but it should be done tonight.

I got started on something this morning. Just slapped some midi into some instruments I had already programmed and made a bassline and put in some of my drum samples. Not very original at the moment and quite convoluted at the moment, but I'll be changing some stuff up when I have more time; just spent the last 5 hours at the computer so it's time for me to get some fresh air. :P

Here's a preview: Final Battle with Kuja from FF9 (http://soundcloud.com/djbrokensword/ff9remix-remix-wip) (EDIT: took the file down as I'm trying to make my soundcloud less cluttered with sharty music :P )

Thanks!

No probs. I can't get it perfect with only two audio tracks, but I can at least get it sounding pretty good, and in stereo. (Lulz)
