Street Fighter.
I didnt know you play fighting games! SF is cool but not my favourite series. I only like the Zero/ Alpha series. Blue, your favourite character in SF?

King of Fighters. I still cant really get used to one character like I am used to Ryu/Ken/Sakura/Akuma but I think thats the one series that has always given good gameplay and good amount of choices for characters. Plus its 2d graphics are always pretty.
Also, you could have earned many cool points if you had added Rival Schools in the list. Thats my personal favourite series and it actually made me buy a psx. Prject Justice was awesome.

Should I inquire as to why Smash Brothers isn't on this list?
Is it because it isn't a traditional fighting game, or a mistake on the TC?
As to my opinion, I'd have to say Soul Calibur. I love weapon fighting. There's a huge assortment of characters whose personalities seem to shine through while they fight. The counter system isn't complicated like DOA. And who can't love that eye candy the ladies provide.

I'm not a big fighting game buff, but I've always loved Street Fighter. Probably because I was pretty good at it. I still haven't met anybody who can beat me more than 1 out of 10 times when I play with Ryu or Ken.
I'd love to play in a tournament or something.

You obviously did not play against me yet. I can KO you within seconds if you use projectile characters. Ok, maybe not within few seconds but you will definitely be defeated easily.

Rival Schools?? WTF!? Are you talking about the game that fighters do stupid air combos and a totally ridiculous looking character with a bat? Get out of here. You sir loses cool points from me immediately. Project Justice? Never heard of em before. You mean Star Gladiator?

WOAH WOAH WOAH Easy there cowboy.
And I certainly do not mean Star Gladiator.
And seriously, you put DBZ games there and you say that Rival Schools is not worthy? Please, Rival Schools is one of the funnest most entertaining fighting experiences ever made. It doesnt take itself seriously and its just plain good old fun. I dare you prove that supering people with Shoma's gigantic bat aint one of the coolest things ever to be put into a fighting game.

I'm into a few series but I don't follow them religiously or anything.
I enjoy the Street Fighter series, particularly Alpha and III. I'm not very good at the games but they are really fun to play regardless of how bad I am at them. I am looking forward to seeing what IV is going to be like.
Samurai Shodown is oddly missing from that list. Always loved the characters and the animation. Plus the vibrant colours add so much to the game. Hanzo is one of my favorite characters (despite being quite hard to learn). Overall it's one game that I might not follow much, but if I see an arcade and any version of the game, I'll play it.
Virtua Fighter is also up there on my list. I love the realistic approach to the series. The best part of VF is that it rewards players for being committed to their craft. Unlike Tekken or Soul Calibur which new players can just jump in and be good at the game. VF does have one big flaw and that's the lack of interesting characters, but that can be ignored because of the wonderful gameplay.

Pretty much. VF is what actually got me into fighting games in the first place. I clearly remember the first time I ever played VF III it at an arcade near my house. It didn't get as much play as Tekken 4, which was near it. I felt bad for it, so I gave it a chance. VF IV is amazing, too. I have it for PS2 and still play it every once in a while with my buddies.

DBZ rocks. You misunderstood the beauty of DBZ, you probably do not understand what I'm trying to say unless you had played DBZ: TB 3. The upgrades in the latest version is so much fun especially on the combo system. Also, is darn fun when you on the speakers loud to hear the characters do the special moves. Ok, the earlier versions in SNES was dumb but is still fun to be doing the deflecting ki moves.

I'm looking forward for SFIV as well, hope it will not disappoint me again, with inclusion of new redundant and silly characters like they did previously.
Samurai Showdown is fun only if you play it in the arcade. My personal favourite is the coughing samurai warrior that slashes the apple and chased by a group of girls after each win, Ukyo Tachibana. I prefer the SS2 but SS4 was ok as well. In SS4 I prefer to use the girl that can morph into other characters do unleashed special moves, forgotten her name.
VF is cool when it first came out but probably it was too realistic that was why I did not like it. I need my Hadokens you see.

I'm a little surprised that VF III got you into the series Atlus. It was for sure the worst one I've played. It just didn't have fluid controls and it felt clunky. That stupid dodge button didn't help matters much. VF doesn't need to have that extra suck button. IV came back and showed why it is the best realistic fighting series.

Yeah, the only thing that made me enjoy the DBZ games is that I am still a fan but they are lacking, and severely so, any depth when it comes down to fighting games. They are still fun though but so its Rival Schools, and at least that resembles a more classic fighter.
And what the ****, am I the only fan of Rival Schools here, that thing rocked balls.

If you want to talk about the worst series in fighting games, it must be Guilty Gear series. Rival Schools is much better than stupid GG.

Holier than thou people dislike guilty gear because they have a problem with any fighter that has a double jump option. Plus a lot of people think the game is offensive heavy, because they haven’t taken the time to discover all the numerous defensive systems.

Why all fighters and not one?
Street Fighter series - After rehashes, they shut everyone's mouths with the 3 series. Now we have four which looks kinda interesting. Can't wait to play
King of Fighters series - Rehashes yet it maintained the awesome feel that would never keep me from playing. XII will make every fighting game shit their pants =3
Soul Edge/ Calibur series - Series came a long way with other 3d fighters. Great Improvement. SC4 speaks for itself. CAN'T WAIT FOR THE OH!Great design of Ashlotte!
Tekken series - Awesome.
Virtua Fighter series - challenging, hard time to figure out how to play. In a whole different league than Tekken but it ain't haulin' ass either.
Dead or Alive series - Uhh.. Why add this piece of shit series? It wasn't that fun and anyway..Replace this shit with Fatal Fury, Last Blade, Samurai Spirits or even Art of fighting ;p.
Dragon Ball Z series - If they cut it out with the remakes.. I might just purchase the real games and not bootleg'em. Now we have Burst REHASH for the ps3. Which is lame too >=3 COME ON , BANDAI MAKE SOMETHING LIKE YOU DID WITH HYPER DIMENSION OR BETTER YET.. GIVE IT TO ARC SYSTEMS SO THEY CAN TEACH YOU HOW TO DO IT.
Guilty Gear series - I guess I can say I enjoyed the living hell out of GGX2 but it went out of hand once again. Accent Core PLUS is the final game with the last pieces of storyline everyone needs to know about the Post-War and "That Man". It's fun but I suggest you pray for a US release on one of the consoles. the Xbox games were a real bad move.
Mortal Kombat series - Love them. Hands down. Deadly Alliance was alright. Deception answered back flawlessly. Armageddon was a natural disaster and a fatality.
Killer Instinct series - We need a revival on ths one. Agreed?
Thas' it for now I guess..

Between perfect defense, burst, and characters like Baiken, Faust, Axl, etc, of course defense isn't under-represented in the game. But really now, are you trying to suggest that Guilty Gear doesn't emphasize offense?
Edit: Also I really don't know why Raidou sees Guilty Gear as so bad, when Mortal Kombat exists and is still thriving. I think a lot of people dislike Guilty Gear because, like Marvel, there's a lot of emphasis on mix-ups. Not a bad thing, just different strokes for different folks.

Of course, I though he meant Great Gatsby, Gong Gopher or any of the other multiple things GG could be an abbreviation of.
Guilty Gear is one of the most intense fighting games I've ever played. I've had a fight last five minutes and come down to a sliver of life and blinking could of cost me the match two or so minutes into the match. Probably my favorite lose I ever had in a fighting game too. I was shaking from the adrenaline. While on the hand, I've had a match last five seconds. That's the beauty of Guilty Gear, though.

Whoa, Whoa Whoa. I'll agree that Itagi sure tries to make DoA sound like it's the best series ever, but it's definately not that bad. If you add this vs. Art of Fighting...bleh. It's just like World Heroes which was something you could play in the arcade but never wanted to waste a quarter on. Fighter's Destiny wasn't very good either (some people liked it I suppose). So there are much worse then DoA.
As for Killer Instinct? Hopefully that series doesn't come back. Never had interest in it and it's abnoxiously loud "Awesome COMBO" tag lines.

No I agree with you completely Nick Guilty Gear does emphasize offense, but only people who have really really played the game understand all the different defensive systems. Because of that, people often say the game is unbalanced, when really they just haven't spent enough time with it.
Raidou
06-13-2008, 04:42 AM
Nikoten always know what I'm trying to say, and that is smart obviously. Also, I'm just making fun out of the similar abbreviation there. Phakiel, why so serious? ^^
I got bad experience playing it in PS2. The feel is just not right. I think it shared the same problem like Samurai Showdown when it was made into the console version. Yaa, GG is much more fun only if played in the arcade.
edit: oh LG is right there too on another issue. Very unbalance for some characters, too strong.
Nickoten
06-13-2008, 05:04 AM
Guilty Gear is pretty balanced now, from what the competitive players are saying. But then, after #Reload, Slash, Accent Core, and Accent Core Plus, it's now had as many official revisions (Not including Isuka) as Street Fighter 2, so really it'd be a shame if it wasn't incredibly balanced.

That is what I call a real fan of DBZ. TB3 is awesone with the revised combo system. I really like how I can easily do vanishing moves, is darn complicated at first but it come so natural if you just spend time to do a little practice on it.
Phakiel, you should really try out DBZ: TB3 on one fine day when you are less moody/ angry as compared to now.

Yup! Totally agree on reviving KI. It was rumoured that KI3 would be released by Microsoft for the Xbox 360, but it's still has yet to be confirmed.
I thought Americans love DOA so much that they even made it as one of the compulsary games for that I forgotten video gaming show they show in tv. They have this Counter Strike, then a racing game, etc. Anyone remember this show? I personally hate DOA. Is a VF wannabe for what I remember. And the recent DOA movie sux too.
Yes yes! KOF12 will make all fighting game series shit their pants alright. Who are your favourite characters from the KOF series? I hope they will bring back K9999 but I know they won't coz he is dead according to the story.
Brian
06-13-2008, 11:50 AM
Basically the third game is a complete version of TB 1 and 2. More characters, little more tweaks added here and there. In short : a rehash. With Burst Limit, I thought they were going to do something different but its just another pathetic rehash with perfect cel animation. Nothing else. The English dub will always remain to follow their own dialogue and not the original (but who am i kidding? they covered it a million times from the original Budokai Trilogy and now the Tenkaichi trilogy...Lame yes?).
Sorry if most of you see it the other way around but its been too long and Bandai needs to give them up. They would milk a series hard yet they wont bother much with Yu Yu Hakusho and that fighting game was a boring disaster. Look at Fist of the North Star . They turned out just fine.
@Raidou - We probably won't see K9999 at all because characters like Angel, May Lee and k9999 were created by EOLITH and because of their selfish minds, we haven't seen them in years. It didn't really canon the storyline but it would've been amazing to see them again. A good example is Neowave for the XBOX, they never included certain characters yet the ps2 import version has all of them.
As for DOA..don't get me started on the movie lol. I was forced and had to blaze strong to enjoy a good laughter. Kevin Nash? wtf...;p
@nickoten - I have ggpo. we should go at it once in a while ;p. I only hope you have good connection cause some girl I know recommended it to me. Saying that it has no lag which was hardcore bullshit. Most of my moves never connect and now the majority use this emulator cuz "its better than kawaks and mame".
Nickoten
06-13-2008, 03:40 PM
There's no input lag, which means that if you have a high ping you're more likely to see the frame rate drop or see small bits of desynching for the sake of keeping the input lag down. You can actually change it now in a menu, and opt for more input lag and a smoother game. But really it depends on where you live, and probably if you have your ports forwarded. I'm in Cleveland here, what city are you in?
Brian
06-13-2008, 06:16 PM
My connection's great. My ping is either 0 most of the time or 1 which isn't that big of a deal. I live in NJ so it shouldn't be too bad.
Now that I have a new computer, sure, Nick. I'll redl ggpo.
Nickoten
06-13-2008, 09:01 PM
Excellent. I'm going to be a little busy this weekend but in the next week or so if we can get organized in GGPO maybe I'll start our own little fighting game "league." We can have titles and other such shit, it'll be grand.

Just to throw out there but Street Fighter IV is now confirmed for a PS3/Xbox 360 release eventually. PC as well. That's good news for the fans of the series who will be able to beat each other up online.
http://the-magicbox.com/game20080527.shtml
As for the DoA movie...Blegh, I think the only good thing about it was the fight scene with Hayabusa trying to sneak into the lab for information and he beats down a number of useless fighters along the way.
