Okay, part two of my other thread...

Same Basic Rules, except this time you pick three people from today's world, or the world within the very recent past to sit, and have dinner with. Who would you pick and why?

Once again, I will answer this evening...

Not sure how strictly you would define "contemporary" but these are all in the same vein anyway:

Charles Darwin
Richard Dawkins
Jared Diamond

Noam Chomsky
George Orwell

Neil Armstrong-Gotta talk to the first man upon the moon(no conspiracy theorists, alright)

Seth McFarlane-Just to see if he really is that crazy

Bill Gates-So I could slip him some poison;)

This one is a might easier for me.

I'd want three VERY specific men at the table so I could pick their brains and hope that in the end, we'd walk out of there with a wonderful partnership to just launch a full frontal assault on the senses and imagination of the world.

Those men?

Neil Gaiman, Tim Burton and Terry Gilliam.

Runner Ups include: Guillermo Del Toro, Joss Whedon, Hart D. Fisher, Lewis Carrol(Even though he's dead...just sayin, for the creative partnership), Stephen King.

Nice choices there. You stole two of mine, so I'll have to think up some more. :p

I keep trying to put a lot of thought into this, but the musician in me keeps demanding I answer Nobuo Uematsu, Akira Yamaoka, and Joe Hisaishi. Is it sad that I pick all Japanese composers? I just adore playing music from all three of them on my piano, and I would feel incredibly honored to be able to spend even a minute in their presence.

Some of you guys are silly, honestly. Tim Burton? That guy's a ****ing bore. Go watch an interview and laugh at his awkward ass.

I'd probably just surround myself with babes. But if I wanted to learn from anyone, I'd need to put some serious thought toward who I'd pick. Burton surely has nothing to teach me unless I want more effective methods of sucking ass.

Watch that mouth. The guy is a genius.

I bet you like Shyamalan too.

Burton's a joke. He appeals to misfits who cling to Nightmare Before Christmas because it's got skeletons and lots of black.

Your opinion is noted, and rejected as being obviously uninformed. But hey, you're from Canada.

Nightmare? Sure. Great Movie.

But apparently you're forgetting all of the following:
Edward Scissorhands
Sleepy Hollow
Ed Wood
Big Fish
Sweeney Todd
Beetlejuice
The First 2 Batman Movies
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
and the upcoming Alice in Wonderland

Not to mention the uncredited work he's done on ALOT of old Disney Animated movies.

Also, his illustrated books are great. "The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy" is a masterpiece.

Sometimes I think Burton is a one trick pony. His movies are all sort of the same to me- all trying a little too hard to be dark and edgy. Not that I don't enjoy his movies, but I just get rather tired of him.

3 people from today?

-Ronan Seamus Farrow (son of Woody Allen and Mia Farrow and a human rights activist genius- really. He's awesome and my age, if you know what I mean ;) )

-Bill Gates

-George Bush

Hyde, look. Look at the movies you posted. Most of them are shit. The ones that are not are tolerable because they have Johnny Depp or a chick in a leather cat suit.

Tim Burton sucks. He has imagination, but to list him as one of three people in the world you'd meet is inane.

Also you guys are fatties.

He doesn't suck. I would just say overrated. And Nightmare Before Christmas is a great movie.

I thought people liked it cuz it has nice songs. :(

You Know what I heard about life? That some people like one thing and some people like another.

Why is it some people will argue with you over what you like? I don't get it.

Cliff Garrett: Founder of Garrett. A company heavily involved with turbo-chargers and turbine engines. They makes some of the best turbo-chargers in the world IMO.

Steve Wozniac: Steve Jobs and Bill Gates just aren't interesting enough and I want to talk to one of the three creators of the modern PC.

Bruce Lee: Not only was he a great marital artist but he was also a philosopher.

No, he's pretty much right on the money. The legacy of Tim Burton is sustained by people who shop at Hot Topic and carry Jack Skellington lunchboxes.

Nightmare? Sure. Great Movie.Nice animation, anyway.

But apparently you're forgetting all of the following:
(1)Edward Scissorhands
(2)Sleepy Hollow
(3)Ed Wood
(4)Big Fish
(5)Sweeney Todd
(6)Beetlejuice
(7)The First 2 Batman Movies
(8)Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
1. Crap (Seriously, why do people like this movie so much?)
2. Crap, who gives a shit. Biggest waste of Albert Finney and Jessica Lange EVER.
3. Okay, but only because the cast was awesome, esp. Martin Landau and Vincent D'Onofrio. Johnny Depp was ****ing annoying in this, but managed to completely redeem himself (with change) the following year with Dead Man.
4. Crap
5. Didn't see it.
6. Awesome, truly.
7. Retarded (x2!)
8. Complete garbage

You forgot Planet of the Apes (obvious) and Corpse Bride (worse than Planet, maybe). And Pee Wee's Big Adventure (easily the best of the three, but not nearly as awesome as the TV show), but that one is understandable because it doesn't fit into your "I'm super arty and cultured and professional and edgy" socialite goth persona. Srsly.

and the upcoming Alice in Wonderland
Yeah, I saw that one and it was awesome. Excellent example.

Not to mention the uncredited work he's done on ALOT of old Disney Animated movies.
Which ones (aside from those where his art was rejected, I mean)?

You Know what I heard about life? That some people like one thing and some people like another.

Because anytime an opinion is put before the public it becomes fair game for commentary. Check your premises.

My three peeps:
1. Werner Herzog
2. Richard Feynman
3. Nelson Algren

if you need to constantly critique and criticize other people's opinions about what they like, you really need a more constructive hobby. You don't have to like what I like. I like what I like. Nor do I have to agree with you.

So you have a nice day and get over it, and realize I don't actually care if you disagree with me. :D It's my choice. I Made my choice. I'm the one that has to live with it. You pick someone else if Burton isn't your cup of tea. I feel no further reason to keep writing about this.

on with the thread...

Psh. If people lick Burton's balls I feel the need to point out that he sucks. I'm cool with people liking him, but picking him as one of three people in the world you'd meet is... ah! I don't know. It's shocking.

Then again, I wouldn't want to meet anyone. So that could be seen as worse than wanting to meet a massive turd like Timmy.

Maybe Tim Burton gives really good head. It would explain his movie career, at least.

That being the case, I could see why Hyde wants to have dinner with him.

You should do an artistic photo shoot of that (but please do not show me it).
