I am a little bored tonight, and I am going through my videogame music folder, and I started to think about all of the favorite tracks and soundtracks to games that I really enjoy and remember. I think I have always had a soft spot for Uematsu's Final Fantasy work. For me, it made the game so much better in many ways. I also absolutely love Chrono Trigger's soundtrack, but I do not know many that disagree with any of Mitsuda's work (even though I have not heard it all). Suikoden I and II are also favorites as well.

What are some of yours?

Liberi Fatali - Final Fantasy 8
One-Winged Angel - Final Fantasy 7
We're just Parasite (if not mistaken) - Parasite Eve 1

I think I remember only this, as well as the Opera Scene in Final Fantasy 6.

I really love the CT soundtrack as well. It's really held up in despite being quite old and on, what could be considered, really poor quality MIDI type format. I've got a bit of a soft spot for the Blue Dragon soundtrack as well. Grandia I and II, Skies of Arcadia and both Lunar games are nice as well. I like a lot of upbeat style music.

Of the soundtracks that I've actually purchased they are...

CT (Single Disk)
Xenogears OST
Skies of Arcadia OST
Blue Dragon OST
Grandia (can't think of the name but it's only a small disk with 5 tracks on it). Something like Grandia History disk.

This isn't including the pack in disks like the one for Lunar 1/2, SMT: Nocturne, Phantom Brave and others.

I never purchase any soundtracks. I just download them off the Internet. :D

I enjoy the arrangement CDs that the composer or other composer's put out for videogames. Hayabusa and I would always have the argument which is better: Xenogears Creid or Chrono Trigger Brink of Time. I would always go with Chrono Trigger, but I actually did buy Creid for $5 on Ebay. I remember being so happy about that. The first arrangement I did buy for a game, however, happened to be Final Fantasy VIII: Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec. I am still in love with that CD.

I don't mind those kinds of compilations but I prefer the source material much more. I do like to hear some of the stuff that people on OCREMIX put together. Some of the remixers are really talented individuals. Haven't been to the site in quite some time though.

I live for Terra's Theme. I believe Tina is the appropriate title.

EDIT: Almost forgot At Zanarkand. My soul doth long for such beautified sounds to always infill me!

To Zanarkand? Also: ugh.

The Chrono Trigger soundtrack is second only to FF6 for me.

Looks like we have the similar collection of OST! What a coincidence! Original OST was hard to come by over here in Malaysia. I bought the Xenogears Creid OST when I was in Japan. Its CD coverart was stolen from my domitry room but I was lucky that the CD was not stolen as it was inside my portable CD Player that I always carry along. Love it still!

Got the CT Brink of Time from my friend, I asked him to get it for me when he went for a business trip to HK. I also got the FFVIII OST (4 CDs) and FFV Friends OST during my HK trip. All just fantastic!

I wish I own the ori of the FF Pray collection OST. I used to have the digital MP3 files of it but it was lost when the HD crashed. Sad sad sad :-(

You named off all of mine. I also really like the Chrono Cross soundtrack.

Every time I listen to either the CT or the Suiko soundtracks, it makes me want to go out and play the games again.

It has already been mentioned but pretty much the entire Xenogears soundtrack is goddamn memorable. Also, Creid.

I didn't like Xenogear's soundtrack. I don't know ... too gothic-like for my taste.

Gothic? Xenogears OST wasnt gothic, that wouldnt have made a lick of sense.

You are gonna tell me Melkaba is gothic? I could handle say, Grahf's theme, that could almost be Gothic, almost. But Dajil, Stairs of Light, Lahan, hell all of them are everything but Gothic.

I think the word you are looking for is celtic.

Phakiel, don't bother explaining to him. Who the hell care whether is gothic or celtic!

Siyama, it doesnt what you think! Creid is awesome, period.

Well, its like saying "But Pancho, I dont like AC/DC because is too country".

Just doesnt make sense. I would have understood if it was too melodramatic for him, or something like that.

But Gothic? I think that gothic would be more akin to Mitsuda's work on Shadow Hearts because the games do have some gothic elements in them, but not Xenogears.

For me two of the most memorable are completely different. The first is the FFVII main theme which is melancholy and the other is Otherworld form FFX, which is more metal(I am a bit of a metalhead). I honestly need to check for more vg music, I recall there being good music in other games I have played but these two stuck with me. The main them of FFVII is kinda like the main Star Wars theme for me. When the first new Star Wars, since I was kid, came out, my favorite moment of the whole movie was at the first. I honestly started shaking hearing the main SW theme(the rest of the experience was OK in comparison). The main theme to FFVII is sorta like that, it makes me want to go buy a PS1 and the game again.

Well, this may sound kind of weird (thankfully, I'm on a forum full of people who are weirder), but for the past week I've been listening to the Final Fantasy IX soundtrack, almost non-stop. So, for the moment, at least, Final Fantasy IX is my number one OST from an RPG. As for actual tracks, Fortress Pandemonium is my all time favorite. I also like Cleyra's Trunk, Kingdom of Burmecia, Unforgettable Face, Kuja's Theme, and The Darkness of Eternity.

Then the following:

Final Fantasy XII
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
Chrono Cross
Chrono Trigger

That last one is mostly out of nostalgia.
