Has anyone else played this game or is playing it? I know that Dire, has been playing it off and on but seems like this game was overlooked.
I've put in a good 7 hours into the game so far. It's an interesting game to say the least but it's dragged down but a few problems. One being that it's feels so clunky. Kaim just doesn't move in a very natural way as compared to a normal person and it hurts to control scheme. Second is the lack of interesting music. It just feels really bland and generic. Finally...the voice acting, which is horrible to say the least. I would have to believe that after 2 console generations with the ability to use spoken voice we could finally get some quality in a current gen RPG, but LO sure does nothing to help the cause.
Aside from the problems, I am interested in the game and it's unfolding slowly. The battle system is also a little boring but I'm enjoying it none the less.
Thoughts?
Seems as though Mistwalker hasn't gotten much love from RPG players here at Allrpg for some reason. Blue Dragon and now Lost Odyssey.

I'm still on the first disc, I think I'm around 15-18 hours in. I like the story I've seen, but I don't love the combat, somehow it just seems a bit stale and boring to me. I think I would like it better if I totally ignored the ring system, and could only half pay attention to the battles, like I do with other games, lol.
One thing that I didn't think I'd like at the beginning of the game was the Dreams, but I've ended up being really moved by quite a few of them. And some really nice revelations about his past just unfolded, and got me interested again.
One thing that really bugs me is that little piece of hair in Kaim's face. It reminds me of an old Looney Tunes cartoon about a little quail, always blowing that little feather out of his face. And Seth's(is that the right name? the girl with blue hair) hair looks like a head of cabbage from behind.
I'd probably be back to it today, but I haven't been able to get to me tv since Weds. because my son as a friend over, and they've been playing Gears of War the whole time.

Yeah I think they are a little long winded, but interesting to say the least. There is definately no lack of story in the game. It's interesting to learn about the things Kaim has done and he needs to recollect all of them.

Yeah for sure. Graphically as a whole, the game doesn't really deliever as much as promised. It feels weak in a lot of areas. Seth's character rendering is quite horrible as a whole, not just the stupid hair. The lighting effects and water effects are quite nice though.

Well since you are only a little bit a head of me, I'll race you to disk 4. Maybe I can encourage you to play through the whole game. :)

Hehe, deal! Our company should be going home this evening, I'll try to knock out the rest of FFXII, and I'll get back into it!

Well, it's all about you and me in this thread I suppose Dire. Fine by me, since our community has seemingly decided to avoid 360 RPGs for some odd reason. I'm still hacking away at the game. I just finished the part in Uhra and have moved onto the Crimson Forest. Not sure how much of the first disk is left, but it's been quite long thus far. I'm 11 hours in and anticipating the end of it soon. I was actually expecting the emotional scene (for Kaim anyways) to have folded up the disk and started part 2.

I think that's right around where I left off, I guess I'm going to have to get a move on, get back into it!

It's a decent enough game; story is interesting, but the characters blow. Of the five immortals, only Seth has an interesting and likable personality. If it weren't for Seth and Sed, the entirety of the cast would be unbearable, and I would go so far as to say that the kids are the two most hated characters I've ever encountered.
And buckle yourself in for the music video in the third/fourth disc; it's a whole heap of awkward.

I'm on the 4th disc ready to beat it. I'm about to head into a side quest dungeon that ripped me apart last time I tried going through it...
The characters are very meh for me. Kaim is ok as the main character but we'll see he had to grow on me. I could only say that 3 other cast members are enjoyable.
Graphically, I think it could have used some touch up... but overall, it looks nice.
Audio is great although some of the voices could have been better...
Battle system has been great. I don't find myself getting bored yet, even at the 4th disc. The time-frame of spells is a little frustrating at times when you really need a quick cure, etc.
Sidequest content is pretty large. I did cheat with Gamefaqs to get a lot of it done, and it was pretty extensive.
The story could have been better in my opinion. It seems to generic for me with a hint of immortality. The way the characters came together is good and makes sense (I hate when a character joins for no damn reason).
Overall, the game gets much better in the third and fourth disc when you're getting more and more abilities and slots for equipment and skills. I have put off the game for a few days because I hate finishing a good game. I like to let it drag out so I can come back a week later and say "oh yeah, now I remember why I liked this game".
The end.
I played it for about an hour, and I was kind of impressed. Going to have to give it more time, before I'm bought over, of course.

Music video? WTF? Ewww.
I haven't gotten far enough into the game to know much more about Seth other then the pirate part of her life and meeting the queen. She seems okay, but nothing really special. Kaim's story has more appeal to me because we learn about his life through the 1000 years of dream sequences, which I've actually enjoyed reading through. Jansen, is just....horrible to say the least. Cooke doesn't bother me as much as he does.

You end up reading Dreams from all of the Immortals, even though the bulk are centered around Kaim. The largest drawback from the Dream sequences is that those that are written for Kaim seem to be completely unassociated with the character that is presented; we read about him doing these things, but it is hard for us to picture the Kaim that we play as doing anything described. The other Immortals, however, fit their dreams much more fluidly. Perhaps this could be a positive for Ming, but Ming is just ****ing annoying, so it doesn't matter.

I'm not getting very far myself. My stupid tv keeps turning itself off at random times, and I don't want to be somewhere important in a game, so I haven't been playing much at all.

I guess that is the point though. We don't know much about Kaim and neither does he. He is searching for the answers to all that he is done. I see your point though, as it feels like he did all these things but they don't cumulate to any sort of reason as to who he is now.
Just started up on the second disk finally with a play time of about 20 hours thus far. Still enjoying the game for the most part.
"Puberty is weird"
probably one of the best quotes I've seen in an RPG in a while. It's just so ridiculous.

Well I'm onto the 3rd disk now. I can't help but start to dislike Cooke and Mack. They were okay at the begining and a nice little addition to the overall story but they have quickly become annoying and boring. I've grown tired of their... whining over the death of Lirum so many times. The plot point of Immortals vs. Mortals is becoming more interesting finally and I hope to learn more following the end of the 3rd disk.

I know, I hate that! He looks like that quail in those old cartoons.
I've been having some problems lately, so I won't be able to join you in beating this one any time soon Sushi, but I'll be playing it early next year most likely.

How old is that screen shot though? That's not from the finished product. I will agree though, I don't know what the deal is with the hair. Basically everyone in the game has a terrible hair style though.
That's too bad Matron. Hopefully you can get through it some time soon though. I just finished disk 3 and started disk 4. I have to say... I have no idea why they had that terrible music video in the game, but I did suffer through it as DSB stated we would.

Reading the dreams was the most engaging part of the game.

I beat Lost Odyssey shortly after it was released and I loved it. The battle system did feel a little dated but it worked extremely well. The presentation of the battles helped to keep them interesting.
As for the graphics I was completely blown away. The emotion thats you see in the characters faces is just amazing. I cant think of any jrpg that has better graphics then LO.
Unlike some of you I never had any problems with the voice acting. I thought it was very well done for the most part. Did you guys know that the guy who does Kaim's voice also played Bosch in FFXII? Just a little fun fact I thought I should bestow upon you guys :).
Anyway I thought it was awesome. So far its my favorite rpg of this console generation.

Interesting to hear that this is your favorite RPG thus far. What others have you managed to tackle? Just curious.
I think the graphics are pretty good and the addition of battle equipment actually appearing on the characters through out the game is a nice touch but overall it's not as impressive as I thought it would be. Some of the locales were really nice though Numara comes to mind.
I only finished this game a few weeks ago but it's still pretty fresh in my mind.

Blue Dragon, Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery, and Eternal Sonata.
Id like to add the fact that I was talking about JRPGs. I would take Oblivion or Mass Effect over Lost Odyssey any day.

Loved the first two discs, but I started to get bored as the game piled on more and more characters. Should have focused on Kaim instead of tossing in a sex symbol and Parom and Palom.
Speaking of annoying twins, I have Infinite Undiscovery as well. Twins within 15 minutes of first playthrough.
