I'm a big fan of the modern 2D Castlevanias, so it came as a shock that I hadn't even heard there was a new one coming to the DS. I literally just found out, by chance. Looks amazing as usual. Now I just need to figure out how I can repair my DS... it's semi-borked.

As with the previous games in the series, on handhelds, it looks pretty good. Brand new character might make for something very interesting. I do miss seeing a Belmont in the staring role. Seems like it could be a very long time before Konami decides to get back into that kind of groove. Looks to be yet another must have for the DS.

I think it may just be that the developers want to give the "Whip + subweapons" gameplay style a rest and see characters outside of the Belmont line as a way to accomplish that. Plus it's not like we're missing anything, I'm sure this game will feature its version of the "Richter/Julius" mode to please fans of that style.

New trailer.

Looks fantastic, I just hope all those extra moves/spells/etc don't bog down the core gameplay. I'm hopeful it'll work, though.

The atmosphere resembles symphony, harmony and aria. Otherwise, the trailer's track sounds promising =].

I bought the first Castlevania that game out for the DS, and I really enjoyed it. I asked the guy at the store the other day when it is coming out. I am looking forward to it, and I am not even a big fan of the series.

Strange that this game has been going under the radar some what. It's not being as hyped up as the other Handheld Castlevania games have been. I'm hoping that it will keep up the high regard of the previous installments while adding some new twists that help, rather then hurt the series.
Still, as I've stated before, I'm waiting for the return of the Belmont family in the staring role.

That's an interesting topic, though. If we were to see another Belmont game, how could they handle the classic Simon-style gameplay while keeping it fresh? It's been in like every Castlevania game to date, after all. My hope is that they actually get their 3D Castlevanias right, and, when they're ready, do Julius's final battle with Dracula on a next gen system. It could be classic Castlevania or Metroidvania style, either way, being done right in 3D would be a nice change of pace.

Curse of Darkness was pretty good, though, wouldn't you say?

Honestly, I haven't actually played the 3D Castlevanias. I've been avoiding them because of what people told me about them. I have heard that Curse of Darkness was better than Lament of Innocense, though. How exactly is the game set up?
CoD is a lot better than LoI, at least from personal prefence.
LoI allows you pretty much only a whip and gives you really bland environments in terms of having the same type of room over and over and over. Boss battles are cool, but there isn't as much exploration as you'd expect. Lots of subweapon coolness, though.
CoD gives you lots of weapons and a weapon forging feature in which you use items baddies have dropped or that you've stolen from them. You have familiars that you can control, and they have a lot of powers and stuff, some of which open up new areas you couldn't normally get to. Lots of customization. The only qualm I have with it is difficulty. The summons/familiars you have can really make it a little easy. Environments are still kinda boring, but they're a huge step up from LoI. Boss Battles are pretty good in general, although a couple are straight up awesome.
Although it's good, I wouldn't put CoD in my top 5 Castlevania titles.
That being said, though, CoD is by far the better game than LoI.
Going on the ubiquitous 10-point scale, I'd give LoI a 6 and CoD an 8.5

Amen. My only problem was they could've done the music alot more better than making it sound like an 8-bit midi file or something.

Technically, Portrait of Ruin's Jonathan Morris was a Belmont.

Technically, he does have Belmont blood in him. As does the Morris clan, but you can claim that for Charlotte as well. I suppose I would just like to see the story of the original family unfold more.
We only know a little about Juste Belmont and Julius as well. It seems like it would only be a matter of time before we finally get to play the 1999 "Final" battle with Julius at the helm.
I just found Harmony of Dissonance at my local Gamestop, and I had been looking for that forever. Now that just leaves the DS titles. Ecclesia will make it three, right?
Does anyone know Ecclesia's release date?
