Nothing against the PSP and what it will potentially have in the future, but it would seem that the DS is the place to be for RPGs.

There is a nice mix of remakes and new games.

Dragon Quest IV
Dragon Quest V
Dragon Quest VI
Dragon Quest IX
Chrono Trigger
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood
World Destruction

others that aren't coming to mind as well.

DS is shaping up to have a fantastic RPG library.

Any thoughts on these upcoming and other titles?

I'm buying a lot of those upcoming titles.

I've been aware of the coming of a lot of RPGs and I'm more happy to be a DS owner than any other system as a result.

So once again, I'll be putting a DS on my Christmas list? This time, I'm keeping it under lock and key!

I want Chrono Trigger and the Dragon Quest games at the very least. CT is my favorite, and I missed all the DQ games because I wasn't playing games yet.

That was me trying to concentrate on typing a reply, while orgasming, at the same time.

Lots of new RPGs for sure, but a disturbing number of them are remakes and sequels (And in the case of the Sonic RPG, something no one wanted, much like that Castlevania fighter). I haven't finished World Ends With You and may not ever despite it seeming worthy enough, but I would like to see more developers starting fresh like the developers did with that game. World Destruction's one, I want to see some more original content.

Hell you'd think it wouldn't be so hard to develop an all new IP on the DS, where it's not only more likely to sell than on other consoles but it'd also be cheaper to develop and thus experiment. But no, developers (Particularly Square Enix to no one's surprise) are playing it as absolutely safe as possible.

The Chrono Trigger remake, along with Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One, and the remake of the original Fire Emblem will finally give me the excuse I needed to buy a DS.

I haven't been into RPGs for a while now, but this stuff is all gold as far as I'm concerned. Too bad most of it probably won't be out until 2009.

Just so you know, the Chrono Trigger remake is not a remake but a port.

Wow, do I detect a little bit of a pessimistic attitude? Are you serious that NO one wants a Sonic RPG? For years a lot of people have wanted to see one come to light. Bioware is one of the best in the business and a great choice for bringing it to life.

I don't think it's so disturbing to see the number of remakes on the DS since it's basically the same on the PSP front.

I'm surprised you aren't excited really at all Nick.

Lodis, I forgot about the Fire Emblem remake. That should be good too. I've never played the original FE game so I'm excited for it.

I have not enjoyed Sonic since the Sega Genesis. An RPG? I am not too sure about it even if BioWare is behind it. I am going to sit back and wait on this one before I jump right on it.

So Sega is having Bioware develop a Sonic RPG for them? That sounds so familiar. Like some other famous company that took their mascot to an eminent RPG developer. It's right on the tip of my tongue. Ah well, that project probably sucked anyway.

World Destruction is that new Monolith RPG isn't it??

I think I remember being pretty impressed by early screen shots.

I was interested until I saw footage of the game, which looked unbearably slow. I'll keep an eye on it, sure, but I'm not filled with glee at the thought.

See, at the time we were still getting plenty of good Mario games, though. In the case of Sonic, we don't really have a lot of quality, and hearing the promise of a new Sonic game that's turning out to be a Sonic RPG, well, you can understand why some would be disappointed. I'm not foolish enough to say that I'm speaking for everyone, my previous statement was hyperbole. However, it's also the mindset that these companies have going into these projects, and what bothers me is that Sonic seems to be played straight faced constantly in the most ridiculous of scenarios.

I mean, look at the title: Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. I don't know, I just have a gut feeling that this game is going to try and appeal to teens and pre-teens by having something of a grim and serious atmosphere, or at least an attempt at one, and that gives me a bad feeling compared to the Mario RPG project, which never took itself seriously. I hope I'm going to be proven wrong, but you have to understand that to me these projects look like polar opposites in tone.

By the way, the interview I'm referencing is here (http://ds.ign.com/articles/852/852731p2.html).

True, remakes are the policy of the day for the PSP, too, but that doesn't really excuse it to me. And it's not like I'm not going to be playing all of these games, it just annoys me that we're getting such a huge amount of remakes when one would think the DS would be relatively safe to experiment on.

Wait, what? What about the touch screen?

Nickoten

There will be touch screen functionality, but the game's pretty much being advertised as the Playstation version but without the loading problems, a new dungeon, and some wireless option. I just don't see that as a remake, not when that's about what FF V and VI Advance had added.

I'm just waiting on the remake of Fire Emblem, Disgaea, and when I can, I'm buying FFTA2.

Not so sure about the Valkyrie Profile game. I only played about a couple of hours in the first one and put it down. Have not touched the game since. I think I just had a hard time figuring out what in the hell was going on.

Darn. At least it's Chrono Trigger, though.

Hah, that's the kicker. We know this and unfortunately for us, Square knows this, too. :p
