View Full Version : Ideal locations

So I was talking with Jarrid yesterday and the question"where would you rather live?" sort of popped up.
My ideal location is a big city. My list of places to live in is:
1. London
2. Manhattan
3. Tokyo
I'm into the urban scene. As I'm a street artist the streets are inspiring to me. The advertising posters everywhere, the cars, the noise, all those people each with their story, all the chaos, all the different styles people have... It's heaven for me.
I couldn't live in the country. It's too boring, no skating parks, no competition, no pollution, it's just not real.
Where would you like to live?

As a matter of fact FE, I would choose your three picks as well to love in. I like big cities and buildings. For some reason they give me peace since it relaxes me to think that I have my basic needs covered. I detest the country. Well, not that hard, I can handle it for like half a day or something like that, one day even, but would never choose to live at those places.
The beach on the other hand, maybe I could take that life. But I would have to have commodities, like the internet and easy access to toilet paper.

I really do not know where I would like to live. I have not been to very many places, and I am use to living out in the country. If I were to move to a very large city, I am not sure if I would fit in well. Anxiety might go up a little.

The beauty of the city is that you're free to be whatever you want. Everyone fits in, and everyone is too busy to judge you.
My life is complete between London and Paris. :) If I ever have to move, it would be to Tokyo.

Arroyo Grande, CA or San Luis Obispo, CA. They're both in the same county, about 15 miles apart. They're about 10-15 minutes away from the California coast line. I love the coast, and I love decent sized cities (SLO is definitely decent sized, as it has the university Cal Poly). San Luis Obispo is one of those cities that to me, seems like a fake city made up for a movie. Because it's oustandingly beautiful. VisitSLO.com (http://www.visitslo.com/). They have these amazing farmers markets all summer long, where they close down several blocks, and there's fruit, all kinds of food, musical acts, and all other kinds of things you can think of. Arroyo Grande is very similar to SLO, as far as it looks like some fictional place. lol Beautiful place.
Why these places rather than anywhere else in the world? I'm a freaking California girl! I'm not leaving my state permanently. I tried to move to Phoenix, and within 5 days I decided it was a ridiculous idea.

I don't really mind crowds, but here I can avoid them by going up or down a street.

I'd like to live on a small sphere, maybe 20 miles in diameter, that orbits Jupiter at a distance of approximately 530,000km, which should put me between Europa and Io.
EDIT: And I would like a small rocket ship -- so I can jump over to Io for groceries.

HOLY Crap, one of my dreams is going over to Vancouver sometime. It looks stunning. I'd say if I couldn't have gone to Montreal myself, I would've gone to Vancouver. The weather would've been soooo much better.
Other than that, I need to live in a big city. I could never stand living in a town, or the country. I'm pretty sure I'll always live in a city, as long as I have the choice.
Well, other than Vancouver (and Montreal and NYC, since I've already lived there), some ideal places I'd really like to live in for at least a while would be:
Buenos Aires
Barcelona
London
And what the hell, Tokyo too. Visited, and I loved it. Wouldn't mind being there at all.
Recently, the question of "Where do I want to move next?" has been popping into my head. Now, this line of thought is limited only to Canada, but I've decided on either Maple Ridge, British Columbia; Newmarket, Ontario; or Whitehorse, Yukon.

Depends on what country. I didn't think that the people in Japan were very friendly as a whole. They seemed to have a lot more interest in what they were doing and didn't care much about others. On one hand that's great because no one bothers you, but on the other, it's nice when people are willing to help you out if you need it.
I don't know where I'd like to live. I've practically lived on a farm for a number of years and I wouldn't mind going back to that life. I don't mind the city as well though. I suppose I might pick Singapore if I choose a city. If my dream comes true...then I'll live in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Ew. I hope you have some personal reasoning to move to Maple Ridge, because there is no other suburb in Greater Vancouver that I would rather not live in. All that pollution and smog from the inner city blows inland and funnels into the Fraser Valley. Maple Ridge's place near the mountains at the north of the valley means that cruddy air just stops and hangs over the town.

Of the places I've been to, I think I would be most happy in Akureyri, Iceland, Boston, Mass (or some inner suburb like Cambridge, Jamaica Plain, Brookline, or Newton), New York City, Chicago, or Santa Fe, New Mexico.
I'll be living in Mexico and England next year and traveling quite a bit more to various parts of Europe and possibly Central America/Cuba as well, so I'll be more informed then. But just by judging from my preconceptions of places that I haven't visited now, I'd most like Oaxaca, Mexico, London (one of the suburbs close to the Underground more likely), Prague, Copenhagen, Malmo, Stockholm, or Granada, Spain.

Negative. Last I heard the construction on I-75 is going to be a 4 year project. So for us schmucks that live south of the river, we pretty much have to take Jefferson into the city. Not cool.

Every country has it's idiots, America included. That isn't to say that all the french people are bashers either, but they are the majority there. America has it's flaws but we have pulled other nations feet out of the fire too many times for there to be such venom from these same countries towards us. No, I have never been personally to France but I have met quite a few of the French people. They were, all but 1, an insulting, rude group of people. I also have friends and family who have been to France, the majority opinion of them is that hands-down, the French are rude and obnoxious, they think they have a superior way of dealing with the rest of the world. Yeah, by laying down like pussies everytime someone threatens them and then screaming to us bloodthirsty Americans to come save them. Bottom line, France would probably be a great place to go and see, if it weren't for all the French people;)

Yeah, well most Americans, throughout all parts of the country, I talk to everyday on the phone are rude, pricks, and complete inconsiderate assholes as well. Most of them complain about people they cannot understand because they are foreign, and they believe they should return to their own country because they do not belong here. Also, people talk down upon the African-American and Hispanic people that work there saying they are ignorant "(n)iggers" or "wetbacks". I hear this almost all the time at work, and I find it very disturbing.
However, it is not only Americans. People across the globe in general have lost touch with each other as living organisms and human beings of this great vast world and universe (metaverse). Indeed, I believe it is a sad world to live in most of the time.

Mephis, yes there are assholes in America, a bunch of them to be sure. I cringe when I hear the "N" word, I grew up taught better than that. I also have a great niece and a great nephew who are mixed. I love those kids. As far as the mexicans go, I have seen alot of good people who migrated here from Mexico, there are also alot of Mexico's criminal's that have come here(I think that Mexico actually shows them the way across just to be rid of them). I don't subscribe to the hating of any race, creed or religion. I see it everyday though. Some of the hate towards the Mexican population is bred through our own government. They keep making laws to pander to the Hispanic population that actually affects those of us who are paying their salaries(the politicians that is). Also, alot of people are frustrated with the jobs going to Mexico and the mexicans coming in to take jobs here. That I wholly disagree with, we brought that on ourselves. We demanded to be paid more and more when we were comfortable already, therefore companies to stay afloat had to move operations. Our government setup Nafta which added more fuel to the fire. Our population doesn't really want the jobs that the Mexicans are taking. There are just alot of whiners out there. But those people are of all races. With all that said, I still love this country as a whole and I don't need a Frenchman to tell me what is wrong in my own country, let them worry about their own issues.

Yes, my family learned french before traveling there. I have had 3 family members travel across Europe. Two of them had 3 years of french courses and the other studied most of the general phrases needed to communicate there. Most of the rudeness and insults they received were actually in english. My experiences with the french were in NY. I stayed in New York City for a few months. The only civil french person I met there was born in France but actually grew up in Quebec. The other three I talked with tried to treat me like some sub-human species. I was there for work training and any time I spoke up in class, they made some snide comment, nevermind that I was almost always correct. I wasn't the only one they treated this way during this training school. They left everybody in the class(including the guy from Quebec) with a general disdain for the french. Now I am open-minded enough to know that not everybody from France is like these three. Not every person that my family met in France was a total douchebag either, but they said that it was a majority. France was the only country on their tour of Europe that they said they would never want to visit again. You also mentioned what they went through in history, just because a people were once great does not make them always so. In the last century, they have done nothing to make me think they have a collective spine.
With that, I end this debate, you may want to keep it going but you aren't going to change my mind, only the french people themselves can do that.

Hmm :p
I guess your point makes sense. Still, I don't think all that is a reason to attack the country when it comes up in conversation.
France is dirty.
Yep.

France is dirty.
it's also the capital of fashion and alcohol...
models+alcohol=dirty... yeah it's dirty.
Skud is in Quebec, not sure if he's in Montreal or not, but I think he used to be.
For some reason I thought he may have lived in Quebec City. Though, I've never had reason to meet up with him - in his hay day, I was either mostly in the CS, or disappearing from here for months at a time. I remember making a few posts in the CD in '01, but I didn't really take on the community ethic of AllRPG in those days. Opting to be a chat rat instead, or making posts that were several pages long in threads such as "Chrono Cross and the bible." or some such nonsense.
Yes.

I post this from Baby out of another thread
Anyway, most men who think they're popular with the ladies really talk out of their asses and are extremely offensive! It happens at least twice or three times DAILY in France because the French just excel at being twats!
That is something I left out of my earlier statements, all the French that I and my family had issues with were male. The one I mentioned earlier that was born in France but grew up in Quebec was a female. It may just be that the male species of French are the douchebags;)

Sorry for the double post. I maybe got a little hot-headed when posting back. It just steams me every time I think about the pricks I had to deal with. The actual New Yorkers who were there gave me some "grief" the first day, in a fun way, about my accent but that stopped after the first day when they realized that I knew more than anyone in the room, aside from the instructor, about our subject. I became fast buddies with everyone in the class aside from the 3 pricks. Nobody buddied up to them. Also, yes I realize that there is a run-on sentence from hell in this post. I am just too lazy to fix it:D

Really? I thought we all still loved Thanatos?
BTW, love the new Av Fallen. I'm a big DP fan.
As already said, there are jerks everywhere. I don't have a particular fondness for the French but I don't mind them. Same as the English, perhaps it could be said that I like them even less. Mostly because I haven't had good experiences meeting people from England. Just depends on who you meet and the situation that you are in. There is always someone out there that will change your opinion.
