View Full Version : RPGs You Like to Replay

Are there any RPGs that you decide to pick up and start playing again? I always tend to play a Final Fantasy game every year. Always has been some sort of tradition for me. I never seem to finish any of the times I do replay them, though. I get about half-way through every time and stop for some odd reason.

I seem to play Final Fantasy yearly because its in my top 5 and I pick a different party of four each time. In 2007 I played the GBA version so this year I'll be playing the NES one. In 2006 I played the NES one. I always alternate. There's no point in the PS1 anymore, to me.
I also play FF4 yearly because its my favorite game of all time. I guess now I'll have to alternate between SNES, DS, SFC, and GBA. The PS & WSC versions are useless.
Really, most of the stuff in my top 10 I try to get to yearly because I can't take too much time without 'em. :)

Mephisto, I have the same problem. I can't think of too many RPGs I've actually sat down and played entirely through without leaving them for a number of weeks, months or years. I don't think I really ever play a game fully through right away. Even the games that I really love. I don't have any answer to that.
Borg, how in the hell do you find enough time to honestly replay that many games every year plus play new games on top of that.
I've only really ever replayed a few games more then once after completing them. CT is one of them. Mass Effect was another. That's really all that comes off the top of my head. I had restarted Grandia at one point but never finished it twice.

I almost never replay games, RPGs included. When I do it will be on that I haven't played for a very long time, like Phantasy Star, or one that's part of a series I want to play together. The latter is why I replayed Geneforge before starting on the rest of that series. I just can't get back into games easily once I've made it though the experience and my 'yet to play' is vast and growing.
After all, why replay Final Fantasy when I could play Dragon Wars to completion for the first time? There are so many RPGs out there for one with more open taste in the genre. While I might replay the occasional classic I just can't see why I'd let myself get so bound up in nostalgia that I'd pass on all sorts of new experiences just to constantly relive old ones.
Edit: There, fixed. I shouldn't post when so tired.

Well, finding time for FF1 and 4 is pretty easy on a yearly basis, but the rest of the great games I try to replay within a 3 year period instead.

I find myself replaying the Suikoden games a lot, and some of the FF games as well. I'd be playing the first two suiko games now, but I'm too lazy (and a bit drunk) to hook up the playstation.

Xenogears. I play it once every year since 1999. Even when my first copy went bad, I got a new one, although it was the Greatest Hit version and it was technically used but in perfect condition.
I would play Final Fantasy VIII every year too but some crack head from high school stole my copy. I need to get a new one.

I still feel bad that I never got to enjoy Xenogears a first time, let alone in replays.
I do still replay FFVIII though.
Xenogears was amazing....I might replay that again if I ever get the time to...but yeah I replay randomly...if I have time too and am not currently wrapped up in something new...
when I do replay I go through my copllection and randomly just pick something out. its nice to try and up yourself in past sessions. :)

I have started about three or four new games on Xenogears, and I still end up putting the game down. I have never beaten it before.

The games I could likely to replay could be :
1. Xenogear (PS1)
and
2. FF8 (PS1)
Can't think much of games in PS2 which I could replay though.
I'm kind of longing to play Final Fantasy IX at the moment. Unfortunately I can't.
I'd like to play Final Fantasy X again sometime. It's been a while since I've played it. It would also be the 4th time I play through it.

I have a really shitty memory, so I like to replay games every once in a while. If I replay Suikoden III, which I've already played twice, I'll encounter a lot of stuff I've forgotten about.
I also really fly through games when I replay them, so it generally doesn't take much time away from new games I purchase. FF6 I replay once a year or so and it is always fun.

For some reason, the two games I've re-played the most are Suikoden 1, and FFX.

I thought I was the only one who did the replay (and reread books, lol) thing because I forget so much about stuff!

Most RPG's I tend to play once or twice and then I'm finished with it. But some games with New Game+ like Chrono Trigger and Tales of Symphonia I have replayed a few times. Though there are certian games that I replay more than just a couple times.
Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen - I replayed quite a few times back when I got the game. I haven't played it much recently though. I don't remember the number but I got quite a few of the ending remember getting the best ending once. Of course since it takes a while to get used Reputation and Alignment ratings to it took me a couple playthroughs before I got anything other than the Bad endings.
Fire Emblem: Seisen no Kiefu - I probably replayed 8 or so times and usually go back to it once every year or two. But thats because of the Lover system that in the first Generation would determine who the parents are for many of the second Generation characters. I would replay the game to try many different combinations to give the kids different skills, weapons, and stats.
Tactics Ogre: Let us Cling Togather - I have probably played 5 or so times because of the 3 different Alignment paths that you can choose. Also there is story event that changes the ending and main characters.
Seiken Densetsu 3 - Replayed a few times since you can use different characters (and each character has 4 different final classes) each time you play the game.

There are only a handful of games I've replayed, and they are: Seiken Densetsu 3 (At least 3 times with my brothers), Legend of Dragoon (Screw you all, I thought this game was awesome), Tales of Symphonia (I think about twice with my brothers, then on and off when they replayed a 4th time.), Super Robot Taisen: OG2, and of course Chrono Trigger. I wanted to see some of the other endings.
Though I used to replay certain RPGs back in the day, I don't do so that much anymore. I simply don't have the time to dedicate to the old games as well as the new. Occasionally I might replay games that aren't RPGs, but mostly because they often times don't require as much attention. The average RPG probably hits somewhere around 40 hours, where other games don't usually go too far beyond maybe ... 13? The last RPG I recall replaying was Final Fantasy VIII, a personal favorite, and perhaps one of my most played games ever.

For some weird reason, I always feel like playing FF9 around winter. No idea what it is, but something about that first day of cold weather makes me love moogles...
I've been playing the hell out of Okami recently; I just can't get sick of it. Probably 'cause it gives me an edge on my Japanese Art History class. It's also absolutely beautiful.
I'll replay a lot of the games I like if there's replay incentive. Like, starting all over again, but retaining your level and items. Vagrant Story was a good example. There's even a dungeon that can only be tackled after several replays (you can try it after one replay, but you will die). Brilliant game.
Xenogears I actually took notes on the second playthrough.
Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter also made you restart several times to get the most out of it.

I could replay FF7 for all eternity. Ive also played through Fable and Chrono Cross quite a few times. Hmm... Kotor and Mass Effect are the only other ones that come to mind.

Probably FF7 since I almost finishing Crisis Core. Also, would love to play some older SMT titles if I can find the time.

I've replayed very few RPGs. The only ones I can think of that I've completed more than once are FFVII, Suikoden, and Suikoden II.

I just don't have the time to bother playing through most games more then once. I have over 100 RPGs to deal with so I don't get around to doing it. Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Phantasy Star IV, Shining Force 1 and 2 and Mass Effect are the only ones that instantly come to mind. With CT and ME being finished 3 or more times over. That said there are some games I have that I should replay like Grandia 1 and 2, Skies of Arcadia and Panzer Dragoon Saga.

I usually skip the story which saves 20 hours, and if items and stuff carry over I don't bother regetting them. Though Wild Arms 4, takes like 30 hours, but I ran back through and got everything done in about 20 (with 2x exp.)

I used to replay games more often when I was younger. Now I barely have enough time to play the new ones. But here's the short list...
FF2/4
FF3/6
FF7
FF: Tactics (thank god for PSP version)
Chrono Trigger
Suikoden 1-3
Xenogears

I think I'm going to start replaying Suikoden II today since WoW servers are down for maintenance.

I think I've played Suikoden 1 and 2 the most. I get the urge to replay them almost every year, but I must restrain myself and continue on with the backlog.

i did it a while back with vagrant story. for some reason replaying old games always makes me feel as though the life's being sucked outta me. i don't know why i keep trying it, it just never works out very well for me.
