I only used the ignore list on the last forums.

Right now my buddy list is:

Cyrus the virus
Joe
Atlas
Jarrid
Dire
EB

I only have 2 people in my ignore list:

Dreamless
Syrus.

Well, I do not have a single poster on my buddies list or anyone on my ignore list.

The only person I have set up as 'blocked' on any kind of website is on Facebook, and that person is my ex-girlfriend.

As far as I know the buddy list only puts a plus next to the person you selected.

but the ignore list makes it so you can't read the selected person's posts.

You can, you just don't go and see them, don't invite them to your parties, ignore everything they say. I don't want to be ina group with people I don't like.

It's not that easy. My friend's roommate is extremly annoying but everytime i go over to the house he hangs around with us. If i avoid him i avoid my friend too. also you don't always get to pick who comes to parties you go to.

I just ignore them... I don't care what they say and I don't say anything to them... it is that easy.

When someone's enough of a detriment to your enjoyment of the forums, blocking is perfectly reasonable, imo.

I only had like 5 people on my buddy list and that was on the old Forums, TsukiYume, Idun, Kenshinsanzero, Timecode, and Fender. Since the new site I haven't bothered doing it again.

No one is on my ignore list. It'd take a lot for me to have to actually despise someone here. No one has reached that point...yet.

Regarding the topic at hand, I must convey the following: even though blocking somebody who you just cannot and will never stand and is always insulting or displeasing, like Dreamless or UO Duck, it is not groundless to say that everybody contributes to the forum on their own way and If i were to block somebody, that person might singlehandledly change a boring thread into an interesting one, or provide helpful insight on varied matters in relation to the thread. This is seen to happen with Dreamless, and even though I find him to be utterly repulsing, when he is not being an complete asshole, he is certainly providing interesting posts. UO Duck not so much, but why use the feature if I can just ignore posts by my own.

When people are blocked, you can still hit "view post" if you're curious. So if a thread is becoming more interesting and you can't see why, well, there you go. Problem solved. I occasionally do it.

And regarding your comment Phakiel, if someone is saying something interesting people here usually use quotes, so I rarely miss out.

On topic: I blocked Kensei once, but that lasted all two days. He's a crazy commie who never once backed up his populist rhetoric with facts, but his side comments made me giggle. There are some cats on here who if I blocked my experience wouldn't change at all because they offer nothing to the discussion, but blocking them wouldn't changed that.

Blocking someone who actually posts would cause me to not have full knowledge of the discussion and points made in a thread, so no. If I disagree with someone I'd rather respond than just ignore their post, otherwise there wouldn't be much point to coming to a forum now, would there? Plus spammers and advertisers are usually banned pretty quick.

I never ignored anyone. I used to get pissed off on here, but it made the forums more interesting. I was more likely to view/post if I was in the middle of an argument. No one has pissed me off in a long time. And I've come to respect the would-be douchebags, so its a win win.
