View Full Version : The Xbox 360 is the home of RPGs?

How can it be that the Xbox is now the home for most RPGs these days gracing a console? It's a pretty big turn of events as compared to what last generation was offering. I know that most of the posters here didn't give a care to the Xbox because of it's lack of RPGs but now it has a good handful of them.

How do you feel about the Xbox being home to most of the current and future RPGs? Did you buy a PS3 with the notion that it would continue to dominate as the place for RPGs?

Well, I own a 360, so I'm quite happy with this turn of events.

Of course I own a PS3 as well, so I'm set either way.

Hmm, but the Wii seems to be really slow at this point for RPGs. I can only think of Opoona, the Dragon Quest: Swords game and Fire Emblem for it thus far. Not even sure about the games that are suppose to be on deck in the future.

The 360 already has Mass Effect, Eternal Sonata (PS3 as well), Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon and something I can't think of right now.

Operation Darkness, Spectral Forces 3, Mass Effect 2 and 3, Infinite Undiscovery, Star Ocean 4 and others are all on deck for the 360 in the future. Surprising, but really cool to see.

What happened, most likely, is that the Xbox just shot up in popularity with the release of the Xbox 360, thus the demand for games from the superior genre was created. ^_^

I'm just happy to see more RPGs period. Now if I could just find the time and cash to play them all!

There's another (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_Crystal_Chronicles:_The_Crystal_Bear ers) Crystal Chronicles game coming to the Wii though. And I'm not sure if people see Monster Hunter as an RPG, but the next main installment of that series is coming.

On the rogue-like side there's Chocobo's Dungeon and Shiren 3, the latter of which may not even make it here.

Finally there's Animal Crossing, who knows if you guys count that, though.

Yeah, I was thinking there was a new CC game for the Wii, but I wasn't too sure.

Before I scrolled up I thought you were talking about teh Chrono...

=/

Shot through the heart.

I would like the 360 if they actually made it work. Every time a new interesting game comes out and I think "Hmm, maybe I should buy a 360" I bump into a brand new "My 360 got RoDed" or "My 360 wont read discs" or "My 360 scratched my discs" or "Sir, you are not supposed to make the girls shove a bottle up their vagina"

Totally turns me off.

I would have thought you'd be into that sort of thing.

I'd have to agree that out of the consoles, my 360 has seen its share of RPGs, while the Wii only has Zelda, Fire Emblem and Dragon Quest as of right now. I don't own a PS3 but I haven't heard too much about them recently anyway. The DS is killing in the RPG department IMO.

Squenix will be releasing some 360 games. I think the ridiculously named Infinite Unidscovery is a 360 exclusive and most games are landing first on 360 and then on ps3 like Eternal Sonata which seemed like a very intriguing rpg.

Its probably because developers havent still tackled the PS3 as hard as the 360. Microsoft did had a full year window of opportunity to sell its stupid clitchy box but in eventually, the ps3 will be just like the ps2 this past generation and in a couple years Microsfot will have to suck its own balls and maybe, just maybe, they will finally make a console that doesnt break out.

What the **** is that thing anyway, back in the day every single console you would buy worked. It simply did. I never heard of many people saying "OMG my Snes totally cant read carts now, its ****ed" or for the n64, psx, dreamcast, ps2 and so on. People should stop supporting Microsoft, if they cant make a quality console then GTFO.

Its cute when you have tech support, even though conumerist/gizmodo stories of bad experiences with Microsoft support are abundant, and can send your machine and get it repaired, but to me that doesnt fly. I need to get a plane ticket to go to the states and get my consoles fixed. That or go to one of the empirical technicians here.

Actually, the NES didn't work as it was intended. The reason everyone had to blow on their carts was because the card didn't always match up with the connector in the NES due to its little push-down loading contraption, so the saliva helped bridge the connection.

That was normal though and it didnt made the console completely useless like when a 360 breaks down.

What you should be looking for as rebuttal is when a console constantly and generally breaks down from use and that leaves many gamers without it for weeks or months, and that it is made by one of the main competitors in a particular period in gaming history.

Maybe you can nit pick some console made before the crash or look for some article about the Mark console failing.

Go doggie, I?ll wait.

My 360 is just a regular pro one (the one with the HDD whatever it was called), but we haven't had any problems with it, other than all the cables being so heavy it's unplugged half the time when we want to play it.

Oh wait Nickoten, i think i remember something about the first batch of ps2s failing on people. You can look into that for your rebuttal or wise ass comment.

MY 360 is an Elite one and was made in August of last year, I believe, so I am hoping it will stay Red Ring free. It has frozen a few times here and there, but my Wii has done that too, but other than that, they've both been solid. *knocks on wood*

Yeah, I wouldn't be too concerned about things like that happening every now and then. Besides, I know like three people who have a 360 and they've had zero problems... so I'm sure yours will be alright. You better hope so...

Damn, chill out. I'm not out researching ways to put you down, the NES was just one that came to my mind immediately because it was such a bitch to get working properly, and it's kind of ironic considering how well built Nintendo products tend to be. I guess it's because it was an NoA invention? Who knows.

I do agree, though. The PS2 was the start of my troubles with new hardware, but at least I could circumvent it with a hard drive. These new systems are considerably less friendly with this sort of thing - you have to worry about getting banned from PSN or XBox Live now. That, and I don't think the PS2's problems were anywhere near as widespread as the 360's. Between the 360's hardware problems and the PS3 being region free (Meaning Tatsunoko vs Capcom actually being possible for me with that one), my first choice for a second next-gen console has certainly shifted since a year or so ago.

I mean really, the price difference becomes much less apparent when you realize you've got to pay for Xbox Live and that the Premium's currently got half the HDD space of the lowest cost PS3. I mean I'm not really looking to commit to one just yet, but I refuse to buy a system that has a 33% failure rate.

Oh wait Nickoten, i think i remember something about the first batch of ps2s failing on people. You can look into that for your rebuttal or wise ass comment.

Okay, no need to be sensitive. The bad thing is I already brought this up, kind of proving your point, but at least it wasn't as part of an argument.

To be fair, the main problem most people have with the NES is easy to fix. When your 360 gets the red ring, you're usually ****ed (depending on what your error code is (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=717200)).

Hmm... This is good, I should be a ninja about this and get a 360.
