Boards of Canada - Music has the Right to Children

I've had this album as pirated mp3s for quite a while but the quality of the tracks were fairly inconsistent so I bought it off the Amazon Marketplace. This is the reissue featuring the additional track "Happy Cycling." While it did seem to stick out like a sore thumb in terms of track order, it's probably one of my favorite BoC tracks. Then you have to figure in other awesome tracks like "roygbiv", "Pete Standing Alone", and "Telephasic Workshop" and you have a great electronic album with beats that put most popular MCs and rap producers to shame (I'm looking at you Timbaland).

I'm trying to recreate my music into physical copies then convert them to FLAC so I have a digital and physical archive that's bit comparible. I still need to get something like a Cowon S9 or D3 so I can just play FLAC files without transcoding.

The staying power of many 80's rap/hip-hop bands resided in the power of sampling. While many may denounce sampling as a poor means of creating music because it's not unique or original, other may celebrate the sound produced by rearranging the different tracks as well as the introduction of the vocal stylings of the MCs. Ad Rock, MCA, and Mike D go from chilling on the beaches at club med to staring down the barrel of a gun (son of a gun son of a bitch) all the while refining and perfecting the sampling culture in the genre.

Now one can't talk sampling without mentioning another album released a decade later.

Note: I own the 2-CD deluxe edition. I think it's worth the extra couple bucks if you can get your hands on it.

While the beasties mastered the sample in the 80's. DJ shadow one upped the beasties by making the entire album out of samples where his only contributions were occasional instances of him using a drum machine (with samples in the background). From Bjork to Metallica and the Beasties themselves, Endtroducing is an epic hip-hop/electronic album that will outlive anything else DJ Shadow will produce, sadly.

This is actually the first Sunn 0))) album I've bought, despite recommendations from Kyle in the past. I did have a "copy" of Altar from Sunn 0))) and Boris but I lost it and never really got it back. I actually like buying CDs over MP3s because it's probably the closest medium to the studio recording with maybe a $2 premium over album downloads. I also like converting my CDs to FLAC and playing them on my Cowon S9.
