So the expansion for this game is out very soon, and I finally decided to get the original game. I always had an interest in it, but never bothered to pick it up until a few days ago. Right away in the game, the game is fuckall hard because you're not given very good armor and just a crappy pistol for a weapon. After you go through the begining fight, you should be PRETTY good for a while.

It's about an alternate reality univerise in Chernobyl where after the explosion in 1986, there was another explosion in 2006 which made things even worse.

It's mostly a FPS game with RPG elements (mainly equiping different armor and weapons and such). It's a very good game, even though the guns are inaccurate as hell.

Anybody else play this game?

I bought and played through some of the original game as well. It is in fact one of the only FPS games I never beat, mainly because it's incredible lack of focus. I can only wonder aimlessly through a barren nuclear wasteland so many times and succumb to radiation poisoning and/or nuclear storms before I get fed up up and uninterested.

Really? I ask because the game was actually fairly linear with a set of not particularly large areas that one progresses through in order. It really isn't a wander around a huge open area with no focus game. Unless you manage to completely miss the trail of breadcrumbs I don't see how one could get lost in it as such.

Obviously I did play the game. I liked the depth offered in the range of weapons that at least try to be vaguely realistic. The encumbrance was nice. That might sound odd but it's always been a bit of a suspension of disbelief smasher when a character lugs around a hundred pounds of guns. On the other hand it was a little disappointing how the game wasn't nearly as large or deep as originally advertised. Plus the weapon accuracy issue did annoy me to no end.

On the whole it was a blast. How could running around the Stalker inspired landscape with cool Russian guns be anything but cool?

Linear? Really? STALKER is to CoD4 as Oblivion is to Final Fantasy. I never knew what missions were optional side-quests and which were imperative to finishing the story. And no, the landscape wasn't completely wide open, but I always stumbled across the areas that were off-limits to me unless I spent additional time finding artifacts capable of absorbing all the ass-raping radiation.

I'm certainly not calling it a bad game with, but just one I had little luck with.

It looks fun after checking it out when Joe and Blue were talking about it in the chat one night. The movie looks interesting as well.

I thought it was pretty easy to tell the difference between them because on your PDA the optional quests will tell you that you have so many hours left to complete it, while the main quest didn't have a time limit.

Stop owning me, God dammit. I'll kick you in your swedo-balls.

I just didn't care much for STALKER. :|

it's amazing. it's the most erie game i've ever played... notably the first two labs and chernobyl itself. make sure you get the 1.0006 patch. control T will get you a special menu.

clear sky sucked. it could've been good, but it wasn't. the enemies will take 10 shots to the head and not die. the pseudogiant is almost immortal as are the geists.

the only things from clear sky that should be kept are the mods and the more difficult to find artifacts... and the repair ability.

Just posting a friendly reminder that Stalker is 5 dollars on steam this weekend.
