With the release of Megaman 9 I thought this would be a nice opportunity to discuss the games we love in the series and the not so great ones.

I personally still love Megaman II. I think it was the best game in the series by far. The music is perfect and one of the best gaming soundtracks on the NES and possibly ever. There is a perfect blend of action, great bosses and challenge. I would recommend the game to any one for sure.

Megaman III is pretty good as well but I feel that was when we started to see more odd bosses that didn't feel right and mixed up the balance a little. Overall though it's a pretty fantastic game.

When the Battle Network series first started out it, it was a nice fresh take on the Megaman concept and played great on the GBA. Plus it was the first "RPG" on the system. It was a neat way to bringing Megaman to a more modern world and made him interesting again.

Lastly, Megaman X. The X series started off with a bang and was just awesome from start to finish. Capcom had a great mix of bosses that all felt right and fantastic music. I was so impressed by the graphics, creative use of weapons, sliding and wall kicking made it a great SNES game. Too bad that I felt bored of the series even as soon as Megaman X2.

And we come to Megaman 9. Latest entry and a good one. Capcom took a lot of the designs from the first 3 games and seemed to mesh them well into 9. Highly recommended as a download for those of you who haven't tried it yet.

The X series was cool, but I have only played the first three.
The first three are all that matter.

Actually 4 aint that bad. That last one, i think either X7 o X8 sucked big time, i am talking about the one where they mixed 3D with 2D. horrible game man.

Yeah 4 wasn't that bad, but you could live without it.

I think both X7 and X8 were in that pseudo 2D and 3D world. Didn't they have some reject boss like Spin Onion or some garbage like that. Just stupid.

I forgot about Megaman X Command Mission. Not a bad RPG and attempt to breath some life into the X series. Worth checking out because it should be inexpensive.

I believe x7 was the least liked in the whole megaman world, period. X8 answered back with 2d but still had some 3d in one of the stages. My only problem with x7-8 was that it was too easy. Too bad I can't say I hate any megaman game.As long as the story remains faithful and connected to eachother (megaman-x-zero-ZX series) with great music which hasn't failed yet, then I'm sold.

Megaman 9's one of them and I wish it was a little more difficult. Good thing capcom says that 9 won't be the last. The x-series will contiue as well.

I've only ever played the NES games, and I currently own Megaman 1 and 2. They're great games for those Saturday nights when there's nowhere to go and nothing to do except play "pass the controller". The second game is the best and all the of the NES games have excellent scores. There's actually a band here that's dedicated completely to Megaman music from the first three games. That's how much some people like the music...

I still haven't purchased Megaman 9. Looking forward to doing so someday though.

I loved Megaman 8 on the PS1. 9 is a step back graphically, but I guess they're going for the nostalgia factor.

Mega Men X1-X4 were pretty good as well. Have the Mega Man X Collection on Gamecube, but only played those 4. Started X6 but it was a piece of shit.

At first glance, this 9th installment is freakin' hard, though. I downloaded the demo off of PSN earlier today and I am dying on the pit in the forest area...like 15 seconds in...every time.

I guess I just have to play around on it some more. I use to have reflexes. Stupid RPGs.

Likewise. I had an absolute blast playing that game. Unfortunately its the only Megaman game I ever got into.

I am a little curious about 9 but I dont think I can handle the graphics. I can go back to the 16-bit era just fine but its hard for me to deal with playing nes games at this point. There are a few exceptions like Super Mario 3 for example.

That's funny. I can stand NES graphics, but I can't stand the graphics in most earlier console games. Just last month I was hooked on Adventure Island, which I had downloaded off of Virtual Console, and annoyed everyone by playing it whenever I had company over... hehe. I always liked the way the original Megaman games looked too ... and Kirby. There were a lot of NES games that were just plain bad looking and all round terrible games, but there are so many gems as well.

Wow, you all don't like that MM 9 went for a formula that worked well in the past? That's too bad. Maybe MM 8 and later versions of the game had snazzy graphics and such but the heart of the series was always best on the NES with it's simplicity, challenge and quirkyness. You owe it to yourselves to check it out.

All it takes is instinct and timing amigo >=]. It took me a hot minute as well but it got easy afterwards.

Weee! I bought this game on the weekend. I didn't have a lot of time to play though, I beat Galaxy Man and then I was killed by an elephant in Concrete Man's level. I don't know if there's any strategic order to tackle the levels in this game, I'm just going the random route.

Ehehe.. So far the majority of people I know have beaten Galaxy Man first. I dunno, for me it was Splash Woman then Galaxy man..

Hey, I wanted to do Splash Woman next because ladies are novel. But, ooops, I clicked on Concrete Man and went with it... and died.

Not to rain on the parade or anything but I think that most rock music that takes video game music to mix just doesn't sound that appealing overall. Probably because I prefer the real deal a little more myself.

I followed Brian's route. Splash Woman has a pretty easy pattern to follow and so does Galaxy Man. I've only beaten those 2 and Concrete Man because I haven't had much time to play the game.

Still enjoying it when I do get a chance to pick it up though. Soundtrack is not too bad as a whole.

I've reached Wily's fortress, but I only finished one part and decided to take a break since I was tired from freight training Splash, Concrete, Hornet and Magma prior to starting.

They don't have a CD. They have a myspace though... you can search it because I don't know it off the top of my head :P I know the myspace for another video game cover band here though (that's right, this small city has TWO): http://www.myspace.com/nerdarmytheband.

Have you ever listened to the Advantage? They are some video game cover band from the US and they do a cover of one of the Dr. Wiley stages from Megaman 3. I like it. The mix could be better, but overall I enjoy their version of it. I'm a nerd that likes instrumental music though :)
