I've long since finished playing Relentless; a game I still feel is a must play or the next best thing to it. While playing that I also started and completed The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning on the Xbox. Just got the urge. Next I played through Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop on the Wii. Any game that lets me impale a zombie on a power auger and use it as a spinning flail of doom is made of win.

Currently I'm plugging away at Etrian Odyssey on the DS.

How is that game as a whole? I heard that the conversion wasn't too bad but not nearly as good as the original because of the smaller zombie count. I really loved the first one and the idea was perfect for an alternative to the RE series of zombies. Interested in seeing the next one.

Since I've played the Xbox 360 version all of about 10 minutes I can't really comment on it. The zombie onscreen count is down in the Wii version but there isn't really a shortage of zombies. I whacked about 6,500 during the course of my play through. The game uses aggressive respawning and that can get annoying; especially when they pop in.

Still, the game was a blast. The zombies are fun to kill, the missions are varied interesting, and the bosses are sufficiently over the top. An example of the latter is the insane grocer with the shopping cart of doom. The RE4 control scheme was a little stiff but it got the job done and wiimote aiming is certainly nice. I also got a kick out of the RE4 references such as the Red 9. Taken on its own I'd say it was a very fun game.

Cool Priest. I was just curious because I've played through the Xbox 360 game 4 times now and I still get a pretty good jaunt out of it. I just enjoy that the game lets you just run around and take down as many zombies as possible. Some of those psychopaths were pretty interesting. I liked the hunter family because they were so easy to track down and chase with knives and it was satisfying defeating them.

I've still only had a little bit of time to play Tales of Vesperia when ever I can. Still all over that game as it's one of the best RPGs I've played in a while that has really kept me entertained.

I remember them. I shot one with my rifle and used my one-handed chainsaw on the other two. It was positively cathartic.

I've just started working on Mass Effect again. I do like the game but it seems as though every time I try to play it something comes along and distracts me. Hopefully this time will be the charm.

Having to go back to the ship for IC kinda threw me off from loving it. I heard the backtracking issue was solved, BUT if you do all the sidequests, then honestly the backtracking issues were NOT solved. The battle system is really good though, Rush gauge beats the Fury gauge from SO3, and blindsides are great for extra damage, as well as experience (blue tile.)

I am at the last postgame dungeon, I got about halfway through, almost had the boss dead, then it summons 5 little minions that silence everyone and use Stone Rain. To say the least the tides had turned and I got my ass handed to me in a matter of seconds. The result was I lost about 30-40 levels with all 8 characters and 3 hours of my life since they hate to put save points in their extra dungeons.

I will most likely get back to SO4 after running through RE5 on pro mode, and beating Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume (end of chapter 4) and Suikoden Tierkreis (about 3 hours in.)

I'm hacking away at Fable II when ever I have a chance but time isn't being so kind to me except for weekends when I can usually dump a good 10 hours or more into a game. I also popped in Gears of War for the first time and it's alright. I'll pick it up again right after I'm done with Fable II.

I played it on the Xbox 360 and I loved it. Sure, there were a few trivialities that bugged me but nothing that dampened the enjoyment I got from it. I've been tempted to write up my thoughts on the game and post them. Anyway.

Replaying FF7 again. Its been about 2 or 3 years sense my last play through and I have a lot of down time right now so I figured it was time. I almost completed my last play through in one sitting aside from getting up to us the bathroom and such. I ended up falling asleep on disc 3 for 4 hours with the controller in my hands. After I woke up I finished the game so I like to think it was one sitting.

Anyway about a year ago I found the official guide online for cheap so I figured I should get it so the next time I played I could do all the side quests and everything. After flipping through Im amazed at how much shit there is to do on disc 3. There are side quests that Ive never even heard of. I dont know if Im going to have the patience to do everything but Im gonna try. Im almost on disc 3 so I will get to start messing around soon.

Just finished Afro Samurai and I can see why some people were mad that they bought it. The game is entirely too short (It can be finished in two days, one if you do nothing else.), and has no replay value. Only reason to play it again would be to unlock more achievements or beat it on the harder difficulty.

Going back to try Vampire Rain again, Tenchu (Wii) and Splinter Cell Double Agent. I'm back on my stealth games!

Haha Nice Sen. Actually the game is basically just you moving Mothra and Godzilla on that grid to the right hand side defeating those monsters along the way. The game is much easier then you might think. All you have to do is use Godzilla for most fights and have him crouch down and hit the other monster with your tail over and over. Once in a while you can use the atomic breath. Mothra is good against some of the smaller monsters as he can just bomb them with that wing attack.

Yeash I can't believe I remember that game still. I even beat it a long time ago.

Hah, I'm surprised somebody else is familiar with the game. I think it's much easier to play as Mothra since she can fly over obstacles and proceeding through stages isn't much of a hassle. Playing as Godzilla, however, takes a lot of patience since he has to deal with absolutely everything in his path. I think it kinda sucks that it's not as fun to play as him since I like Godzilla a lot more than Mothra, heh.

Anyway, I've been playing Castlevania: Symphony of the Night nonstop for the last two days. I haven't played it in about ten years, and I'm pleased to find that it's still a fantastic game.

Haha It's a pretty stiff game over all. I still enjoyed using Godzilla much more then Mothera. I forget that one purple monsters name (I think his first appearance is on the second world) who always falls backwards after a few hits. I thought that animation was so awesome a long time ago. I was wondering how that second game turned out. It seems neat but I'm not a big fan of Sci-fi style games for the most part so I have a little less interest in the second game. First one, despite it's flaws, is a beautiful blend of the RPG and puzzle genres.

I just hacked through RE 5 within a week. Good game, not quite as great as RE 4 but still awesome. I liked the driving sequence in the game particularly. Thankfully the last boss was a little more challenging then the last game though. Only thing I would change in the game would be an added co-op split screen play. I really wish I could just play with a friend on the same TV.

Then there was the moment when I discovered that said fat programmer (totally not a Jurassic Park ripoff) was more physically capable than my nigh superhuman character. Yeah.

I don't like it, actually. Well, not as much as I thought I would.

It's an action game. A good action game. Great, even. But I don't buy RE for the action, and because of that I'm feeling a bit conflicted. For me, and I might be a minority, it isn't a good RE game. It's a very good action game. I had the same problem with MGS4, also a great action game, although not really a "MGS" game. That's not to say I hate playing either MGS4 or RE5, just that they were too different from what I was expecting. Outside of their separate universes as standalone games I would have loved them, but to go into a game expecting something and not getting it tends to hit some chord with me (RE5 not being scary enough, MGS4 not being stealthy enough), and I end up not liking them.

Granted I am only just starting Act 4 of RE5. The game still has time to redeem itself.

Ya I can see where you're coming from, but the gameplay is tight and improved over RE 4. Though RE4 had some semblance of scariness, I could see Capcom turning towards a more action-style game than survival horror. Well maybe Darkside Chronicles will incorporate a more survival-like feel into the game.

I still haven't played MGS 4, and as a HUGE MSG fan I'm a little disappointed in myself, but I don't own a PS3, and probably won't until my 3 year Warranty expires on my X-Box and the red rings of death return.

I need to pick up a Wii so I can finish Metroid Prime 3. It's the only one of the trilogy games I haven't played through completely. My old room mate owned the Wii, so all I have is this useless disc!

Anyhow, I need to finish up Infinite Undiscovery. I'm on the last stage, but haven't drudged up enough care to play any further. I started losing interest when Edward stopped being a bastard. I also have to finish Star Ocean: The Last Hope. Which is absolutely terrible, by the way.

And lastly, I've been playing the Sith Edition of The Force Unleashed, and Dragon Age: Origins here and there.

From the parts you played how did it compare to the first two Prime games? I'm looking forward to it though I'll probably play some of the Wii games I get for Christmas before jumping to the third. The second has been awesome though I think I preferred the first.

It's been pretty good so far, but I've had some mixed feelings. The first few areas are pretty sweet, but the levels I stopped at felt like I was repeating levels from the first two games. The actual gameplay is pretty solid, but most of the puzzles are more of the same old. I wouldn't call it a disappointment, but I guess I was just hoping for more.

One things I enjoyed about 3, and this might sound a little vain, were the aesthetics of it. I used to play it on a projector with all the lights off, and it was always a fantastic experience, I think it's one of the only games in the Wii that exploits the console's technical potential to a very enjoyable and realistic scale.

I've actually been pretty put off by the graphics. Don't get me wrong. I love the character designs and the general architectural design, but after playing shooters like Halo 3, Gears of War, Call of Duty... etc. It had actually been so long since I played MP2, that by the time I got into MP3, my memory was vague enough that MP3 seemed to have WORSE graphics than both of the Gamecube games. However, after going back and playing them, I've seen that's not the case, but rather I've become accustomed to the high level of graphics on the X-Box 360.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing. I started out on the Suns' summer league team and then made it to their training camp and did well, but didn't make the team. Now I'm on San Antonio's D-League team averaging 20 points and 10 assists a game with an A ranking. Hopefully some NBA team will pick me up. :)

It is a little buggy, though.

I tried to get on with the Knicks. I was born in NY so they will always be my team even though they suck balls. I didnt make it. After a few games in the D League I got offered a 10 day trial with the Bobcats. The first game I came of the bench. After that Ive started almost every game. If I remember correctly Im averaging 17 points, 8 assists, 2 rebounds, 2 steals and an A+ average.

But here are the glitches Ive run into.

1. I was never offered a contract after my 10 day trial was up. So basically Im playing starting PG for free. From what Ive read I should have gotten a contract if they didnt let me go after the 10 days were up and I should have had other offers as well.

2. My Drill points arent resetting after each month and Ive read that there supposed to. So the only points Im getting to boost my stats are from the games themselves. Thats really slowing my progress down.

Let me know in a PM if you run into either of those problems.

3. This is more of a complaint then a glitch but I havent seen anyway to change game time. Its set to 5 minute quarters but the sim length is 12 so that really messes things up.

I really wish it wasnt glitchy like that because if it wasnt I would have bought the game just for that mode. Its really addictive but Im gonna wait for a patch because those issues are really getting to me. I just checked the nba2k download center and they said the PC patch was coming soon. They said that on november 18...

Well I only played it briefly this morning before work, so I only have first impressions. The gameplay is fast and simple. It's easy to chain attacks together and the mechanic of keeping your swords "fed" with souls to prevent them from breaking temporarily and switching between them on the fly in battle is interesting. There's only been a little story but that will obviously take a backseat to the gameplay. My only concern is the game feeling too "samey," but it seems like it'll be fun either way.

Goddamn region locks. You should also check it on Steam. If it is available there, it could be potentially cheaper.

(If not it goes on sale from time to time on Steam)

All things considered, Tropico 3 is very, very extremely fun. If you do like it I suggest you getting Tropico 1 and 2 (single pack, 6 or so bucks) on Gog. More of the same, but more portable (with less focus on roadbuilding, you do have to manage the suplly chain a lot. Tropico 2 is all about roads and supply chain and may be too overcomplex for its own good)

d2d also has daily deals besides that. Hearts of Iron 3 for 6 bucks and Civ IV complete for 20 (but that is not as good as Civ IV Complete for 10 earlier this year on Gamersgate and Steam)

In any case, smart of them not to do the sale in the middle of Summer like Steam did.

Edit: Tropico Reloaded is better acquired from gog.
Tropico 3 is not a sequential sequel. They all rock, even if Tropico 2 became much more of a supply chain management sim.
On the other hand, they lilkely are the same pack, pretty much. Gog makes sure that things run on modern systems

With PSX emulator you don't even need to mount it on an external virtual drive (and if you did you should use Daemon Tools)
Load ISO, direct it to your FFT image, done. No graphical niceties, but it works.

Also, a frontend for when you want to have several games ready
http://psxemulator.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=news&thread=1080

I use it for FFT and Vagrant Story (mainly because ePSXe just doesn't work on Win7 right. Otherwise I would use THAT for VS, it does look much better with filtered textures)

I remember there being a PSX emulator that focused on accuracy of emulation over performance and graphical improvements but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called. EDIT: I'm dumb, I think the one Luisfe linked to is it.

I think there was a SNES one with the same kind of goal, apparently it emulated the SNES sound rather well. I'm pretty sure ZSNES and SNES9x still suck in that regard.

Playing the demo and waiting for this to unlock
http://store.steampowered.com/app/70400/

It is the perfect blend of spergonaut bait and casual play (at least in the demo). Solid dungeon crawling. Play it with a controller.

In any case, try the free demo. It is great.

I have to stop right now though because I am gonna cook dinner and also I need to wake up early tomorrow. If I keep going i am gonna go to sleep like at 2.

Started up Alpha Protocol yesterday, and while initially I wanted to break the disc in half because of the awful combat, I've come to enjoy it, flaws and all. The RPG elements are great, and the story and characters, while generic, do feel as if they change based on your conversations and actions. I like that actions during missions affect subsequent missions. I'm playing with a stealth character, and I think if I were to go the Jack Bauer, action route, it wouldn't be half as fun, thanks to the really shitty gunplay and cover system. Seems like the game is really built for stealth combat.

Not sure how I feel about the dialogue choice system, though. A few times, the timer has come up so abruptly and disappeared so quickly that I didn't even have time to consider my response. Other times, I don't really know what I'm responding to. I like the idea, but I'm not too fond of being timed and only being able to select a tone, rather than a short line that's a better indication of what Thorton's going to say. Sometimes, he says things that make me think, "Really? That's supposed to be a suave response?" And you really don't get to control (or influence, more appropriately) enough dialogue--Thorton has too many pre-determined responses. I like it better in Mass Effect where every response is played-dictated. I'm waiting to see if, like Westridge says, getting someone to like or dislike you will both have advantages now and later on. I'm curious to see if the game lives up to its far-reaching aspirations.

I thought it was like 5 but i began to remember, I played it twice when I first got it in 99 until I lost my cd, then I bought the GH edition like in 2003 and had made a point to play it once a year every since then , which I did until 2008 so thats 7 or 8 times I think. Maybe 6, I still had an open game which I got as far as Shevat I think which was my last play until now.

Impulsebought Nation Red and got instantly disappointed.
Tried a couple more times with the freeplay mode instead of the missions and had a MUCH MUCH BETTER time. Tried online coop, and it is goddamn fun.

Attempted to try Local co-op, but couldn't get the controller to work properly. Now with a 360 pad emulator, it works WONDERFULLY, and I am enjoying it greatly. Preferred Shadowgrounds, but it is a whole different beast, great arena shooter.

Took a little while to warm up, but now that I "get it", I don't regret the 3.50 bucks it cost. Hooray, Halloween sale.

Black Ops mostly, but other than that, I just started Star Ocean 4. Initial impressions have been something like this:

OMG so shiny.
Hey, this voice acting is actually good, even if the dialog is pretty really cliche.
Battle system is cool, though the technical differences from SO3 will take some adjustment.
Oh god Reimi is hot.
Wait, crash landing, technological regression, jungle... this is starting out like SO3, what's going on here?
Hmm, game over in first dungeon from being over aggressive; yep, this is Star Ocean all right.

My bar is set really low for everything in SO4 that isn't directly related to the battle system, which, if it keeps this momentum similar to the way SO3 did, means this will be a really fun game with some kind of dumb story that won't merit close inspection.

Yes. That would blow away pretty much every other game ever made.

In any case, I can still hope for a bigger better awesome Alpha Protocol 2, since it is a Obsidian IP, just wouldn't be published by Sega. One can dream :D

I doubt Sega would ever want an Alpha Protocol 2. First one was a commercial bomb and Sega's current stance is "No thank you." Can't say I blame them with how fundamentally broken the game was.

Maybe a dedicated group of PC gamers will do the whole unofficial patch/restored content thing that breathed new life into games like Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines and Knights of the Old Republic 2.

Luisfe
12-06-2010, 01:04 AM
Sega won't publish it, but Obsidian could find another publisher.
If they decide to make one, that is.

Doesn't seem to me like AP needs a fanpatch all that much, unlike KOTOR2 and EVERY SINGLE TITLE TROIKA MADE. The only things that seem missing are a resolution for Sis's locket, and SIE's situation in the last mission. Other than that, every branching choice is really, really polished.

Too bad that can't be said about the gameplay itself, haha.

Best sub-10bux purchase of the year for me.

Also, fundamentally broken? How so? Besides pistols being MASSIVELY overpowered and smgs being shitty as all hell, the other two weapon types are actually kind of balanced, and due to specialization on at most 3 skills being the way to go, the game offers loads of replay value (not only in storyline). It is unpolished, rough and kind of bleh in gunplay, but that's not where the meat of the game is, at all.

As I've said in another thread, the enemy AI is laughable at best. There were times, for example, that I entered a room, crouched, with no alarms going at all, and as soon as I open the door, I'm being shot at almost immediately, sometimes by an enemy who was in a different room.. I mean, the AI in Alpha Protocol is just really bad. Broken. Fundamentally.

Also, the cover mechanic is terrible, as the system is very picky as to where you need to be in order to register the cover. I will find myself in cases where I should be able to duck into cover, but unable to because I'm not in the exact spot it wants me to be in. WTF is up with that, Felipe?

So... taking a break and going to go back to the streets of Stillwater in Saint's Row and relieve some anger and frustration... by running over pedestrians/rival gang members/anything in my path.

That and finishing off my Adept playthrough of ME2, with the odd play of FFXI.
