Why not start this one up again too, maybe a lovely mod can sticky it for us?

I got FF VII Crisis Core last week, and I must say, I love it! I am really enjoying Zach, as well as the villains, and especially getting more details on how Seph came to flip out, plus how Cloud got to be where/how he is too. The only thing I don't like is the missions, they get monotonous fast, and they are really just there to make the game seem longer than it really is.

World of Warcraft is taking up a great deal of time as I work on getting my hunter up to 70.

Mass Effect: Picked it up recently and am playing it whenever I can.

GTA IV: Just grabbed it this evening and plan to take it for a spin.

I'm also still playing WoW, but since my husband can't settle on one race/class, I don't think I'm ever going to get one to 70, 60 is the closest we've come before he switched up again.

I'm still going hard on Super Mario Galaxy. I've gotten just over 70 stars and looking for more action. Pretty enjoyable game and much better then I had anticipated.

I'm also playing Rondo of Swords (DS) on the side but it's really one of the more frustrating RPGs I've played in quite some time.

Mass Effect second play through was going good until my Wii and Mario arrived in the mail. I'm at Ilos again and close to the end.

Priest, how do are you finding Mass Effect thus far?

Final Fantasy XII. Terrible story, but pretty fun. And it's massive.

I got to the end of the game and started leveling and searching for the good stuff (without aid), but after accomplishing nothing I finally turned to the guide and realized I'd already screwed up several side quests. :( Oh well.

PS2 - Rogue Galaxy, KOFXI, SMT: P3

...yeah, I know dude, the way I am going I am probably end up playing it for an entire year, which is not that far behind as I got the game in september.

I just dont play much these days, I need to devote hours and hours to it, its not just picking up at playing it which is what I can afford right now. With P3, and most rpgs for that matter, 2 hours just isnt enough.

I get home at 7pm the earlies, i turn on the computer and check on stuff/have dinner until is 8 or 8:30, then its time for nip tuck reruns, then 10 and two hours left for me to go to bed, I just say **** it and browse for porn.

That or I go out drinking or something. I get from the 23rd until the 27th off for vacations so I hope i'll get my gaming on.

I might play some tonight, but i kinda missed the Gossip Girl episode this week because i went out drinking, and they broadcast it on sundays.

XOXO

I've stop playing P3 since January. Got really tired with the levelling and fusions. Will probably start back Tartarus Block 3 when I have more time to spare. Also, right now, my family occupied the tv most of the time in the evening. When I'm back home, without the tv, I can't PS2. By the time they are off from the tv, is 1030pm. So now is PSP all the way until they get bored with the drama series from 8-1030pm.

Lol, I dunno why I put Zach, I know it's spelled the other way.

I'm pretty close to the end I think, in a cave with a lab and a bunch of jail cells- Cave of Binding. I've only got around 42% of missions complete, I'm going to do that on a second play through I think. Maybe. Eventually. I was going to do them all this time around, but some how, the higher level I get, the tougher the missions have become. Probably due to my materia combos and such, I'm just now really starting to do fusions and such.

Raidou

You may reply thoughtfully, or post games currently being played. Prolonged discussion regarding one topic often times sways to babble. Thus, just please make sure the discussion is purely about games currently being played, or a post regarding such. I only emphasized because this is a sticky. Usually I'd not be so anal(And no, nobody is allowed to make a joke about that). ;)

So please, discuss... just with emphasis as well as with replies that have 0 spam quality(like random jokes, nothingness, etc.)

Thank you for being on topic thus far ~ Atlas

There isn't really anything I'm anticipating until Left4Dead so I've been basically hitting up the Steam weekend deals for fun. Currently, I'm doing a playthrough of The Movies. There are some cool aspects to the game. Though, in order to get the full use out of the game, you have to make custom scripts, which is its biggest draw and still the most mundane aspect of the game. Players have a choice of hundreds of different scenes but finding the right scene, lighting, set, stunts, etc can make creating a movie take at least an hour. Overall, it's basically Peter Molyneux response to the Sims with more strategy involved than simplying pointing guy to work, or bookshelf.

The other game I'm playing is Morrowind, but I'm too tired to talk about that.

Sorry for any confusion.

I've been playing GTA: San Andreas a lot lately. That game is so much fun. Even with the new one out(which I do want to get sooner or later), San Andreas will do until then. Flying the planes with the cheats is such an entertaining time-waster.

Persona 3 is one of the best rpgs for the ps2, its just too goddamn time consuming. At times I can be spending almost 5 straight hours in Tartarus either leveling up, getting money or trying to find those stupid treasure hands that not only run really freaking fast but disappear like 5 seconds after spotting you, that pisses me off. Sometimes not even switching to the bow and arrow helps because that thing is really hard to aim properly at that moment when you not only have to get close but careful so that the stupid shadow, who always have eyes behind their back, runs away.

I am close to 90 hours right now, november I think. I dont remember the exact date, i am just after the trip to Kyoto (i think it was Kyoto) with the hotel and the springs.

Well, I finished Crisis Core today. It was a really good game, I loved it, but the ending was sad. Not that I didn't expect it to be or anything, but it was really very moving. Now I'm looking forward to new game +, to see if I can finally finish 100% on quests and DMW. I got all the slots on the DMW, but I couldn't get Magic Pot, Cactuar, and Phoenix to show up in battle, so I didn't get it 100% completed. I only got around 50% of the missions complete too, but I plan to get all those on my next play through, as well as beat Minerva. I really just wanted to see the whole story first, now I can concentrate on completing everything else.

All things considered though, I could have picked a better day to beat a game with a sad ending, because today already sucked for me, I didn't need yet another thing making me cry.

Will the mission completion rate carried forward to New Game +? I don't use walkthrough, sorry for asking.

I think I saw Magic Pot. Magic Pot shows up in Tonberry third hunting mission. I was not able to kill it as it escaped. He will only show up once after the second turning.

I haven't loaded up my save yet, but from what I've read, missions completed don't carry over. Your levels, exp, money, items, materia, and DMW carries over I think. I'll check when I get back up, my brain hurts right now, had a rough night. So you have to do all the missions again, but from the beginning you'll be whatever lvl you were when you beat the game, which means most of them will be super easy.

Magic Pot asks for jump, fira, gravity,& assault twister, and you can re-do the tonberry missions until he shows up. My first time, my DMW hit and he ran off, so I had to hunt him down again. He did show up again in the same mission, I didn't have to abort and retry, just ran around til he popped up. You'll only get him on your DMW if you give it the attacks it asks for. After that if you find him, I think he gives you stuff for the right attacks.

Edited to add: Well I loaded up my save file just now. Your items and levels do carry over to new game +, and your DMW percentages carries over, but not the actual DMW characters/pictures. So what you have is a bunch of blank spots that are 100% complete, you have to reget the DMWs but don't have to watch all their scenes and get 100%. Also, the items that let you equip 4 accessories instead of 2 is gone, you have to get that again too. And the missions are all gone.

You don't kill it, you attack it with what it asks for, and it joins your DMW, and gives you stuff.

Sometimes they do that but most of the time they enhanced it. I remember getting really cool skills such as Distant Prayer and Mediarahan. BTW, if you are able to buy that really expensive demon which comes with the Penetrate skill from the Broker in one of the Kappa, get it immediately and start fusing every subsequent demon after that to make sure they have Penetrate. Is one skill you must have if you want to progress easier when you go deeper into the Kappas.

I'm the kind of guy that loves to shift and take time on games. Sometimes in one day, I'll get too into a game a go more than 7-10 hours without noticing. So I guess I'll post what I have played but hold off on for so long. :

-Persona 3+FES

-Suikoden 1 - Just started the series. I have the rest but like the other games, I'll take my time with it. Too bad i have too many classes =/.

- Xenosaga 2-3 - I always tell myself that I'd beat part 2 cuz i got little to go but no luck ;p.

- Metal Gear Solid 4 - I'll eventually pick a day when I'll play the whole game in one day. It took a friend of mine 2 days so why the hell not.

- Odin Sphere - Got this recently, went 5 hours into it. Great game.

- Ar Tonelico - sealed and haven't played yet.

- Dragon Quest 8 - gotten far in it but hadn't the time once again.

Sadly the list of incomplete games go on.

Now here are the games I really play most of the time :

Arcana Hearts
Guilty Gear Accent Core PLUS
The King of Fighters XI
Marvel vs Capcom 2
Power Stone 2
Neo Geo Battle Coliseum
SF3: Third Strike.

Only when I have my friends around we play this. Out of all of them, we lean more into Marvel vs Capcom 2.

Cyrus, keep the Mass Effect posted up on here. I really enjoyed that game a lot and I know that Zeal did as well. Serge is the only other person here I'm aware of that also liked it. Priest4hire was dabbling into the realm of ME at one point, be he never posted his thoughts on the game.

I've particularly choosen to spend time with Losy Odyssey. Not bad, but it feels like the game wasn't developed really well. The battle system is a little weak, the graphics are unbuffed and the characters aren't original. That on top of terrible voice acting and you have a game that was highly anticipated, but a little short of being great. Yet, I'm finding the experience enjoyable despite all those complaints.

The only possible way I'm going to buy The Force Unleashed is if it's better than Jedi Outcast II. We shall see....

I can't say I've ever played Jedi Outcast II, but I can assume it was a lot better then Unleashed. While fun, interesting and worth a try, Unleashed is extremely repetitive. It's made up of go-stop-kill scenarios until the end of the level. So, like Mercenaries, I'd suggest a rental first, especially since the game is extremely short.

I got a hold of it friday night, started around maybe midnight for a few hours before heading to bed, and then I finished the rest of the game in portions the rest of the next day. So the game was done under 12 hours, unfortunately.

Poofy
09-16-2008, 03:32 PM
If you even had a remote interest in Force Unleashed, you owe it to yourself to give Jedi Outcast II a spin. It is the Jedi simulator that so many games after it have tried to mimic. After seeing Force Unleashed in motion, I have no doubt which is the better of the 2 games.

You can find it used for the original Xbox, GameCube, or the PC if you search hard enough.

Lost Odyssey will probably take a fair amount of time if you want to play through and do a lot of what the game has to offer. One high suggestion is to try and watch/read all of the dreams because they are really interesting stories and they are well written. My favorite part of the game for sure. Just have to suffer through playing with Cooke and Mack, who just slowed the game to a crawl after their initial story point.

Cyrus, I'd recommend Crackdown. I'm sure it's a pretty cheap game to pick up now and I had a blast with it. It has a co-op feature if you have a friend and you can blast around the city as a police officer who is allowed to bend the rules to take down criminals. It's like GTA, but I found the concept more interesting and fun. Plus co-op is just a great idea.

I decided to start a new game with Final Fantasy: A2. Until Chrono Trigger DS comes out, I am just killing time with A2. I gave up on Dragon Quest and Disgaea for the DS. Bored me to death, and I could just not get the hang of Disgaea. It annoyed the hell out of me.

What about Disgaea annoyed you exactly? I know it may be a bit confusing to newcomers, and I believe I can help you with any problems that may be ailing you.

Got Mirror's Edge, and finished it within a day. Roughly took the same amount of time it took me to finish World at War [7hours]. I enjoyed it a lot, though I like me some good puzzle-esque games. Unfortunately, DICE didn't learn from Assassin's Creed that it's not okay to make a mediocre ending because it's part of a trilogy.

Just got done playing some Call of Duty: World at War multi. After a handful of games, it ended up being just some guy and my self. He just joined the server as my friend was leaving. I ended up using a bolt action rifle without a scope because I'm still working on unlocking it. Anyways, the ending result was him rage-quitting after I killed him seven times without dieing. It was funny.

It's planned to be yet they have stated that they have no intention of giving us any idea when the next game will acutally be released at all. One thing that makes Assassin's Creed interesting is that perhaps (no confirmation on this) the next 2 games can be set in different time periods since the game is set in the Animus. Which could work out well, I think anyways.

I haven't had much time for games but I'm working hard to finish Shining Force II for the bazillionth time.

Yeah I kind of figured that. Im kind of wondering how they are going to pull that off. My guess is that its going to end up playing like a 3rd person Mirrors Edge. Its going to end up similar in any case. I think there is only so much you can do if the game ends up taking place in a modern city.

Anyway In currently playing Fallout 3. Its pretty cool but I havent played it long enough to pass judgment. All I can really say it that so far it hasnt wowed me the same way Oblivion did.

What's your impressions of R2?
It's a satisfying first person shooter, but doesn't live up to the first one. Has hints of some great ideas that aren't fully explored. It also replaces some elements from the first game that didn't need to be changed with some that aren't quite as effective. But despite those drawbacks, I'd say it had some of the most memorable video game moments of this entire year for me. Emerging from the underground to behold San Francisco at the mercy of Chimeran attack is a sight to behold; such a beautifully rendered vision of destruction. Multiplayer is what you'd expect, but the cooperative mode is a real highlight. Comparisons to a first person shooter World of Warcraft are not that far fetched. If you've got some friends to play with, it's definitely a pretty good time. Overall the game is worth playing, just don't expect it to blow your mind.

Anyway, I'm currently playing the new Prince of Persia.

It's pretty good. I'm definitely enjoying it, but it's really hard to compare to last gen's Sands of Time trilogy because it's so different. Time manipulation is a gimmick that's so hard to not miss, but this game's method of platforming (definitely the focus here) still works out quite well, and when you get into a groove, it's quite satisfying. All that running and jumping and swinging looks very smooth and real too, as is expected from Ubisoft Montreal, who are unmatched in making impossible human movement seem possible.

Combat takes a back seat to exploration, with battles being few and far between and always one on one. It's a basic combo formula, but shown in a cinematic way, so they're cool to watch as you play. You can't die, though. The Prince's new friend Elika will always save him at the last second. It kills the challenge, but it's neat from a design standpoint. When platforming, she will always bring you right back to the last sheet of solid ground you touched, eliminating load times completely. There's no fear of dying, but there's no fear of waiting either (which can sometimes be worse, heh). Elika basically replaces the time powers as this game's gimmick, but as an actual character, she's has more of a presence than a magical dagger, and her interactions with the Prince are great. Their relationship, along with the storybook atmosphere created by the game's unique look, give the game a lot of charm.

Visually, the game has some majestic imagery and is certainly a great effort in cell-shading, but I'm confident that this game could have been made two or three years ago. I bet Ubisoft Montreal could have pushed last generation consoles to work with these graphics. Overall, I'm liking the game, but I don't think I'm going to remember it as one of the best games this year.

How's the combat? It looks fluid as hell but I imagine that's because of gimmicky real-time button presses or something.
It works in the same way that most combo systems do, with each face button representing a different type of attack. It's because of how pretty the attacks look and how the camera always finds a method of showing the battle in a cinematic way that makes them look as fluid as they are. But actually pulling off combos and fighting in general is no different than any other game that uses a combo system. All that's really required for a flashy string of attacks is the hitting of different buttons. If you hit the sword button over and over, it's not as interesting to watch. You just need to mix it up. You can run into quick-time events in the middle of a fight, but that's only if you let the enemy gain the upper hand. But if you're no good at those, there's really nothing to worry about, since if you screw it up and the foe seems like they're about to kill you, Elika pops in an saves you. The combat is pretty fun and looks great, but it's not the main focus of the game. I can sometimes go 45 minutes to an hour without fighting anything.

I take this back. Last gen's consoles probably couldn't have produced the visuals this game has, but I don't get the impression that the game's look really pushes the current hardware too hard.

So I played through Resident Evil 2 four times, and have now moved on to the Resident Evil remake on the GameCube. I've only played for a few hours, but I can already tell that, as far as the "classic" RE games are concerned, it's not as good as the second or third game. It certainly looks good (very good, in fact), but this time the backtracking is much more monotonous because rooms/item boxes/typewriters are much more rare and spread out, and that gets to be really annoying. The zombies are also more of a chore to kill than in previous games since most come back to life regardless of the amount of bullets wasted on them. Often times it requires pouring kerosene on them, and then lighting them on fire to permanently dispose of them. That's a little too much work for a game's most common enemy. It's still a good game, but I doubt I'll look back at it as one of my favorites in the Resident Evil series.

There are something in the game that I don't like ( more often then not the sword strokes are so sensitive and miss or swing by accident), but overall I am enjoying the game. Worth checking out if you've got the Wii and need an RPG fix.

Yeah, it's not really Oblivion. It's LIKE Oblivion, but there are so many differences. There aren't really any enjoyable settings, but at least unlike Oblivion there aren't only three types of dungeon. The difficulty kind of goes away eventually, but a lot of the game is trying to figure out how to ration your shit. Other than the skill system, it really isn't that similar. S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Stats really don't have that much importance either, so I hope you didn't use that perk as often as I did (I ended up using it 7 times). Would have much rather had another skill at 100.

Killzone 2 demo: Great game. It's just the lack of innovation (besides the wall clinging mechanism) really hurts the game from standing out from the rest of the FPS games. I guess this game is all about the graphics if nothing else.

RE5 demo (PS3): I think it's far too much like RE4. That's not a bad thing really, but it basically goes to show how ahead of it's time RE4 was, and not how special RE5 will be.
