Who else is playing?
At the beginning of chapter 5 so far. Battle mechanics are pretty fun, but you can't exactly grind in this game...unless you wanna take hours just getting 10 exp. since exp. drops each level you gain, that is my only gripe so far. But telling the cast mean stuff...priceless.

I haven't gotten it yet but I want it pretty badly. I'm going to try and order the game on Monday if possibly. Along with Dragon Quest IV and Rhapsody for the DS.

Just Sushi???
I'm right at the end on the last chapter. This game is good, but not amazing, yet it has some replay value due to being short and having many different skills and characters to experiment around with. You can learn them all, but its better to find out the good ones with your offensive characters and just concentrate on them, and I know what party members you're going to use for combo skills.

I'm a little surprised as well at the low turn out in this thread. I thought there were quite a few people anticipating the game. I finally got around to ordering it today so I'll probably get it in my hands some time next week.

Just saw it.
I have almost completed FFTA2. . . I think, so that leaves me with DQ4 and Disgaea. I looked at a few previews/reviews/media coverage on Sonic Chronicles, and it really just does not look like my type of game, but hey, I could always give it a shot. I saw mostly positive things so far, but then again, I have not checked in a while.
I may pick up Rhapsody in the future when I can find a cheaper copy. Not really wanting this game badly.

Have they sped up the battles since the trailers? It looked like encounters would take around ten minutes each from teh last one I saw.

Battles are pretty quick. If you pick to use a pow attack, then you have to hit targets and follow patterns in times frames with your stylus and that doesn't go at Sonic speed, but the results usually do. For the most part regular attacks get dished out fairly fast.
I might get this. I'm debating between Sonic, Disgaea and FFIV. I already have FF Chronicles and FFII for the SNES, though.

I'm not a Disgaea fan, so I'm bias when I say Sonic or FFIV. More towards FFIV.

Well I finally cracked into Sonic and it's alright. I had to return Rhapsody because of the glitch so I started this instead. Overall impressions after the first chapter are a little mixed. I think the story is interesting and the graphics are great. The music fits the game as do the sounds baring one exception. Anytime you close a screen there is an odd bleep sound that it's totally out of place and sounds like a glitch almost.
My biggest gripe with the game though is the lack of directional pad use on the map screen. I would have prefered that they allowed use of both that and the stylus for movement. It's tough to stand on a crammed subway and play the game.
Overall it's worth checking out if you like Sonic in the least or Bioware games. Just be mindful that the story is in the Sonic Universe so you are stuck talking to crap characters like Big and Cream.
So is there any speed in the game? From the footage I saw, that crucial Sonic the Hedgehog element didn't seem to be present ... at all. That doesn't seem right at all.
I also don't care for any of the characters they've introduced in that universe since 1999. You're right, Sushi, characters like Big and Cream are crap. Knuckles was the last great character to be added into the Sonic world, though Nack the Weasel wasn't too bad. And newer villains like Chaos and Shadow were downright awful, especially Shadow. I still can't believe he starred in his own game. The only real evil hedgehog was Metal Sonic. Are there any older characters in the game? Or are they all the crappy new ones?

They are all the crappy new ones Sen. You better believe that the stupid Robot character from Sonic Adventure is in it, Shadow, Cream, Big, and Rouge too. There is one other slot for a character that I'm not sure of to fit in but it's probably someone who just sucks.
One of my biggest problems with the game is that it feels far too much like Bioware took the imprint of the Mario RPG games and just tried to duplicate it into the Sonic world and make it accessible to a broad audience. Having Robotnik join your team just reeks of the Mario/Bowser team up (especially when the plot line is almost identical). The other problem is the lame battle system. I've really had a tough time slogging through the game despite it's relative short length.
I had such high hopes for this game and the more I play it, the worse the game gets with each passing minute I spend on it. I could keep going on with the numerous problems with the game. Admittedly, I do like some of the environments that the game has employed and Bioware did nobely try to make a great RPG with Sonic. If they can't do it, it seems as though no one possibly can.

Sonic. . . should just stop. Unless Sega puts out new updated 2D games like of the old, I quit.

I got a copy, it is not half bad. The battle system is fun, and it is in general a rather enjoyable game.
